These Top-Up machines are quite common, often in-front of 7-11 shops. Although I do live rural, and I bet they are only in Thai language.

The couple of places I use regular, well I thought they just charged like a BB barfine of around 300 baht. I shall double check that. I think 750 baht as more than I would expect... but or course I would be expecting to pay the girl.

Well I must admit to having heard that too, mainly in the USA. But I stand by the fact that one can hardly relate ones brought up in Western countries to those flying straight in from India and entering GGBs in groups of 6-12 persons. It took MM above to make me realise I was talking to the same guy researching a 2000-3000 baht/month room, and I now feel like keeping quiet.

The real point is how he is extending the validity of his credit... so that the money and number is available to him for his next trip. AIS has become 'tighter' in that respect. One I use is Mao 30 Baht get 30 days validity and free call 30 minutes within 5 days, useful when I know I will be making a longish local call as the rate 1b/minute is good and my validity gets extended 30 days. Ordered via above web page or using some *500 code. Soon I may switch to 3G and I am expecting that to bump up my costs.

I top up directly from Internet Banking with Bangkok Bank. Yes there are certain packages now where a small top up will extend your validity by a month. To figure out what package you are on, what alternatives there are etc etc, with AIS go to.. https://aiseservice.ais.co.th/eServiceWeb/ Select English...top RHS. Enter your number and request a password.....enter the OTP you will receive as a SMS, in the field and click OK. AIS got a bit of stick a while back for reducing the validity of credit. True gives you a full year I believe. But there are ways to manage it as you have found out.

Absolutely he should not be talking of you.......'Indians' from the UK, Oz, USA etc are completely a different thing to the ones developing a bad rep here in Thailand.....those out from India itself. Go into any bar or Go-GO here and behave like an American and you will be fine, more than welcome etc etc. If some place tries to bar you, offer the doorman 100 baht, they will know pretty quick you are not an Indian. I won't even mention some of the stereotypes one gets for the 'Indians' coming here for holidays..... they do not apply to you.

I believe they were sea prawn, but whether caught or farmed I am unsure, they tasted good. Shrimp like this are 400-500 baht/kilo in the market.

Thanks.......but it seems a bit ironic to talk of punters sitting sipping draft for hours on end when the offer was 60 baht bottles. Wanker perves need something to look at too of course.

Yes I have been twice now. The first visit it was very reasonable, me and my lady, 3 plates and a large beer, just under 1000baht. The second visit included the shrimp dish and a steamed snapper and was double that. In the evenings I think it gets the Bangkok on-their-way-home crowd with their kids running around.... slightly preferable to the Chinese coach parties for the other customers if not the proprietors! I must say that on both visits (Sunday evening) the food was well cooked and very good..... problem is always whether the main chef is on duty or not. There is another new place if you turn left on 3240 and head down 100m or so, on the left well before the Sukhumvit lights. Two floor place and nice to sit upstairs. Food quite good but appetite suppressed by bored young male waiter picking his nasal cavity and inspecting his harvest!

All well and good... but there is always that very very slight chance and worry, that when you check in for your outward (to BKK) flight, and they see that your return is scheduled beyond the 30 days, and no visa is present in your passport, will they let you board??????

Further to my comment on prices. There is another new place opened on the railway line bypass rd. Heading North, about 200m beyond the water tower junction (Khaomaikaew Rd/3240) on your left. Large carpark...... named A. Aroy. Nicely laid out, mostly outdoor, everything obviously new, play area for kids. (Kids running around a slight distraction.) Nice crockery and the food very tasty and well presented....... The 5 jumbo shrimp were perfectly cooked and very tasty in a coconut milk sauce.... but didn't look very big on the large plate. 500+ baht for just that dish. Seafood is going up-market.

Once you get out of Pattaya, ie cross over Sukhumvit, (East Side) forget about public transport. If you insist, you might find a gang of motorcycle taxi guys grouping somewhere near where you live, or you have to keep a few phone numbers and they will come get you. Sadly that is where the cheaper rental accommodation is. Internet is available, pretty much everywhere....I have 3 ISPs in my area.

No point comparing prices to Darwin.... try buying a carport in London! The picture is a condo in Bang Saray isn't it? There will be A LOT of condos coming on-line in the next 12 months, what do you think that will do to rents and the resale market. I did a quick search and the only condo under a mil I saw was a studio of 28 sq metres. It is a rabbit hutch.
