Yes, I had to split into 2 lumps, to meet my bank's limitation, but a few days apart, £40,000.... each time. Not much issue when it arrived either.

I was pretty quick to defend the UK many years ago, when I first started working overseas. These days there hardly seems to be any point after a succession of poor politicians have failed to do so. I can still be pedantic though when I hear my fellow countrymen, or Europeans denigrating the USA. Normally they know little or near nothing of the place, while I have good memories of good people.

It sounds like you are sorted for the big bird home (that explains the cheep (sic) fare ).I check this site now and again.... Massic Travel. If I see a good fare come in I will also check the airlines website. I don't know why the European carriers don't promote themselves better here and offer good discounts.

Protection against credit card fraud perhaps.... it is very much a policy of the airline and explains why sometimes it is required, sometimes not. It can be quite stringent, such that if you buy a ticket for another person, you may be required to give that person a signed declaration. So it's to ensure that the credit card is yours and is valid. Many airlines reserve the right to do such checks. Keeps the airline a bit safe from chargebacks from stolen cards and the potential real owners of the cards.

I am in the market for a trip to Manchester about then, business class I hope. As you say not many specials about yet. I keep checking Ethiad, Qatar and Emirates. And ignoring Pakistan.

And with fewer flights under my belt than that in the last 5 years I say I have been asked for the card I booked with. Not every time, just some.

Since an exchange rate for $CAD Tchqs is listed on the Bangkok Bank and SCB web pages I believe you will be able to exchange them.

So we are all wrong and you are right... It is hard for me to say how much I need per month. Months vary a great deal. But 70k baht might be an average, not including flights and outings. Actually I use 100 Euro notes as they are worth more and the paper is softer.....

Hell no.... Although living here I do see a lot of examples of Thai stupidity, or what I try to interpret as 'lazy brains' or a refusal to apply oneself. Generally I am not far off an aircraft to have the same impression of other Nationalities though, and for the days I do not travel, I watch the BBC!
