  1. You can do all that and buy prepaid GPRS/Edge on say 1-2-Call... no need for 2 phones/SIMS as you just use the regular SIM.I just checked 30 hours 99 baht, 60 hrs 199 baht, 100 hrs 350. Going via their phone prompting is onerous though. Easy to set up both with my Samsung and Sony/Eric suites.
  2. What a crock......Firstly pulling out infront of motorcycles is purely the fault of the bus/ truck driver. If trucks/ busses have so many blind spots they are an unsafe vehicles and should not be on the road. Motorcycles do not like to hide at all.... in fact it is likely they would prefer to be seen, by these blind truck drivers. We are talking Thailand here and I reiterate, these bus/coach truck drivers give motorcycles little regard as they drive down little sois barely larger than their vehicle, and cross junctions without slowing or stopping. They drive on roads which are unsuitable and block junctions by occupying all lanes. I ride a motorcycle and am not under any misconception. I am the one who will be killed by the truck, the only injury a truck driver in LOS might sustain could be a twisted ankle as he runs away!
  3. Bali Hai was absolutely murder....... too many people. The stupidity of it all was to pemit the erection of stalls and allow vendors to park anyplace thereby creating dangerous bottlenecks... you know like the ones where people can get panicky and crushed. It took 45 minutes to get from Soi 15 to the pier, and 30 to come back after the display.. not so good this year. I saw tempers frayed ... note to rude Russians, shouting in Russian at Thais serves little purpose...... Similar attitudes like those you see in Songkran whereby some celebration is supposedly a permission to assault, a big fight started when some Brit brat sprayed string-foam 3 inches from the face of a big Indian guy... who gave him a superb right hook. Then mates all got involved... Happy New Year! I wish I had gone the other way, but the stalls on beach rd also made progress difficult when I came that way earlier. I heard that Wong Amat/ Naklua were easier and the view good. Next year, if crowd control is not considered more, someone could die. I also wondered if the pier was built to be loaded like that!
  4. Our very own.....Maggie Smith
  5. The Cafe New Orleans and Tequila Reef may suit you better. The Great American Rib Co.... Lunchtime, can't beat a Subway 1 footer. Not much of a McMuck/BK/ or KFC fan but variety is the spice of life.....
  6. How are the burgers.....?
  7. I fancied a good breakfast on NY Day, so rode over to the Canterbury Tales, it was after 10.30am . There were a couple of girls behind the counter but they weren't interested in doing breakfast for me. Went nearby to Crazy Daves, he still does the 75 baht cheap breakfast (bacon, a sausage, a few beans, 2 near raw eggs and a slice of fried bread, toast, jam tea/coffee/OJ). While I can't complain about the price, the snotty eggs, sour-faced staff, greasy plate, smokers nearby and people wandering about shirtless made it 'tacky'. As I left Canterbury Tales were operational.

  9. I wonder why bother going to Bangkok, if you plan on getting up so early. Or perhaps you never went to bed!
  10. That is hardly comparable to offering a taxi service is it now? There has been numerous discussions regarding legal/illegal insured or not taxi services and that is likely the point.
  11. Alfie (remake 2004)
  12. He asked first!
  13. I did, I am not and I am too!But definitely not is.... Josh Brolin
  14. Anybody taking bets....The railway line bypass went reasonably well, but that was built by the military. (Some of the junctions, like Khao Talo, are a disaster). The flyover and bypass to the motorway seemed to go quite well too. Condos seem to rise from the Ashes like unfurling ballerinas. But Thrappaya and Jomtiem 2nd Rd continue to frustrate, kill and ruin businesses, Sukhumvit is resurfaced then dug up again to return to a biker's menace. The bridges South of Laem Chabang still require detours, work appears not to progress, like the traffic. Six years, no way, maybe seven!
  15. Hang in there, it's the peak season, Christmas and New Year and MM runs a bar. Who is your email server by the way? I have heard of emails going astray, I think it was hotmail.
  16. Sean Penn
  17. Easy too..... Michael J Fox.... all 3!
  18. You may also notice the Thais lads are buying some of the bigger bikes. I believe the source of danger to me on my bike to be trucks and these huge coaches which give you little regard, and are in the habit of pulling out infront of motorbikes.
  19. Wow, first I heard of an Aeon machine issuing a charge. Since it is a Thailand imposed charge I would be surprised the location of the bank account would matter. I will be trying the one near BigC South next week.
  20. Yeah, 132 projects to be undertaken and be completed in 6 years...... that is a coincidence, hasn't the project to construct Thrappaya been going on that long? Perhaps a few more traffic deaths required.
  21. Well they did nearly six months ago..... They love eating CHEAP Thai food too!
  22. Boeing Aircraft do not have highly experienced pilots?
  23. Hmm, I thought that was a dead end for a minute........ Christopher Lloyd
  24. Whatever commission your UK bank charges on TCs... (eg 1.5% at Post Office) A local charge in Thailand of 33 baht/cheque, hence larger denominations work out better. A better exchange rate for TCs of about 30 satang/£1 over cash. It is hard to compare the exchange rate with ATM withdrawals unless you take notes but other than the local 150 baht charge, there is often a standing charge from your UK bank, and a further commission that gets hidden in a poorer exchange rate.
  25. Boy, could he have ripped into the band at The Wonderful Bar back then!
