Hotel Ibis Bangkok Nana from USD 25
jacko replied to bigdelta's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
That Nana Hotel is something else. I went there first time in the 80s! Back then it seemed a bit tatty, but everything was reasonable.... I quit using it when they started charging more for a beer in the coffee shop than over the road in a GO-GO. That cofee shop, spent a good afternoon in there once, girls sat all over the place, off up to the room.. back down to get another and a beer..... great way to kill time to an evening flight! Well overdue for the wreckers ball........ -
Well not using the Mobile Edge/GPRS in the Pattaya area. As I mentioned I found it better in Chiangmai and the North. My friends TGF seemed to think it was adequate on Pratumnak Hill. I found it to be an exercise in frustration just over Sukhumvit. Other than that I can only suggest you get up early........ Third Generation (CDMA?) is suppusoed to be available in a couple of places, I think it is Hutch...... As mentioned, I got ADSL and put a router put in the house!

Welcome back Arno....and don't be so negative.Farangs are showing them the way, specials on beer prices and reduced late barfines. When they see the farang bars tactics and results, they will do what they do so well...copy, bad economics be damned!

Club Misty's "Fight The Credit Crunch Campaign!"
jacko replied to PSP's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
You have to be good at mental arithmetic to determine how much anything costs....., at near 12,000 per US$ it can make your head spin. I didn't notice much P4P where I stayed but it was a quieter beach area. Some very attractive girls working around town though. -
Actually those from the South can be very good too......Penang......okay it's Malaysian....and Massaman are 2 of my favourites. Okay, I like them because they are fattened up with coconut milk.

Being at Bangkok would be a big plus! I have found it to be quite efficient when not occupied by red shirts. Now London Heathrow, pack a collapsable chair and a good book!

Yeah, that post a link feature seemed to be messing with me....

Most of the money exchanger kiosks are part of the major banks and use the rates supplied from head office. If you know exchange places that are independent and offer better rates, perhaps list a few.I look at the rates on offer, but no longer need to exchange cash, as I just send directly into a Thai bank account.

It's up to the OP to post but I was under the impression he is talking about a Non-Imm O multiple, which does require visa-runs every 90 days. Kolobos, I never had to supply a letter from a guarantor...
-
This is interesting. The number I used came out of the Samsung software, perhaps I would have had better luck with *99#.......As it was I also went with ADSL via TT&T Maxnet. It appears they have switched their type of ADSL modulation recently to a more modern 2+. This may require some routers to be reset, I had to reconfigure mine as I had previously locked it to ADSL (multi) to get faster connection time.

You can do either, but things run more comfortably and smooth with one of the visa run companies. A delux run, with a comfy minibus limited to 6-8 passengers, including visa costs, breakfast and dinner, about 2500 baht. http://www.pattayaone.net/ Click on 5 Star Visa Runs. You could make your own way there and do it yourself, but who do you turn to if things don't go smoothly.... as a loner, you might be a target for a bit of a squeeze. I often fly to Singapore or Penang for a few days break. Going to Cambodia is also an option, either fly Air Asia to Phnon Pehn, or go overland.

Does doing time for a Felony preclude one from getting a retirement visa
jacko replied to jackcorbett's topic in Expat Issues
What is to say they will? Generally the onus is on you and immigration just stamp everything. As stated, a retirement visa issued outside LOS, requires a police report, the conversion in LOS, at this time, does not. I believe even people arriving on tourist visas, can get it 'converted into a single NON-Imm O here, then obtain a retirement extension. I think what happens in Canada, is not relevant. -
What the banks post is pretty much it. http://www.scb.co.th/html/exchange/bk-txtexchange.htm http://www.bangkokbank.com/Bangkok+Bank/Pe...tes/default.htm

Well it seems quite obvious that for the airlines, it is more lucrative to sell a passenger 2 tickets rather than one, and let him break his journey. I frequently went from the Middle East to USA on BA, and wanted to break my journey in the UK....buying my own domestic ticket to visit family for a few days. I often hit the 24 hour rule and was told my ticket (Business Class) didn't permit this, when the ticket was issued... but a ticket that did, was much more expensive. Strangely enough, I could sometimes just change my onward leg from the UK, to a day or 2 later, when I landed in London.

Darn Nok Tang you are full of it! I agree that it would be unfair to post the girls pics without her knowledge, although while she was sticking her bum and lips out infront of a camera she should have thought about it! If her picture causes her to be caught out in a lie.... som nam nah!

Sounds good, if you have this Nokia Suite on the PC/Laptop. The speed limiter will not be the mobile/phone, more the ISP/network. I am guessing the 'bandwidth' allocated to support internet use, would be sacrificed to more lucrative uses, like phone calls during busy times. I found my location affected the speed, it worked quite well in some areas, but where I lived, East Pattaya, it really got bogged down, being useless in the evenings, and only good very early in the day.. In the end I put ADSL in the house.

No, I said the plan as I knew it was that Bangkok/ Sydney and Singapore flights would ultimately move to T3, not T5. I checked your date and T4 was still quoted.Let me know if you know different. I might just reconsider BA/Heathrow if my domestic and Bangkok flights both use T5, that would be easy. No, sod it, it's still BA and LHR, they would manage to make the experience miserable somehow.
-
Gary, you make it sound like Edge is obligatory, I don't think so. With my older mobile, I managed with GPRS, somewhat slower agreed. Also, as I roamed Thailand, I found Edge was not always available, but GPRS was present. My phone switched automatically. Otherwise all my experince matches yours, with a Samsung.

And a subsequent scan by other anti-virus software was unable to detect and clean this infection, or it basically locked you out? Why didn't your current protection not scan this prior to opening?
-
You did pick an expensive period flying over Easter. I double checked that the BA flights are still using T4, and they are. I thought there was a plan to move to an upgraded T3 some time this year.

Sorry, can't help with your particular problem. But when you have recovered from this hassle, perhaps you could post about the virus and how it got there, I am always interested to know how better to protect my computer. Good Luck....
