  1. I sometimes feel it is better to just stick to the places you know.. so many restaurants in town are poor, pretending they represent some region. Hit one last night after watching the Bond film, little Italian place on 2nd Rd. I just had a 'pasta pang'. They brought my pasta 10 minutes after my entree, when I mentioned this they told me Penne was not pasta!
  2. After a couple of dry days the rain is back.. but it is just an afternoon thing. It doesn't seem to stop these idiots walking about town shirtless. Always fun when Pattaya Klang turns into Pattaya Klong.
  3. Do you mean Cathay Pacific ? If so they have been around for donkeys years and have a very good reputation. Via Hong Kong so extra travelling time, but probably no more than via the Middle East. Known for good service only the oriental ladies can provide. Hong Kong a large efficient airport... good shopping.
  4. I used Mr Toom to the airport in October. The driver found the house and was slightly early. No problems, 1000 baht. On my return I have been using the airport taxi, after reading a lot of posts here putting down the service of the 2 Mr Ts! I also felt I could not guarrantee my arrival time, and hunting for someone in the hawking crowds with bleary eyes was always a worry. I thought it was only 200 baht more. But beware, on my arrival the lady would not tell me a fixed price to Pattaya... she now says 'have to ask driver'. She has likely been paid off. This is LOS! Haggled down from 1500
  5. It's not even a restaurant, just an open air place about 1km down Soi Siam CC, from Suk, left side, pass the 2 mosques and it is just after the subsequent 7-11 on the left. Little sign in German, Fleishmaster it says. No menu, it is what is available on the day. It is next door to a singing girl and karaoke place and before a Thai noodle place, a pond at the rear. As it is not far from where I live I sometimes visit when I need some unhealthy fried and over salty food. But I do enjoy his goulash...with chips which always amuses him.
  6. Sorry to be pedantic but if giving directions better get it right. That would be Phratamnak Rd.
  7. The best steak I ever had in Pattaya was at a little German place on the darkside, Soi Siam Country Club. The owner is a retired German butcher / restauranteer. He claims there is nothing wrong with Thai beef, it just needs to be hung and trimmed for enough time. I can't say I have ever had any steak elswhere in town that was anything special, Beefeater, Big Horn wherever. Best I ever had was at an Outbacks in Kansas City Mo.
  8. Thanks for that correction, I thought I saw something different on their advert!
  9. Joe, I think I recall from my travelling days that getting cash from my Amex Charge card was expensive, you would be charged interest from that day onward.... at usuary rates. Perhaps a cheque does not.
  10. This is also great infomation... another 'string to the bow'. Do you hapen to know whether this feature is available to the Amex credit card, or is is restricted to their original no-limit 'charge card'?
  11. Well good for you and well done. I can certainly appreciatiate not wanting to be cramped into a hot minivan for umpteen hours..... very uncivilised. I thought some of the visa run outfits were offering a package (flight + 1 night hotel) to Penang for about 14K. I have been out of Thailand for a couple of weeks and these situations change rapidly! I liked Vientienne, as a break from Pattaya. I just played 'Joe Tourist', and managed to find a bit of fun near the river... although ensuring the correct gender is a challenge.
  12. Not a scratch on it? The bloody window has fallen out! Or is that where you got out?
  13. A bit light in the sporran.
  14. Quick, grab a few unbroken ones before the truck comes.
  15. I just flew with China Airlines in Biz class, booked it through Gazelle travel. Manchester on KLM to Amsterdam..... It was a good flight, punctual and very nice Thai stewardesses. Sadly a couple of very drunk English yobs in front of me were making the girl's life hell. They weren't enhancing the flying experience for the other passengers around them either.
  16. Yes, they have one at the Oz Embassy once a year, whether they need it or not.
  17. I once deposited a UK cheque into my Bangkok Bank branch account. It took about 3 weeks to clear via the London branch and the costs were the same as an international 'telex' transfer. (In fact that appeared to be what the London branch did!) I concluded it wasn't a good way to transfer my money to Thailand. I have a relative deposit sterling cheques into my UK account and get at the money by international transfer or ATM card.
  18. Bite the bullet frosty and go to one of the visa run outifts... (Sportsman Soi 13... and Wetherspoons, soi Buakhao.....not sure whether Wetherspoons is still the HQ). They organise a run to Malaysia which is advertised on Sophon. Come back with a new tourist visa. I came to Thailand many years back with a triple entry tourist visa from the UK, got 8 months out of that.
  19. I like this option, and a delux trip at about 2400 baht is not bad compared to the 1900 baht for just 7 days extension. just remember to take proof of your trip out of Thailand with you.
  20. Not a valid Win32 application?
  21. If a guy has to keep his shirt on we wouldn't get to see all those lovely tattoos and know who he supports and how tough he is! Classless yes, but Mr tourist wants his rays methinks.... Compromise..... no bare breasts (and maybe smoking) at the bar. Sun goes down, shirts worn by all.......

    VIRGIN

Fuck, I am in the funnies section and being preached to about wearing a condom. Is there no refuge from the clergy....?
  23. I was smart 20 years ago, I don't believe I am now, and yet I can read this.....perhaps because it looks like most of the posts from the USA BMs.......
