i find that going from heathrow is the cheapest but by the time you factor in your travel from up north you may find Newcastle the better option

On my last trip I was going to Phuket, I flew with EVA to BkK and Bangkok air to HKT. At LHR I got EVA to check my bag through to HKT and then when you get to BKK you can use the through system to local flights where you can clear customs in this process. This all depends on which airline's you are using as they do not all allow check through, so you will have to clear customs in the normal way and collect your bag and then recheck in for the local flight. -

Also try the stags head, irish rovers, 3 som bar and also plenty more around the soi lk area -
Use your rates that you have obtained via the internet and contact www.westeasttravel.com . They offer a great service and price match or even beat your rate. Have used them for the past few years.

The Golf Club soi LK do. Also try the Irish Rovers also on soi lk and Witherspoons on soi Buckhoaw as they show a lot of sport. There is also a place in the Avenue but I forget the name.

Decent food that is great value for money. Not worried about big portions as I do not eat that much in LOS
