  1. As above all ATMs will spit out 20 notes per dip (If there's sufficient 1K notes in it - there almost invariably is - you can have 20K) There are a few (a very few) new machines that will give in excess of 20 notes per transaction If you're using a foreign (non Thai) card then you will be hamstrung by restrictive 'Daily Limits'. Cards drawing on Thai banks can (usually needs raising via call center from the basic amount) draw 200K per day though you have to pump all those 20K squirts out of the ATM (and if you're an SCB customer be ready for the security check phone call before you've
  2. For the more 'point n shoot' how to (you will have had the location and phones when you booked on line) Exit Customs Plough through the parasites who think your name is 'Taxi' Veer left Take the last escalator down As you exit it do a 180 right and the Bell Desk is on your left adjacent to Door 8

  5. Branch idiocy abounds with SCB Had a similar exercise in stupidity in their (then) new Naklua Branch, after two loops of the same circuitous argument I bailed, flipped a U-turn and back to the big second road Branch (with the car park) where conversely got the regal treatment, all sorted double quick and painless complete with complimentary umbrella! in the years since then the account has done exactly what it says on the box - flawlessly .

  9. Gow Lat Roasted chestnuts as said above (theyre much better however fresh, straight out of the great wok of hot grit they roast them in) An institution in Bangkok's China town where you buy them in kilo boxes and have to negotiate Yarowat Road with care so as not to get gassed or burned by the stalls cooking them .

  11. 35K is strong money Unless they are sorting out the papers for imaginary funds in Thai bank too of course In which case its about normal .
  12. As this thread seems set to do more laps than an Indie 500 The semantics about what is and what isn't bullion and what is OK and what isnt are all well and good. That is until Aspiring Vice Admiral Somdet of the Thai Customs Service claps eyes on it then as the 1K THB bills stack up in his avaricious little mind it will be what HE DECIDES to be right or wrong n'est pas and all your cutesy protestations ain't going to change that. (FFS Ive seen them seize and subsequently take payment of the alleged 'Tax' for what was decreed to be a 'commercial' amount of kiddies sweets (candies)!!!) W
  13. Coins or in fact standard western (99.9%) bullion is not the norm here in Thailand, and as such you will have to seek out a willing buyer. I'm not saying there arn't any but it will be leg work compared to Thai gold which is more like cash and accepted in the gold shops (which as pointed out earlier are just a little less prevalent than 7-11's ). As an aside, Thai gold being under the 99.9% interestingly circumvents many customs regulations elsewhere regarding bullion as it is classed as 'jewellery'. If you want a 'stash' in Thailand turn money to gold in country would be my advise
  14. A surprisingly outstanding meal can be had in a place you'd probably pass by without notice... Try the husband & wife operation 100 meters from the crest of Pratamnak hill on the left coming from Jomtien to Pattaya has a rotisserie of Gai Yang outside the tented seating. Seap Li Li .
  15. Sorta true Only if they are quartz (battery) ones, and then not always Automatics, well, unlikely unless your the owner of one of the few (semi luxury) brands that use unmodified stock movements But if your watch is a 'Sexton Blake' you will be very hard pressed getting a repair in the West .

  18. Dual SIM adapters are nothing new Unfortunately the phone they are put to is only geared for a solo SIM so there is always a degree of buggering about switching from one SIM to the other and of course both cannot be roaming simultaneously. .
  19. Sheeeit thats an expensive solution to a non existent problem Just buy yourself a full functioning 2, 3 or 4 SIM phone Heres my current one (4 SIM) cost me around 1K THB .
