I've noticed some are abbreviations of extremely long and unpronounceable names. Some mongers do the same if the girls have trouble with their name. My name is actually Ebenezer Tarquin Scrooge, but they couldn't pronounce it. I always have trouble calling some of them, Poo.

I know what you mean, but imho, it's not so relevent nowadays regarding the English premiership as it's almost a world league in popularity and that most home teams have few if any locals in them. I love watching how the most succesful teams seem to win, even in the last minute. It's physcology that the lesser teams manage to throw away victory , even if they are 2 goals up and have to score OGs to do it
