  1. As I mentioned previously, I am now looking to buy a condo - for my own use. I've done various sums and by selling my lowest yielding investment, I reckon that even if I pay my top price of 4 million baht, I will still be 6,000/7,000 baht per month better off. Of course, I hope to pay quite a bit less than 4 million baht. It will, however, be April before I can pay for it as I will need to give 60 days notice to transfer the funds. That works out quite well, as my existing lease expires at the end of June, which would give me time to do any odd bits of work that may be required to the cond
  2. And funds returning yields of 10% GENERALLY (though not always) carry a higher risk. Get independent financial advice before investing any funds. Alan
  3. A word of caution here. A high yield is GENERALLY (though not always) a sign of higher risk. Get independent financial advice before investing in anything Alan
  4. I have made use of one of these on the odd occasion. It is especially useful when your feet start wandering all over the pavement in any direction but the one you're meant to be heading. All I needed was an automatic device that selected the correct key and inserted it into and turned the lock as that was a very simple task that was totally beyond my capability that night. Alan
  5. You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself!!!! In my old office, we administered the estates of people who had just died. We were informed that one of our customers was seriously ill and only had a matter of hours to live - so we held a competition to see who could guess the time of death. I think my guess was closest. No prize was on offer - we weren't that sick. Alan
  6. KLM fly from Bangkok to Taipea. Sorry, don't know anything about costs. Alan
  7. Just about. Having finished 3rd in their group, they will be drawn against one of the group winners in the first knock-out round. Everton wojuld be a good draw for them and give them a very real chance of progressing to the next round. Rangers will play one of the 2nd placed teams. Alan
  8. I have ADSL in View Talay through TOT. Given a choice, I think I'd be inclined to go for TT&T as TOT's quality of service is shite. Alan
  9. Yes. I have set up a mandate with Nationwide Isle of Man so that all I need to do is either go on line or telephone them to instruct the transfers That is very important if you are renewing your visa based on having 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account. Immigration will want to see proof that the funds in the account originated from outside Thailand. Alan
  10. All Thai banks have SWIFT codes, which will allow foreign banks to make payments direct to your account. As always, the funds should be sent in your own currency and only converted to baht when the funds reach Thailand to ensure you get the internal rather than the external rate. Last time I transferred funds from my Isle of Man account, the funds were in my Bangkok Bank account less than 48 hours later. Alan
  11. Where on 3rd Road is it? Alan
  12. Assuming my flight's on time, I should get into KL at about 6.20 pm With a bit of luck, I'll be able to check into my hotel by 8.15 or maybe a bit later. Time for a quick shower and then out for something to eat. I know the area so won't have to waste time looking for a restaurant. I'm aware of the slower train. Certainly at KL Sentral, there's a dedicated platform for the express train - at least as far as I can remember. My return flight leaves at 1.40 in the afternoon so no major hassles getting to the airport on time for it. Alan
  13. Thanks for that jtiger. I'll check out that option when I'm in KL next month. How often does the green bus run? I would hate to sit in it for half an hour or more till it filled up. Alan
  14. Air Asia fly between KL and Bangkok - though they use a different terminal building from the major airlines. There is a bus service to and from the bus station (below the train KL Sentraal railway station). A one way ticket is something like 8 1/2 ringitts. http://www.airasia.com/index_ns.htm Alan
  15. I would be very surprised if they even considered that. As Joe says, a multiple entry visa is the way to go. Alan
  16. How the hell did I miss these? Alan
  17. 4 - you're forgetting the "f" in I am waiting For your answer. Alan
  18. Isn't this the hotel with the safes that can be picked up under one arm and moved to another room, if required? Or have new safes been installed? Alan
  19. A couple of corrections to Aqua4's post. 1. A medical certificate is no longer required for extending your visa on the basis of retirement. I didn't have one earlier this year nor was I asked for one. 2. Goods can now only be imported free of duty if you have a work permit. The rules changed 2 years ago whilst my goods were in transit!!!! I had arranged for various things to be shipped on a door to door basis so an agent in Bangkok dealt with Customs on my behalf. I believe the amount of duty to be paid was agreed on "an informal basis". Alan
  20. I've just had another look at Google maps but changing the route to what I believed to be a more direct one and sure enough, it is 7 miles shorter but takes some 15 minutes longer. The advantage of this route is that it avoids the Forth Road Bridge and the perpetual roadworks on it! Alan
  21. I'm still having the same problem that Scalawag mentioned though I do agree that it's totally different from the scrlling problem mentioned earlier. In fact, the only way I could see the previous 2 replies was by clicking on the "Add Reply" button. It's an FLB problem as I'm also looking at the Secrets board with no problems whatsoever. Alan
