That's useful to know. I may go in and have a chat with my landlord (he's a director of Northern Thai Realty) and see what they have available. Alan

Thanks for that Graham - I had seen that service and it will be ideal for getting into Edinburgh after I arrive, but I am then going on to Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife. According to Google maps, it's almost 90 miles and as Emirate's web site says the first 70 miles are free, it would cost me at least £51 on the way back. Even if I followed my current plan and got driven to Kirkcaldy, it's still borderline as to whether it's free or not. Another option, which may be the one I take is to stay in Edinburgh for the last night. Alan

After having rented for 2 1/2 years, I'm now thinking of buying a condo. I'm in no hurry and can wait for a year if necessary. Alan

Thanks, Tom. I'll think about them for my next trip but for May, the flight timings don't fit in too well with my travel plans. The Bangkok to Manchester is about 30,000 baht cheaper than Emirates. What's the lounge at Doha Airport like for waiting betwen flights as depending on the day I fly, I could have some 7 hours to kill - not exactly my idea of fun! Alan

I'm flying Emirates for the first time in May in Business Class. I have pre-selected my seat and when I was doing this, it was surprising just how many seats were not available. The downside is that I fly into Glasgow rather than Edinburgh but the monetary saving is worth the extra hassle. It's going to be a pain in the arse to get to Glasgow Airport for noon from where I'll be staying though. Alan

To be absolutely certain, go for the later flight. If you have an open ticket, you may be able to change to the earlier flight at the airport if you arrive at Don Muang in good time, which you should do. Alan

Why would you want another word for - synonym ['sInEnIm] noun 3 (Biology) a taxonomic name that has been superseded or rejected? Definition from Collins English Dictonary & Thesaurus Alan

Sorry, I don't know him. Do you know where in Pattaya he actually lives? Alan

I think that the story about the guy in Pattaya who tested his taser on himself deserves a mention. He was unable to release the trigger until the battery wore out and woke up several hours later at the other end of the room Alan

I've heard about the winner a number of times before so it's either made up or happened some years ago. Alan

At present, it is possible to convert the 30 day stamp in your passport to a non-Immigrant visa at Pattaya Immigration on payment of the appropriate fee - 2,000 baht, I think. That can then be extended based on retirement. This is a fairly new procedure, but I certainly would NOT suggest that anyone thinking about retiring here should assume that they will be able to do so. Alan

If what you say is true, could you please explain how Krowdon (and others) became a member on 14th November FOUR days BEFORE the board went public? Co-incidence? Somehow, I doubt it. Alan

It's some time since I last saw evidence of any work actually being done on Thappraya Road. Any idea as to when the work will be finished? At the present rate of progress, I would think the roadworks between Bangkok and Pattaya will be finished first. Alan -
View Talay 1 studios are 32 square metres. Those in View Talay 2A, where Gabor's one is, are slightly bigger at 37 square metres. Alan

I put in "Nights in white satin, never reaching the end Letters I've written, never meaning to send I'm not in love, it's just a silly phase I'm going through." Strangely, it couldn't cope with the word "phase". I found that surprising as the song the word is taken from should be well known. Certainly different. Alan

Welcome to the world of ex-pats. It's now 2 years 5 months and 2 days since I arrived here after retiring. at the age of 50. And I have never had a single moment when I have regretted the move. Alan

That is correct. I certainly have not heard of any change where you needed BOTH an income of 65,000 baht per month AND a deposit of 800,000 baht for 3 months. When I got my last bank letter, the letter highlighted the latest transfer of funds from my Isle of Man account. As you say, simply cashing travellers cheques and crediting them to your account would almost certainly not be accepted. Alan

A sangsom & coke is, at 125 baht, a fucking rip off. It should be at least 20% lower for the area. Alan

I'm on TOT's shit awful broad band service - 332/180 as opposed to the 512/256 that I'm paying for. I clear out my files on fairly regular basis and reboot my modem several times a day - thanks to these useless cunts at TOT. In fact, my modem is switched off when I go out or go to bed unless I'm downloading MP3 files. I've just given up on that because the service just now is so bad!!!!!! Alan

I seem to recall reading about plans to reintroduce a ferry service between Pattaya and Hua Hin. I take it that this is still at the thinking about it stage? Alan

I got a free upgrade to Business Class from QANTAS one year. My knees tend to seize up if I'm not able to get up and walk around so I invariably request an aisle seat when I check in. I lived in Edinburgh at that time so I had to take a connecting flight to Heathrow. I therefore arrived at Check-In around 3.00 pm to be told that no aisle seats were available (at least 3 hours before the Check-In desks at heathrow would be open) I get to the gate early and explain everything and request either an aisle seat or an upgrade. No aisle seats were available so I was upgraded to Business.

I've been uisng one for ages but I still have occasional problems scrolling. I'll turn the wheel but nothing will happen. Then, suddenly, the page will jump to the appropriate point. Frustrating when it happens but I think it's a PC problem rather than a problem with the various boards' software. Alan
-
I've had occasional problems - but I've been blaming my browser (Opera) or just my laptop running slow when my antivirus software does its daily check. I've had this elsewhere so I doubt whether it's the board's software to blame. Regarding photos, you really have to wait until ALL the photos have opened before trying to read later posts. It's a pain in the backside but it's a problem on all the boards. Alan
