  1. Working on back filling the hole this morning. The old Buakhao leaning utility pole has been reincarnated on Soi 15.
  2. A couple of shots of the cracking on 2nd Rd from this morning.
  3. Crew was out this morning working on the new market on Soi Full Love Inn.
  4. Noticed that too, although on 2nd Rd the road surface cracking is farther from the holes compared to the Soi 15 project. On 2nd Rd I think it's a case of rain runoff having found a path under the road surface and is washing out the underlaying sand base.
  5. Picture in the article is how that stretch has looked for the past couple of weeks leading up to the accident, with a big hole in the middle of the soi. There has been a narrow stretch on the left side one could walk or ride a bike on to get to The Avenue or Piss Alley to the right of the 7/11. I walked my mtn bike along that stretch last week as I wasn't comfortable riding on the broken, uneven ground. All it would take is one mistake and I'd probably have made the same trip into the gapping hole as the couple did.
  6. From the description of how they fell into the hole, it sounds like the sides of the hole weren't sufficiently shored up and collapsed when they tried to ride on the pedestrian path next to the hole. A couple on a motorbike fell into a large, 3-meter deep construction hole in the street on Soi Buakhao 15 and suffered several injuries. ... The witnesses stated that the two victims were a couple living nearby and were heading to a convenience store. However, when they reached the hole, the street suddenly collapsed and sent them flying into the hole along with their bike. The witnesses said the victims were still very lucky, as they did not get impaled by any steel rod in the hole. ...
  7. Good thing this pilot had a friend who could bring him enough to get him back in the air.
  8. This pic is from last Thursday. The white pillar on the left is the Grand Ave entrance. Impossible to say what it'll look like in Nov/Dec. If you're going to book now, I'd recommend making sure it comes with a no cancelation penalty.
  9. Keep in mind English is a 2nd language for her, so the nuances of writing a reply with a bit more politeness might be a struggle.
  10. I recall that as well. It was years ago, probably when they were in the midst of enforcing only authorized cab companies allowed to work the airport, that drivers on a couple of occasions asked me to sit up front so it looked more like they were dropping off a friend.
  11. I'm with you on the not fun to drag your suitcases up escalators, into a crowded elevator and around the garage to get to where the driver parked. I see the curbside pickup as an improvement. With the photo of the car and registration number in hand, easy to spot your ride.
  12. I prefer to have more control over over the quality of the driver and ride that shows up than some random driver that booking.com would send. For that reason I always use Nam's Taxi.
  13. Looks like a new bar or restaurant is going up on Soi 15. The organic farm on Soi Full Love Inn is building what looks like a sales area for their product. And farther east on the same soi the new market is making very slow progress.
  14. Tents are going up on Beach Rd for August's music festivals. I might also add there's been a noticeable uptick in tour bus and flag following groups on Beach Rd. WS repaving update. Don't know why they went to plain cream color for all the pavers on this stretch. Mix of colors start again at the Buddha tree. Soi 15 work progress.
  15. I used to use flyertalk on a regular basis when I was a mileage junkie and flying every week for business. Great resource. Here's the link to the Air Canada topic on their forum.
  16. I was curious how long the flight is from YVR-BKK. Almost 16 hrs. I get cabin fever and can't wait for the flight to end whenever it approaches 12 hrs in length, and that's in BC. On the plus side, your total travel time of 26 hrs is less than the usual 28 - 30 hrs I endure when traveling back to MKE.
  17. They've really gone to town with the paint on 3rd Rd too. You're right the lines and box grids probably won't make one iota of difference. What annoys me though are the rumble strips they put ahead of each intersection. Quite a few of those on 3rd Rd now. Fortunately there's a gap in the strips between lanes, so I aim my bike down the gap to avoid the nut jarring rumble strips.
  18. Mobile data anyone... Puzzled why the Thai's felt the need to paint all the arrows the length of Soi Arunotai. Doubt anyone has ever confused this as a one way soi.
  19. I like Google Flights for finding the best airfares. Selecting the calendar function shows various prices based on departure and return dates. Once you've selected departure and return dates, you can then use the Price Graph function to show prices on different dates for the length of the trip you selected.
  20. I would think getting a 2nd opinion on any major health issue would be SOP, regardless of where you got the 1st opinion.
  21. TBH, other than the removal of the boxing ring, the makeover looks like a cleaned up version of the old beer bars.
  22. Ground level bars are still there, and have recently gotten a makeover.
  23. Good point, but they've had pavers for years and they haven't been undercut by storm water. Suspect the sand base and proximity to the sea allows for quick drainage.
  24. Now that they new mayor started kicking butts, they're making good progress on the repaving of WS. It'll look even better once they pull the utility poles.
  25. They're working on a major flood control canal about 300m south of Khao Noi on the railway road. The canal empties into a low spot on the north/south road. No doubt the project includes pumps, but I'm wondering where they intend to pump the water to. There's drainage along the road that runs to the south where there's a pumping station. That station dumps water into an underground canal that ties in to the work they're doing on Sukhumvit by Pattaya Tai, but looking at the size of the above canal the water volume will overwhelm the drainage to the south.
