Retirement Visa from USA.... need input from those who have them.
lovedog100 replied to frostfire's topic in Expat Issues
As soon as you get your letter, you can head for Pattaya. It should take less than an hour to get the letter. Everything else can be done in Jomtien. You can catch a Taxi right across the street from the embassy to the bus station, or all the way into Pattaya. If you ask to go to the bus station, the driver will start negotiating a ride all the way to Pattaya. Remember, you don't just have to have a bank account, but you have to have a letter from the bank, plus a copy of your bank book. 30 days is plenty of time. Get Sophon TV at Dave's house, and you will have a utility bill, and residence address. I got my first retirement visa using my hotel address. They had a problem with it at first, but I explained that I couldn't sign a lease without having a visa. I got away with it, but that doesn't mean that anyone can. Maybe my excuse sounded plausible, because I have met others that were not allowed to use their Hotel address. That said, I also know a couple of guys that rented monthly at Tigglebitties, and used that address. One of them is still there. If you showed up in Pattaya with your letter from the embassy and then partied for two days, then went and got your letter from the bank, and partied for two days, then went to Jomtien and got your visa application, pictures and copies, then partied for two more days before turning in all your paperwork, you still have 20 days left on your visa. Days in Pattaya are boring, you can easily do one thing a day, and still have more than enough time, and never feel rushed. If you have your visa letter when you arrive in Pattaya, you could pick one day during your first week, then go to the bank in the morning, and as soon as you have your letter, go to jomtien and fill out the paperwork, and do it all except picking up your passport in one day. If it's a slow day at immigration like it was that last time I did it, you might be able to pick up your passport the same day. You worry to much. -
I didn't think of the pink panther movies. She watches the pink panther cartoons, there isn't any language in them. Laurel and Hardy may be a good idea. Seems that I remember a lot of their comedy being interaction between the two where language skills would be needed. I'll have to take a look, there was probably more slapstick visual than I remember. I don't think that I have seen one since I was a kid. Thanks, I didn't even think of looking at Hulu because I couldn't get it while living in Thailand.

Some do. Added more to my post, while you were posting this. You are correct about the airlines requiring return tickets though. Reggie can get a changeable date ticket, and have the date within his visa dates, but they cost about double, sometimes more. It's the same price or less, to allow the cheap ticket to expire unused, and the just buy another ticket when needed. Although, he would be where I was when I did that, and have to show his retirement visa each time, to show that he is a Thailand resident and not required to have a return ticket. His tickets would be from BKK to the US and back from then on. As I said, I've had the computer pick it up, when the ticket agent at the desk missed it. -

Reggie, Portland,s website is very outdated. If you really think that you need a 60 day visa, call them, don't go by their website. A 30 day visa on arrival should be more than enough time to get what you need. If you need help finding a house or condo, Derek Sharron can help. He is American, honest and hooked up with some American property owners that will treat you well. His number is 086-722-1216 -

I wouldn't waste time with a 60 day visa. You have to have a type O visa before you can apply for a retirement visa. You can apply for that in the US, or wait and do it in Thailand. As Jacko said, it's a one day process, and you get your stamped passport the next day. When you fly into BKK stop by the American embassy and tell them that you you need an income verification letter for a retirement visa. The cost is $50 It's better to do it when you arrive, or you will have to take a trip to back BKK to get it. Then you must open a Thai bank account, and get a letter from the bank stating that you have an account and the amount of funds in the account. Between your deposited funds, and your monthly income, it has to equal up to 800,000 baht per year. Next you need proof of residence. They like to see a lease, but I think they will accept utility bills. Show up at immigration with... 1. Your notarized letter from the US Embassy 2. Your letter from the bank, plus your bank book 3. Your lease or utility bills. 4. Bring your own pen, immigration doesn't supply them 5. Bring money, you will need to pay for the type O visa, pay for the retirement visa, and if you want to go in and out of the country, you will have to pay for a multiple entry stamp. 6. Your passport When you get to immigration, go to the copy place next door and tell them that you need copies and pictures for a type O visa, and a retirement visa. Make sure that you tell them for both, or you will be sent back for more copies and pictures. Then go into immigration, fill out the form for the two visas. There is a help desk to pick up the forms from, often they have a farang there as well. Take a number and wait. When you get to the desk, be respectful, Don't talk a lot, just answer the questions asked, and wait. Under no circumstances get angry. It is an easy process. Immigration is probably the most efficient office in the Thai government. Do not get an attorney in the states, and do not pay anyone in Thailand for help, you can do it all. You do not need it, but it sometimes helps to have a Thai speaker with you. I did my first one all by myself. The rest, I took Jane with me. See if Alice will go with you, her English is good enough to explain what is going on to you during each step. When you are finished, you will be given a number, bring that number back the next day, and they will trade it for your stamped passport. After that, you only need worry about your 90 day reports. Don't be late, they will charge you 2,000 baht for being late, and to late, they can deport you. If you leave the country, the 90 days is reset to the day that you came back into the country. 90 days from your date of re-entry you need to file the 90 day report. You can do the report up to 5 days early, I always went a few days early in case there was a problem, or a Thai holiday that I didn't know about.. Don't sweat it Reggie, just arrive with all of the paperwork, and the required money, it will all be fine. Don't take my word for it, but I think the type O visa is 1,900 baht, the retirement visa 1,900 baht, and the multiple entry is 3,500 baht. Plus you will pay for copies and pictures. If you have 10,000 Baht, you will be fine, and can have lunch on your way home. -
Okay, then why are you asking?

This may sound weird, but I want to share with my wife old comedy. I'm looking for something like the three stooges, or the keystone cops. Something that is funny and transcends language. As a kid, I would wake up every Saturday morning to watch them, and would laugh and laugh. I would like to share that experience with Jane. I've looked on several of the torrent sights, but can't find any thing, nor have I been able to find anything in the few DVD rental places left. Anyone know where to find any old comedy movies, or shorts that were visually funny, with out having to listen to the language? The old stuff before there were talkies would be great like the keystone cops, but even the three stooges that was visual comedy would be good. A place to buy or rent them maybe? Torrent sites?

Probably. A good tattoo artist puts the ink in just below the skin. The deeper the ink, the more likely lines will spread with age. If you look at how much your lines have thickened up, that will be some indication of how easily it will be to remove. In the states, it's expensive to have done. I would think that in Canada, it would be part of their medical. I looked into it in Pattaya, it was a whole lot cheaper to do there, than at home. I never did get around to doing it though.

After my mom had her last stroke, we had to put her in a care facility for $8,000 a month. After living in Thailand and knowing men that went through the same thing, I should have done it different. The man that lived across from me had a Thai girl take very good care of him, one on one attention. I think that he got better care than my mom for a fraction of the cost. I would say that my mom would have been happier if I would have brought her to Thailand and hired someone to take care of her. I lived in a different state at the time, and my brother that lived walking distance away from her, yet couldn't be bothered. My mom did not want to live her last years in a care facility. They had the state minimum of one employee per six residence. Wish I would have stepped up to the plate, and taken her to Thailand with me. Think about it. You could get a condo close to the hospital, and look in on her when ever you wanted. I'm not sure about your country, but Thai's take care of the elderly a whole lot better than Americans do. Their whole attitude is different. Even if you rented a house, put a Thai woman in it for 6,000 baht a month, plus room and board, she would probably get much better care, for a whole lot less, and you could live where you want. In Thailand.

One thing I really hated in Pattaya is the TV available. Satellite was expensive, with only a few channels available. Even with the add on of HBO, it only had old movies that I had seen years before, some when I was a teen. Sophon just plain sux, and while I had it, they dropped a couple of their better English channels. If you have high speed internet, and a VPN there is a good alternative. Netflix. They have on demand movies, and TV shows over the internet for $7.99 a month. Right now they are giving 30 days free to try it out. I highly recommend trying it out for free. To sign up you will need a credit card or debit card. You will also need at least 1.5 MB internet speed. I haven't tried it from Thailand, but I am sure it isn't available in Thailand, which is why you will need a VPN. So, your 1.5 MB will have to be while using the VPN. Do a speed test while using your VPN, if you are getting at least 1.5 MB, you shouldn't have any problem. You might have to pick a server from the US, play with it and see. I just hooked it up where I am, and saved about $90 over cable. The TV shows and movies are commercial free. That is the biggie for me, as it seems that every show is 50% commercials now. I ran a wire to my big screen TV and watch it from there. I can half size the picture, and surf the internet while watching something at the same time. Anyway, give it a shot, it's free for now. Let me know how it worked out for you. Here is a link. http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AgXVPkpqAXGcIDBP6PuCpnmbvZx4?p=netflix&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-701 Those of you working in Afghanistan and Iraq should be able to use it as well.

I've met lots of hippies. I don't remember any thinking food was free or that the east coast had slave labor, and the west coast Union labor. No telling what she thought happened in the mid-west. Oh, and she can take the free food and sell it at the farmers market LOL

Are you telling me that there are others like her walking around there?

Wow, you are going through a lot of old posts today. Nice to see Bee again though. She was a bit of a favorite of mine. Tall with broad shoulders, she kinda looked like a lady boy, but she would fuck all day long. Extremely firm tits too.

Well that is surprising to me. I knew that there was only two negatives, but I never would have thought that I was running out of positives at 10. I guess that I gave more than I thought. The 2 negs were usually enough, with the exception of the every once in a while topic. I wished I had more for the guy that posted about anti semitism not long ago. What a jerk.

I've reached it many times. Seems kinda low to me.

Living together wth 2 Thaigirls?
lovedog100 replied to easyliving's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Good fantasy, but may be more problems than it solves. Two women together are likely to fight and argue, putting you in the middle. Two bisexual girls might work better, they each get something out of having the other. Keeping one, and playing on the side is the way that most of us deal with it. There are lots of gogo's, and soi 6 is always available. -
I had forgot about that. I bought a printer just to do the application. Got a cheap one, but well worth the money as I needed it. It was great for doing pictures, because I could put 4 per page, and label them. You are right, we don't deal with the embassy, other than doing all the paperwork, and getting everything together. She goes in alone.

You can still do it. You really just need three things. 1. Show evidence that she has strong reasons to return to Thailand. 2. Her reasons for going to the US are within the rules. 3. She has the money to support herself while in the country, and return to Thailand. If your niece has been turned down, you can bet it was for one of those three reasons. You have not given any details, age, occupation, reason for traveling and such. Most of the time when I hear a story like yours, as the story is told, I can spot why the lady has been turned down. Most of those I have heard of, there was someone in the US that was going to pick up the tab for travel, feed, house, and entertain the lady. While that sounds good to us, let's look at it from immigrations view, and experience. The girl comes to the US and stays with you. A week later you find out that she has been sleeping with your son, and you tell her to get out. Now there is a foreigner in the country with no means of support, and no way home. It doesn't look good at that point. They will expect the girl to do something illegal to support herself, and she won't go home when her visa runs out. Either she can't afford to, or decides that she doesn't want to. Try again, but make sure you have those three things covered. Read the rules over and over again, make sure that she reads them. You may have to have your wife translate them for the girl, but she needs to know what she can't do.

Sole intention is to have a holiday in the US. Getting married, is just something that happened while she was there, like going to Disneyland. Lilbarry, in your case, she had a birth certificate problem. Maybe you would have caught it, maybe not. However if you do it yourself, and like I said, spend a day doing research, you will know what is expected. The immigration web page will tell you everything that is needed. I printed off the list, and checked them off as they went into the folder. I even double checked everything over and over. When you went in to have what she had translate, they should have told you then and there what you needed. The people that do the certified translations do this over and over, and know. Usually, they have someone that would do it for you, for less than the agency's charge. I was offered to have them take care of the legalization of my document from the embassy for 1,000 baht. That is the one thing that I wish I had taken them up on. I spent all day sitting in a chair, waiting for a stamp on the document that took about one minute once I got to the desk. Sanuk300, Your situation is different. What I referred to was a wife, or girlfriend of an expat. If you are living in Thailand, and can document your relationship. You can get a tourist visa for the lady to go to the US on holiday with you. In my case, Jane was living with me for two years, and she was on two different house leases with me. We had pictures documenting that two years. Her anchor to Thailand was me. I had planned on returning to Thailand after a 3 month visit. As it turned out, it will probably take a year to get back. Still, when I go back, I will being her with me, and she will have made one trip back on her own. I did marry her to assure her visa, but didn't have to. We were married just a couple of days before we submitted the application. They aren't dumb, they could read the date on the marriage certificate. MM has been with Pin for 7 years, and can easily document that relationship. He would probably get a vise for her just as easily, even though they are not married. She is his girlfriend, and her sole support, she will go where he does. When he came back to Thailand, she would be sitting beside him. If you look at, it make sense. In your case with the niece. As far as immigration is concerned, having her aunt in the US, would be a Tie to the US, not Thailand. As others have stated, they assume the lady will not return to Thailand. You have to come up with overwhelming reasons what she would. I could offer some suggestions, but I really don't know the full situation. If her parents have a farm, they are probably planning on splitting up the property on their death and giving it to the children. Have them legally transfer ownership to your niece her part, so that she can show property ownership as a Tie to Thailand. If she is in school, plan for a visit while school is out, and have a paid receipt for her next years tuition. Proof that she plans to return for school. Another thing, read the rules for a tourist visa very well. You may have said something that would violate those rules. If she says something like she wants to go to the US and take a class in hair cutting while there, that violates the rules, she can not go to school while in the US. I know a girl that got turned down because she said that she wanted to visit her aunt and help with her restaurant, again, she wasn't allowed to work in the US. Even if she were to say that she was going to help your wife with your new baby. That is work, and not allowed. Many people screw up in the application because they don't know the rules, and say something in passing that will disqualify them. You would think that helping a US citizen would be a good thing, but it's not. Reapply. You should always keep a copy of everything you send them, so that when you reapply, both applications say the same thing. A change, will look like a lie.
