Don't worry, Jacko, I got your point....,

My Thai 'wife' lives in Sisaket, so we use Ubon for air services and commute, as necessary. I like the city and, back in my time as an academic, I had a short visit to the University to share some information on aircraft engineering (an engineered visit and a cushy one, with fringe benefits?). I am impressed with the Boeing 747 in the grounds there now, and am further impressed as to how they transported it to the site and reassembled it.

Thanks. I wasn't sure. I landed there back in 1967 and 68 a couple of times and now, although obviously still governed by Thai Navy, I don't think they have any fixed wing aircraft (yet), and so might only operate helos there at times. I'm sure it would/could still function as a military base, if required. I haven't been to the airport since its transition, so was just wondering.

Is UTP still a military airfield, or just one used by military on occasion?

Thailand too. I have often watched take-offs and landings of fighters of the Royal Thai Air Force, which are stationed right there, opposite the runways at Ubon Ratchathani airport.

A friend lost his glasses in Kanchanaburi, but had his prescription from Australia with him. A new pair of specs cost a great deal more than in Australia and I was shocked to see the price. That was about 5 years ago and cost him around 34000 THB. Of course, he went into Top Charoen to order them, due to staff with short skirts and nice legs. Stay away from them if you want a good price; there are plenty of other optometrists to choose from that provide just as good service, but without all the expense.

How many Maggie Mays are there? I had.look on Google and there seems to be at least 2 of them - one in Jomtien and one (says it is a Gentlemen's Club and Bar), and the other an average 'hotel'. There may be more. Of the 2 I looked at, neither was on Soi Chaiyaphun.

More than I would pay, but that's me....

Why does masturbation get such a negative reaction?

I spent over 20 years in the Navy and 'wanking' was taken as a normal function when away at sea for a long time, Jokes abounded in the messes about it. -
I went past Pattaya (which was a small fishing village) aboard a bus full of Australian sailors in 1965, from Sattahip, which we accessed by boat from our ship anchored just off the coast. We were enroute to Bangkok, and I have no recollection of what, or where Pattaya was. In fact I have no recollection of the return trip south neither, as I was just one other drunken sailor on the trip. It took me many years to get back to Patts, and I guess my first trip to the now much bigger place would have been in the early 2000s. I did return (alongside) to Sattahip in the late 60s, during the Vietnam war, but stayed locally.

I befriended a bloke who lived a few doors down in Australia, and who was a Muslim from Bangladesh. I invited him over for a meal and said we were having roast pork and a few red wines. He came, and he drank a few wines, and also ate (and enjoyed) the roast pork. When I questioned this he said that people of his faith are expected to make mistakes sometimes, and that pressures of modern living sometimes also meant that, to avoid offence, occasions might arise when they may have to partake in possibly banned behaviour. He said he would go to the temple the next day and pray for forgiveness and all would be okay. This is just the same as the Muslims that come to Pattaya and enjoy all the pleasures of the body and soul and, when they go home, pray for forgiveness until the next visit.... My friend enjoyed many glasses of wine with us over time and I hope that he is a very forgiven man.?
