Residence Garden and FLB/Pattayatalk: room rate termination
nkped replied to MM's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
First (ground) floor has less privacy and, potentially security, because someone could walk up to your veranda/lanai railing. The rooms at the south end of the building (room 6?) have an actual bedroom window.- 29 replies

Which bridge do you live under?

I don't have any near term interest in going to Sihanoukville. Also, I'm trying to control my OCD, but I can't help but observe that no one has bothered to provide a link or name a carrier.

Seoul Incheon is a shopping mall. Unfortunately, I'm not into buying things in airports so I can't help that much. Did seem to be a good selection of cameras and other small electronics.

The Hilton is a lot closer to Soi 6 than the Marriott/Avani.

Same width and arm rests? United economy plus on domestic flights only meant I didn't lose my knee caps.

I'm familiar with Eva Air's Elite Class/Premium Economy seating. That may suit my purpose and its a not unreasonable amount higher than an economy seat. Anyone know of another airline with equivalent seating on trans-Pacific routes?

Which hospital is the best value in Pattaya?
nkped replied to simplelife's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
Not sure if it would still be that low if there was a lab test. Office visit and a couple of meds will still come in the 3,000 baht range. I should mention that I have also had a couple of misfires at BHP. The clearest was about three years ago when the orthopedic specialist missed a crack in the head of the humerus in the shoulder joint. It set okay anyway but that is a bit disconcerting. Doc in the US found it by way of an MRI. The guy at BHP didn't order one. -

The OP will likely find the BHP prices to be reasonable or at least not that bad compared to the US. Perhaps that is because medical costs in the US are outrageous, entirely possible. Or, perhaps, it is because, in the US, we get to see the actual bill even if most of us have most of the bill paid by insurance. I gather that is not the case in a country with a single payer system. -

Last time I had a cc number go walkabout was after I had used the card at a Hilton hotel in Portland, Oregon. -
I don't know about the others, but the likelihood I would be able to just walk in and get a seat without a reservation was an attraction. That was fulfilled. I've had worse turkey and the same mystery meat dressing at a more expensive venue in Pattaya. Christmas, a year ago, I had more food, but equally bland, for lower cost at a local "English" pub. I would put Hooters above McDonald's but below other bar/grill chains in the US, at least for the food.

Come to think of it, the "dressing" was a kind of puréed, compacted mystery meat.

I had the Christmas dinner at Hooters as well. I thought slightly better of it than MM did. The white meat was okay. If only they could have found a little bit of moist dark meat as well. I've encountered that type of "dressing" before, also in Pattaya. It was entirely innocent of any kind of bread product.

Plan to approve 10 year visas for over 50s - read fine print
nkped replied to MM's topic in Idle Chit Chat
Barrow's article does suggest the 10 year, or if you prefer 5-5, stay will be available via the conversion extension route. That language suggests a reentry permit would not be required, but I'll believe that when I see it. As we have touched on elsewhere, some number of us from the US have group health insurance through an employer which continued into retirement. For those who were self employed or otherwise don't have that coverage, not something that can be remedied now. QUERY--Is this even a possibility for those from countries with single payer health care systems. As I understa -
I've done a few claims by submitting bills from Thailand to Blue Cross Blue Shield and been reimbursed. You really need a scanner, particularly with the virtual extinction of the internet cafe. At Bangkok Hospital, you need to get the long form, detailed bill. The pink receipt which you normally get may not have sufficient detail. Any of the cashiers can print it out, but it may be a challenge to get across what you need.

Not exactly. First time I ever went to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya in 2013, they wanted to see my passport which I had the good sense to have with me. They entered my information and at some point I ended up with some paperwork with a 10 digit number on it. With that number, you avoid having to present your passport on subsequent visits. The staff can probably find you in their computer without it, but they, and you, will be happier if you have the number. I have it in my contact list on the phone now. Had never given them my insurance information before because there is no direct billing,

I'd known for some time that the web site for my flavor of Blue Cross insurance said Bangkok Hospital Pattaya could bill them directly for in-patient care. The BHP site said the same thing. This week, the wheel of life turned another couple of notches and I can confirm that it is true. BHP can and does bill Blue Cross directly for in-patient care. Even had a nurse who worked for Blue Cross call to see how I was doing and whether I had any questions she could answer. I have a BHP number so I don't take my passport when I go there. However, the dragon lady from billing said she needed t

The GFE provider mentioned something along those lines, something like you can't be easily disturbed if you are going to sleep in a Thai house.
