  1. Took a walk down the way to the Corner House/Wok n' Rok. First, the Wok n' Rok menu is the only food on offer and there is prominent signage saying the premises are for sale. I wouldn't count on Wok n' Rok being there for an extended period. It's open air, but has ceiling mounted fans, so it was comfortable. I ordered the kung pao shrimp. As anticipated, it came with the sweet (plum?) sauce, although it wasn't overly thick. Been a while since I ordered kung pao dishes anyplace, but I don't recall them including pineapple pieces. It was served hot and it was a good serving of shrim
  2. Wonder if any of the falls are Darwin Award competitors who think it would be really neat to perch on the railing while consuming the 14th beer of the evening.
  3. That can be tolerable or completely god awful, but certainly not my preference. It would be poorly suited to delivery or take out as it needs to be hot to have any hope of being edible.
  4. I'm curious how it is going to work for them operating out of an established restaurant with its own brand.
  5. It would be a bit disconcerting to look out and see that. Probably even more so if you heard something prang and not be able to see what it was.
  6. They're just down the block from me so I will probably give them a try. Only made it to the Buakhao location once. Probably finished what I ordered, but never felt the need to make the trek back.
  7. They may be right but a chili dog always struck me as a first class ticket for the last visa run.
  8. I ate at the Kiss outlet in the Rompho market in Jomtien once. It was passable food (high side of mediocre) and a slightly better physical setup. I can do better with a shorter walk.
  9. Not questioning what you say about hotel balconies, but at VT2 the railings are high enough that you're not going over by accident
  10. He made the Channel 7 news as he got to have some conversations with the police.
  11. Joke but a lot of truth, new lawyer moves to a small town where he is the only lawyer in town and hangs out his shingle. He almost starves. Second lawyer moves to town. Result? They both prosper.
  12. I was trying to use one of the ATMs at the top of the moving walkway in the Big C on Sukhumvit. It was a card on a US bank, and the machine didn't like the amount I was trying to get so I pushed the button for cancel. The screen goes back to the display for an entirely new transaction. I wait several more seconds and no card, so I figure the fickle finger of fate just got me and I go on into the store. Maybe 10 meters along, I hear what sounds like a youngster running. I turn around and it's a 12 year old Thai girl with a beatific smile and my card. Gave her what was probably my most sin
  13. Suspect the issue would carbon monoxide, not a biggy with the vent closed and the traffic moving. If you came to a full stop in the tunnel, you might not want to wait too long before trying to walk out.
  14. Only in the city of Houston once and I remember it being extremely flat.
  15. Went there for the first time. Nice facility and great service. I had the barbecue bacon cheeseburger. It was a nice burger and a lot of food for a reasonable price. All that being said, the next time I am up that way, I will probably go to the Brooklyn Diner. Best reason I can give is that I prefer to be able to eat my burgers with my hands rather than knife and fork.
  16. I remember when a little jar of Ajinomoto MSG to shake on your food was standard in restaurants in Thailand.
  17. Switching to flight mode turns off the wifi, at least on an android. However, while in flight mode, you can turn the wifi back on.
  18. The world has changed enough that I could imagine a trans Pacific captain or first officer keeping the information for an emergency divert to Vladivostok in his back pocket. Even lil' Kim isn't crazy enough to launch on Russia.
  19. Unfortunately I don't think so, but unless your timing is exceptionally bad you'll either be fine or the flight will be canceled.
  20. I think it is more a question of great circle routing and I don't really know the answer. FWIW Until switching to 777ERs made it unnecessary, China Air or Korean Air flights with 747-400s going from JFK to Taipei or Seoul Incheon would make a refueling stop in Anchorage, Alaska. They did board passengers in Anchorage so it was great for me but I suspect the folks who boarded at JFK must have detested it.
  21. On my just completed sojourn back in the US, I was rather shocked to see that I spent a little over USD600 in two months at the local Safeway (supermarket) outlets. Able to track it through their afinity program. Not all food items, but still!
  22. We have a new leader in the competition for most pointless internet spat.
