  1. Calories would be a minor concern if I tried to eat that.
  2. Business class on a Delta 777 was okay as was that on Japan Airlines 787s.
  3. Just got back from my trip to the US yesterday. I booked Eva premium economy as it is a much better seat for a price which is not catastrophic. Going east the food was pretty blah. Returning was much better. Getting off the planes, I looked at the business class seats on the way through. It was a tunnel for your feet arrangement. My experience with business class is pretty limited but I encountered that type of seat on a Delta 767 a few years ago on the US-Tokyo leg. It only accommodates a flat on your back, legs straight out, practice for the coffin position. I was happier with my
  4. 33.11 to the USD on an ATM withdrawal. And, yes, I will get the 220 baht back, but can only do that a couple of times a month.
  5. It touched 36 within the past couple of years.
  6. On a transfer to Bangkok Bank got 32.86 to the USD. Usually about 20 satang behind the TT rate.

    World Cup

Back in Anchorage, Alaska for the moment. Went to my favorite breakfast place this morning (Saturday) and they had a good crowd watching the France-Argentina game.
  8. A few times, I have seen sobriety checkpoints along Khao Talo on the darkside between 7 and 8am. No problems but they probably get a fee legitimate busts at that hour.
  9. But if my retirement savings crump as a result of the trade war . . .
  10. I finished my lifetime allotment of Budweiser 30 years ago. Unfortunately I kept drinking it for another 20 years.
  11. I thought that was the reason for the formaldehyde, at least in the old school Singha.
  12. USD has come back slightly in the last month or so. Hanging around 32 is better than 31.
  13. The Death of Stalin. If you were afflicted with an interest in Soviet area studies, much of the story is familiar but it it is played as a farce which, perhaps, is appropriate. Steve Buscemi is great as Khruschev.
  14. I've been happy with the Samsung J7 Pro which I bought last October from the AIS shop in the basement of Central Festival. It has 32GB of memory and a very good camera. Had to sign up for a service plan to get the price on the phone but the monthly charge was a few hundred baht cheaper than what I had been paying for pay as go. No, I don't remember the price of the phone with any certainty but I suspect it is lower now anyway.
  15. 31,000 feet on BR26 enroute to Seattle

  16. On the continuation of BR068 to Taipei tomorrow. We shall see.
  17. You're probably going to need a residency certificate from immigration. Suspect that may be a problem.
  18. There are a few vaguely Hawaiian items with pineapple or spam, hence the name. He has also added a few Thai dishes as well as an English breakfast. The English breakfast looks good although I haven't had it. As before, the pancakes are outstanding. Unfortunately, the biscuits and gravy dropped off the menu.
  19. It is mildly curious that renewal of a five year license is so much more onerous than the procedure for getting the initial license. Perhaps the theory is that after seven years in Pattaya you are likely to be completely broken down.
  20. My experience was good. I had seen him recommended elsewhere on the internet. I believe he had trained in the US. At any rate, his English is outstanding. Insurance was Blue Cross/Blue Shield from the US. It's standard one page form for overseas claims submitted on line along with the bill. No pre-approval was required. The key was the bill which stated what service was provided. This far on, I'm not sure if it was covered 100% or something less like 80%, definitely well over 50%.
  21. Several years back had an Eva flight that was several hours late (probably coming from the UK) getting out of Bangkok going to Taipei. I figured there was no hope of making my connecting flight to the US. I didn't even hurry and was rehearsing my phone call "Boss, guess where I am." To my surprise my flight had not left.
  22. I wonder if they will still have grade crossings in Pattaya as the concept of not stopping on the tracks even if the gate is up, doesn't seem to be known here.
  23. I think the last time I had spam was probably in a breakfast item at a McDonald's on Guam in 1999. One of the omelets at the Big Kahuna has spam as an ingredient. I may have to get one for old times sake.
  24. Yogi, some of your compatriots have claimed, with some pride, that spam was invented in the UK. http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/67592-spam/?hl=spam&do=findComment&comment=1187596
  25. If, god forbid, I was stuck in a window seat, I would prefer that. Bulkheads don't give if you need shoulder room.
