Pictures from around Pattaya
nkped replied to forcebwithu's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Thais can certainly do civil engineering. The Sukhumvit-Klang underpass is an example. Getting it right in a particular instance may be another matter. -
Don't usually use agents. Last month, booked a Bangkok to Hong Kong trip through American Express, but had to reschedule. Very impressive service, one relatively short phone call. Trip next month was directly booked with Eva. I suspect more cancellations will be posted when the Eva day workers come to work Monday morning. Not looking forward to this now that the strike will continue.

Taipei-Seattle flight on July 11 not canceled so they should have an aircraft to make the return trip on the 12th. Cutting it a bit close.?
-
This is getting entirely too interesting. The flight out of Seattle the day before my return trip on July 12 has been canceled, nothing on the next day yet. EVA has a site for cancelation information.
-
Checked the seating on my flight on 12 July. Can't be certain, but I think there were a lot more open seats than there had been before so I improved my seat. Could be interesting.
-
That's concerning. Hope it's resolved by 12 July.

I finally saw it on Eva IFE. Yes, big screen would be better but that will be hard to find now. It starts fairly routine and even grimly humorous. The recruiting sergeant telling a big 15 year old that, yeah, he looks 19. Then it gets very real both in narrative and images.

Yes, the wifi trans-Pacific sucked. Absent a need to communicate one to one, not social media, I would say not worth it.
-
I have it on good authority that it is fairly easy for a Thai to finance a car. Making the payments can be a different matter

Flying EVA eastbound tomorrow so went online to purchase wifi for the long flight. To my distress got a message saying not available for my reservation. Mucked around a bit and found you now purchase it on board.

Expat Car Rental has good condition vehicles. They claim to have good insurance. Fortunately, I never had cause to test that. They did not require an IDP but were visibly happier when I produced one. Going to Kanchanaburi, you have to get around the north side of Bangkok. If you have confidence in your lady's driving ability, you might do better with her taking control on that part of the drive.

Hotel vs Condo rental - 3 weeks stay
nkped replied to Butch's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Traditional agents are still listing. -
I've got the direct deposit for a qualifying check set up. Looking forward, the issue is the requirement to go to a branch to make a transfer. That's not a major issue now, but could be later. Seriously considering breaking out the 800K at some point and just letting it sit.

Most of the US caucus has known for a while that ACH transfers through Bangkok Bank were coming to an end, supposedly as of April 1. It's also known that that didn't really happen. I received the attached letter from Bangkok Bank which suggests the real end will be June 30.

It was a she, probably 30 something Chinese.

Last week the GFE provider and I go to Hong Kong. We go to Victoria Peak, which I highly recommend. There was a photographer taking pictures of people with the spectacular background. When we get to the the front of the line, the photographer asks "Is this your father?" The GF is tall and does lighten her hair but is not built like an interior lineman or a rugby front liner so not really a plausible scenario. She understood the question and said no. While unspoken, I think you could have heard the "OH" in Macau.

We looked at the Thai passport section and it looked to be all automated stations so "I'm with her" didn't seem to be an option.

Immigration is now using biometrics capture technology at Suvarnabhumi. On the counter, there is a device with a glass surface. You place the four fingers of your right hand on it until it registers, then the four fingers of your left had and finally your two thumbs. Once that is done, a connected camera takes your picture. On Monday, there was signage at departing saying it was being tested. Coming back on Friday, no such signage. For each set of prints, it registered in a few seconds, comparable to similar tecnology in the US. I don't know (didn't look) to see if the officer had a

At Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, be sure to ask the cashier for the detailed bill for insurance. The red white and blue receipt may not suffice. Yes, if your insurance has provision for overseas claims, send it in. They'll pay or they won't.

Who knows. She thought not.

A Thai, at least one, who has an expired passport, can get a new one the same day in Bangkok. As best I can determine this was at the Klong Toei office and the applicant probably needs to be there first thing in the morning. This is second hand, but I saw the new passport. To make things more interesting, she lost her queue card and fee receipt after turning in the application. They found her in the computer although my impression is they weren't in a rush to do so.

In and out in 20 minutes at about 10am the day after a holiday. That said, I got a multiple reentry permit although I only anticipate two trips outside the kingdom this year.

Got 31.996 to the USD on a debit card purchase at Big C. Hasn't been to 32, rounding up or otherwise, in a while.

Suvarnabhumi. Queue for a taxi or go upstairs for drop offs?

I've always used the Limo Pattaya. Once or twice, didn't find the driver right away, called the office and got a quick resolution. -
I'm booked on the continuation of BR68 on June 10. I think they showed availability every day that week.
