Only experience driving in Thailand in 74-75 was on base, but that was in a full size, left hand drive king cab pickup with a huge turning radius. Had one place where you had to make a 180 degree right hand turn. You'd look in the mirror and you could see the Thai taxi drivers thinking "Hey, I can slip past him to the right while he is swinging wide for the turn." As the visibility to the right side of the truck was crap, I always held my breadth as that truck would have crushed one of those taxis like a bug. Did see a taxi rear end a military pickup. Destroyed the front end of the taxi.

I got to Korea after a year in Thailand and two in the Philippines. On a two lane road, I see a bus pulling out to pass coming my direction. Being aware of the first rule of the road that he who has the bigger vehicle, has the right of way, I start to slow down and move to the right. The bus went past me fully in my lane while I was stopped on the shoulder. It's a bit scary to realize Americans are, comparatively, fairly good drivers. A Korean friend had her nephew stay with her in the U.S. while he was studying English. She tells me nephew doesn't like driving in the U.S. My reactio

That could have been a shocking experience. -
Took a walk to the Jomtien immigration office. As anticipated, one has go to Bangkok to do the initial retirement extension. Thought is was worth asking.

In my experience, they do not require prepayment.

I have used thelimopattaya.com for several years and have been quite happy with their service.

It's difficult to sustain a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity, but you have to think something was going on.

Since we don't have taste buds down there . . . Just saying.

There is this nagging thought that if demand goes down so will supply. -
True can be paid by online transfer through your Thai bank.

At least you didn't cite the laws of physics.

It's rather self evident that it is to have a cold drink on a hot day. Also, the stuff is almost undrinkable unless it is cold. I'll leave your other questions to my learned North American colleague as well as whether refrigeration is an acceptable substitute for ice. BTW I have drank beer with ice as well when the alternative was drinking 30C old school Singha.

Early this year, I think I was asked for my passport at an exchange booth which was not affiliated with a bank. It was in Pattaya. My sample size is small as I primarily rely on ATM cards.

That one doesn't work quite as well due to the drift in our common language but I get the idea. My father would deliver truly horrible puns with a completely straight face and after a few seconds my brother and I would both groan once the nickel dropped. We were jealous because neither of us inherited the talent.

I hadn't heard a pun that bad since before my dad passed and that was 36 years ago.

Earlier this year I learned there was an Honorary Thai Consulate in Portland, Oregon. http://www.thai-or.com/ It looks like they are only open mornings, Monday-Thursday. I sent my passport and latest application for a tourist visa to them last month. My package reached them on 24 November. I received my passport back via express mail, complete with new visa, on 26 November. According to their web site, they will do triple entry tourist visas. They can't issue retirement visas; you have to deal with Los Angeles or another regular consulate for that.

And assuming you are literal minded, I'll leave it at one.

Who knows, the girls might like it. An unfortunate turn of phrase, even at 300 baht a night.

There are legitimate researchers who pay stipends. I do have to admit to being a little surprised at the amount.
