  1. Which reminds me, did I overlook the announcement for the meet the reaper party last month?
  2. Okay, full disclosure, I don't routinely carry my passport or a copy. But if you are stopped by the police and your immigration status is an issue, how high a priority do you think it's going to be to take you back to your hotel to get your passport? You pay your money, you take your chances and, no, I'm not talking about tea money. My walking out the door kit does include my US drivers license, health insurance card and a high limit credit card. Any excursion may end in the emergency room. I've had it happen in Thailand.
  3. TL, if they really are checking immigration status, they're going to want to see your admission stamp and departure card, or at least a copy.
  4. North-south traffic is moving fairly well in that area, probably because all the people who have to turn right in that area are mucking around on side streets.
  5. Saw Dr. Srisuraj today about an eye infection. He addressed that and then mentioned the cataract repair which was done years ago in my left eye and the developing cataract in my right eye. The left eye which had the cataract repair has developed cloudy spots. The procedure to remedy that is nonsurgical and involves a laser. I had heard all of this before, same with the developing cataract in the right eye so no problem with the diagnosis. Then he mentioned the possibility of the multi-focal lens replacement for the right eye. He said he does not do that procedure. That's in accordanc
  6. The Limo Pattaya charges 800 baht. You get in and out of the fraction of the time it takes at Suvarnabhumi and with an even smaller fraction of the stress. If there is not a for hire taxi or minibus available, you are a mile or so off the highway inside a large military base. While I have high regard for the navy, I want to know I have a ride when I get off the plane.
  7. Appreciate the effort which went into the map, but other than seeing it will be further south than Central Festival, "Soi Made in Thailand" doesn't really help. If I exit LKM on Buakhao and turn left, how far before I get to WokNRok?
  8. You got it. Fraser's wifi works in News.
  9. I pre-book with http://www.thelimopattaya.com/.
  10. And how can you foreclose if you can't own the property?
  11. I live in the neighborhood and have eaten there twice. Once had beef stroganoff which was okay. Other time had a burger which was forgettable. I'll probably go back to change things up occasionally and the place is nicely set up. I doubt I would make a long treck to eat there.
  12. I would suggest my compatriots go to the floor which is below ground level. I doubt the folks at the Starbucks can register your Sim.
  13. From the baht bus around noon saw 30 or so westerners wearing naval uniforms in small groups in the general vicinity of the Marriott on second road. They definitely weren't U.S. and I doubt they were Commonwealth. I wasn't close enough to discern the lettering on their hat bands but the thought came to mind that they were Russians. EDIT-It seems a Russian squadron is in Sattahip. https://defencerussia.wordpress.com/2015/03/02/detachment-of-ships-of-the-russian-navy-is-on-visit-in-thailand/ As Joe would say, Google is your friend.
  14. Then again, I bought a condo in Washington state in early 2007 to live in but with the thought that I would turn a nice profit when I moved on. It bottomed out at about 45% of the purchase price. Fortunately, I didn't have to sell when I retired. I may be above water in a year or so; forget the equity.
  15. They have them in the U.S. and, in my experience, seem to work well. That includes the fingerprint scanner. The one in the photo didn't seem to include that feature. I think there is supposed to be an international standard for the machine readable identity info.
  16. Nothing from AIS with Telewiz in English. I had gone to the AIS Central Festival store a few weeks ago and registered my number. That was sufficient for my name to be associated with my number on the AIS eSercvice site. https://aiseservice.ais.co.th/eServiceWeb/ I have a number I can actually remember so I don't want to lose it.
  17. I had the fish and chips last night. It was listed as dory fish and was identifiability a piece of white fish rather than "parts is parts." It was moist, not greasy and the breading was not excessive. The chips were definitely French fries, although they weren't crinkle cut; you can't have everything. The vegetable was a bit of rather dry cole slaw. There were no peas mushy or otherwise. Thanks primarily to the fish I liked the meal and the price, 170 baht (I think), was right.
  18. There has been an uptick in the population of the condo the last few days, a lot of couples including several with younger kids. I won't say they couldn't be Russians or that none of them were Russians. However, given the number of blonds and square faces, I would guess many of them could be among my fifth cousins, i.e., German or Scandinavian. There are also three 20 something females together who seemed to be speaking North American English.
  19. Tricky part was figuring how many times I flew with each airline. Only record period at this time was from frequent flier accounts. Eva was quite good other than I had to search a year at a time. Korean Air provided some information. Whether I read it right was another matter. China Air did not have any helpful information.
