Antipodean for condo management fee??

Seat Guru has been significantly dumbed down. I think it coincided with a change in ownership.

Probably not news to the cognoscenti, but National Public Radio had an interesting and balanced piece on Tor and the dark web. http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2014/05/25/315821415/going-dark-the-internet-behind-the-internet One thing I didn't know was that Tor was invented by the U.S. Navy and was opened up to others so that the Navy's traffic would be unidentifiable in the mass of other messages.

I just saw it today. It finally made it to the overseas possessions. The movie was very intense and very good. I agree it was not close to realistic as to the condition of the POWs as a result of starvation and disease although there were a few suggestions of that. I don't know what the producers thinking was but it may have been that they couldn't be realistic without starving people. On the other hand, there were depictions of direct physical abuse/torture which were about as graphic as is possible without actually injuring somebody. I wonder if those may have been edited

US Embassy advises against "non-essential" travel to Thailand
nkped replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
That's a notch up. For the U.S. government travelers, it is probably mandatory although I don't know who gets to define essential. -

Brown Bear Eats Dog at Sitka Home POSTED: 05:07 PM AKDT May 13, 2014 ANCHORAGE - Alaska State Troopers say a Sitka homeowner fired on a brown bear after a dog at his residence was eaten by a bear Monday evening, with a brief search turning up no sign of the targeted animal. According to a Tuesday AST dispatch, Alaska Wildlife Troopers as well as Sitka police responded to the 5300 block of Halibut Point Road just after 6 p.m. Monday, after receiving reports that a brown bear had "killed and consumed a dog." "The bear left the area upon Sitka Police arriving on scene," troopers wrote. "

Where abouts in Jomtien? Like the clip, even without any background on the skit. I'm no so sure that it would flunk the PC test in the States, but that might be because the Pakistani community is less visible here.

Bad news for 30 day tourist visa exempt stamp holders
nkped replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
A reduction would seem likely. On the other hand, if the stock in trade is runs to Vientiane, business may be looking good. -
It was tail number PR536 that had me wondering, but, yes, it looks to be the variant of the Tempest without the air scoop.

Bad news for 30 day tourist visa exempt stamp holders

Rank speculation but perhaps there is a bunch extra paper work and the question of what to do with the body if immigration at a land border can't admit a foreigner. At an airport, you put them on the next plane burning back to the point of origination. At the land border, if you know the farang intend to just turn around and come back and if they can't be admitted to Thailand, that the Burmese won't let them back in, it could get awkward. Probably not a legal basis for not allowing departure, but perhaps Thai immigration is just being practical. -
I had been having the partial loading happening a lot with a variety of sites, including PT, using Chrome. Reloading the site once or twice usually works. Then I started having some sites not open at all with an error message saying (I think) "Bad site" and a second line I don't remember. Clearing cookies seemed to have made most of these problems go away for now.

As GP suggested would be the case, the docs here in the world were able to access the imagery on the disc without any apparent problem. -
I don't begrudge her the money, but I heard a similar safety brief from an SWA attendant over 20 years ago.

Haven't noticed the neighbors leaving the doors open being an issue. Having the senior citizens around the pool does make me feel young and skinny but makes for some really disturbing visuals as well. I have mentioned before the issue of elevator idiocy. However, they are predictable. If two elevators are descending, the senior hordes from east of the Elbe will pile on the first one to arrive even though the other one is on the second floor. Wait 20 seconds and you may have an elevator to yourself. I do agree about the size of the living space. For a three month stay, I am happy

Can't speak to the house alternative, but condos do have their benefits: Depending on the complex, a BIG pool; Retail outlets in the building such as mini marts, laundries and hair cutters among others; Places to eat when you are really unambitious. "long corridors of doors"--If that is a problem for you, it's a problem. I guess I figure that I don't live in the hallway and if I like my space, who cares how many other people are on the same floor. I do prefer a high floor for privacy, reduced noise and being above the mosquitoes. I do suspect the calculation might change depending on

International transfers (American Bank to Thai Bank)

"a UPS box" --store front operation with a UPS sign above the door offering UPS shipping, mail boxes, notary services (often) and a grab bag of other services. There are several of them in Anchorage and they were common in the Puget Sound area of Washington state as well. I have no idea whether they are the result of a buyout of Mailboxes etc. Yes, the boxes are rather small. The store I deal with has no problem holding the mail beyond the capacity of the box, but I haven't been gone longer than three months. Also, snow birds and other varieties of partial year residents are common in Al -
International transfers (American Bank to Thai Bank)

I have my mail forwarded to a UPS box during my LOS sojourns. When I picked up my 3 months of mail last week, the counter clerk said they could forward mail overseas for $40 a pop. She said that, at my request, they could open and scan specific items to email to me. When I submit the forwarding request to USPS to forward my mail to the UPS location, the USPS computer immediately recognizes the address as a commercial mail facility. I don't think you are going to fool anybody. BTW. Alaska doesn't have an income tax, but I own a house here. That might be a bit much for most people look -

BoA has no problem with sending the card to an address in Thailand? I notice that my one BoA credit card has a chip as well as the old magnetic strip. -

This article goes back to last year, but it looks like Thailand was on its way to an agreement for FATCA reporting. http://www.mazars.co.th/Home/Doing-Business-in-Thailand/Tax/FATCA-Thai-Cabinet-Approves-Draft Earlier, there was some definite concern about banks dumping U.S. customers. http://www.bangkokpost.com/print/329549/ The big stick, from the viewpoint of account holders, was 30% withholding on transfers to non-compliant institutions. -
Ah yes, the national airline of Texas. The line about the life vests on a Dallas to El Paso flight was that you could use it if you landed in somebody's jacuzzi in west Texas.
