  1. Maybe but wonder how they ended up in the grass if it was a collapsed nose gear.
  2. The unanticipated decision of two of my teeth to disintegrate yesterday led to a visit to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. The young woman who checked my BP and temperature might have been 1.47m and 40kg. This was also true of my dentist's assistant. Then when I was checking out 4 or 5 of the dental assistants were at the front desk and they were all in that range. You might think it was a job qualification, but heaven knows why.
  3. Oh my Tom, you must be bored but probably a legitimate topic anyway. As to your myth No. 1, never had a TG tell me she hated Thai men. Never had one tell me I was handsum man either. Long ago, it took some effort to talk the ex into leaving Thailand. To the extent, that a TG isn't just engaging in sweet mouth to engage the farang, perhaps just giving vent to universal complaints by women about men. Myth 2 2A--All issues will Thai police can be resolved with an unofficial donation. Okay I have seen speeding handled with an on the spot fine. On the other hand, we have seen accounts here of by the book dispositions including DUI resulting in a trip to the monkey house and court. The ex's teen-aged step-son was accused of being involved in an assault. The resulting process was extended and seemed to involve some concern for the young man's well-being. While I got a blow by blow of the process by long distance, there was nothing about delivery of a plain white envelope. I probably would have been hit it for the contents if there had been. 2B--Never call the police, they won't do anything and/or will jack you around. Don't recall any specific postings here by members of bad results after calling the police. On the other hand, recall a number of instances of members reporting interaction with the BIB and finding, to their surprise, that the police acted in an appropriate, professional manner.
  4. Had a friend who was working in a high-rise in the south part of Manhattan within sight of the twin towers on 9/11/01. He said that when the first plane hit, everyone rushed to the windows. When the second plane hit, everyone was running for the exits.
  5. If you are having pants made and you expect/want two rear pockets, you might want to mention that to the tailor. Had a suit made at a place more or less opposite the FLB a few years ago. It was made pretty well but the pants had only one rear pocket and it was on the wrong side to me. Don't know if that is a Europe/North America thing or not.
  6. The change in diet in Asia is more remarkable than that. Back in the day (74-75), there really wasn't such a thing as a tall TG. Plenty who were no more than 5 feet/1,52m. If you found one who was 5ft5in/1.65m, that was tall. Now you see 5ft9in/1.75m or even taller and born female. No expert, but I gather that indicates a lot more protein in the diet during childhood.
  7. I used to tell TGs I was from the United States. That consistently got a blank look so now it's American.
  8. Chili peppers also originated in the Americas.
  9. The first comment to the story on the newspaper's web site was "This is exactly why I always drive to Shanghai."
  10. From the local fish wrapper. http://www.adn.com/2013/08/20/3034324/womans-in-flight-antics-land-her.html Last time I remember this happening was 2001. Woman's in-flight antics land her in Anchorage jail after jet diverted Published: August 20, 2013 Read more here: http://www.adn.com/2013/08/20/3034324/womans-in-flight-antics-land-her.html#storylink=cpy A first-class passenger on a plane to Shanghai caused such a ruckus Sunday by screaming, cursing and disobeying flight attendants that the Boeing 777's pilot made an emergency stopover in Anchorage where the passenger was arrested, according to the charges against her. Stephanie Heizmann Auerbach, owner of Shanghai-based apparel and fashion company Stephanie & Co., remained jailed Tuesday at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center on federal charges of disrupting a flight. Two children traveling with Auerbach, 47, continued to Shanghai, where their father was to meet them, the charges say. . . . . "M.B.," a flight attendant, said she served Auerbach five glasses of white wine, and three passengers later told her that Auerbach had been "taking and consuming alcoholic beverages from the galley without the knowledge of the flight crew," the charges say. It became a problem when, as one passenger told the FBI agent later, Auerbach began walking up and down the aisle, yelling profanities and climbing over seats. She refused to sit down after a flight attendant asked her to go to her seat, A in Row 1, five different times. "Auerbach spilled alcohol on passenger A.J. and grabbed A.J.'s wrist to place a bracelet on A.J. (She) declined to wear the bracelet and asked Auerbach to leave her alone," the charges say. "In response, Auerbach swore at A.J. and demanded that a flight attendant give her A.J.'s name. A flight attendant intervened and returned Auerbach to Auerbach's assigned seat. Auerbach alarmed A.J. and it appeared to A.J. that Auerbach was attempting to gain access to the pilot." Another flight attendant gave Auerbach a written notice saying she had violated an order by a member of the flight crew regarding passenger safety. In response, Auerbach hit the flight attendant with the notice. Auerbach then approached the flight attendant, getting close to his or her face, and demanded off the flight. That's when the pilot, "W.R.," came out to talk to Auerbach "at length," the charges say. Delta's spokeswoman would not give the pilot's name. W.R. warned Auerbach and asked if she would follow the crew's instructions. She said no, and the pilot diverted the flight to Anchorage. "After landing at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Auerbach remained uncooperative," the charges say. Airport police had to board the plane to remove Auerbach, who was "physically combative," the charges say. They detained her, and she was eventually charged and arrested. . . . .
  11. Never encountered it with a US airline.
  12. A room above a bookstore in Pattaya down the street from a number of ago go bars. That's about as debauched as it gets.
  13. Have seen more than a few stop-action shots of pitchers where the throwing arm is at a 90 degree angle (or very close) to the horizontal so it is possible. NFL regular season games can end in ties, although they only have that happen every few years. College hockey games can end in ties if a 5 minute overtime does not result in a goal.
  14. Looks good, even with the mashed potatoes. No problem with baked beans although I'm still getting my head around the idea of eating them with breakfast. A boiled tomato on the other hand
  15. As the background suggests, it appears it is a promo for NBC Sports upcoming broadcast of Premier League games. Just saw it today on NBC. VicVegas will never go back to the US now.
  16. I'll take your word for it. Occasionally, Google will lead you astray. But are you suggesting the real thing would be visually more appealing than the really fine rueben sandwich which was posted earlier? Main reason I don't order bangers and mash in places it is on the menu isn't the bangers, it's the mash
  17. As opposed to bangers and mash

  19. My father, who went to his reward many years ago, was a grazer. One night, looking for something to snack on, he saw something that looked like sandwich spread or, for that matter sprapple, in a plastic container in the refrigerator and stuck a finger in to get a taste. The taste wasn't appealing and he voiced his dismay; at that point my mother checked to be sure and informed him he had just sampled cat food.
  20. Do we really want to go there--Blue painted picts and all that? If we do, we will have difficulty feeling superior to the people in the Balkans squabbling about what happened 600 years ago or the folks in the Middle East feeling aggrieved about the Crusades.
  21. Don't believe everything you see on the internet.
  22. That makes for a really alarming visual.
  23. As to no one else eats, perhaps chili dogs--hell, I don't eat them. For something we may have invented or at least disseminated widely, how about barbecue?
  24. Long ago (mid-70s) and far away, I think there was a San Miguel Negra in the Philippines but never felt the need to try it as long as Pale Pilsner aka, the real thing was available. I've seen the painted domestic label in Guam but not otherwise outside the RP
