  1. One of the local tv programmes mentioned that the maximum metered fare for a 2 kilometre trip is 60 Baht! If that is correct, then there is no wonder they refuse to use the meters!
  2. I used to use "Ours" agents (London based) yonks ago for EVA and China Air; They were the best deal for the Taiwan airlines back then, and were the "bucket shop" for EVA. Not sure if they are still in business neilri2000, but they would be worth trying if they are.Edit in: Just checked and they are still in business, but EVA Biz class is £2092. China Airline (not direct obviously as they are always via Schipol) is quoted at a fairly remarkable £1240 for Biz tho'! http://www.ourstravel.com/node/47
  3. Probably on the same basis as in the UK where the Brewers , bars or both, for example, hide their own price hoik, behind a much publicised rise in duty.
  4. The "headline" advert for my particular flight was £2700 return from Glasgow 1st Class. Initial comeback to me was for about £3400 which I declined as it "was way too far from the advertised rate". (Still lower than anywhere else tho', and I would probably have reverted to that eventually.) They immediately came back with the original quote, and I finally ended up paying £2800 as I don't like the 0130 departure BKK. The Emirates website price remained £4600 throughout, and never reduced up to my outward flight date. I think you probably have to be prepared to haggle with all of these 3rd party
  5. I just received this mailshot from "Flight Centre" ( I used them for my last UK-BKK flights with no problems). Some of the Biz class fares offered from around the UK look quite good value. Nothing exceptional in 1st this time and Premium Economy doesn't seem great, although I am not "au fait" with thenormal fares for that class. http://www.flightcentre.co.uk/first-and-business/search?destination=Bangkok&flight_class=Business%20Class
  6. Did the Uber cab thing ever start up in Thailand, outside of Bangkok?
  7. The stuff I liked (I think it was an Anchor "breezeblock") was sold "loose" on the deli counter, but I hadn't realised that they have just re-located, so I'll check out the Tukom location.
  8. Let's not forget the "fabled" Beach Road/Sai 2 Bus service too!
  9. Any suggestions for the best supermarket for Brit. style Cheddar cheese ("mousetrap") nowadays? I always used to use Tops, but that option is gone nowadays.
  10. When that title came up in a quiz many years back, I thought they were taking the piss! Betty Grable
  11. The Ireland v Wales result (and just the result) is a bit of a disappointment. Being a bit of a "traditionalist" where rugby is concerned the 6 Nations is all about the "Grand Slam" and "Triple Crown" in my mind, with scant regard to the "league" placings. Unfortunately a draw just leaves England & France up for the Slam, and only England for the Triple Crown. It was nice to see England play 2 of the Front Row starters for nearly all of the match. I don't much like the disruption to the flow of a game with the wholesale change of Front Row that seems normal between 50-60 minutes nowadays.
  12. To be honest I am finding that the queues in the premium fast track immigration are starting to resemble what was happening at normal immigration a while back. Probably due to the advent of the "purchasable" fast track pass. Maybe they will be opening up a third level sometime in the future, should the more vociferous premium class travellers start complaining. Having said that, my most recent arrival on a Sunday, had the wheels hitting the tarmac at 1210, and despite the delay at immigration, I was still in Pattaya (Dolphin quasi-roundabout) by 1420.
  13. What on earth is a baja burger made of?....... Finest dry-aged Japanese imported wagyu beef ?!?
  14. Sorry- tied up with family commitments tonight, although I hope to break away to a TV for the match if sober enough! The I-Rovers is normally a good venue for the rugby though. Another statistic is that prior to Lancaster in his interim period; Johnson, Ashton and Robinson all lost their first games at Murrayfield against the Scrotes! The money is on England by 6-10, but I'm not confident, post what I saw at the World Cup.
  15. It's a bit of a shame, but none of the bulletins have really laid into the "laughing stock" aspect, and only the public feedback at the bottom of the written articles tend to highlight it. The Thai Visa TV bulletin even went as far as to suggest that foreigners should not play any card games at all whilst in Thailand! Self preservation, for the local media I suppose, in these days of intrusive censorship!
  16. Well, at least he has got the "backs" selection about right IMHO. Lancaster was being "ruled" by the defensive coaches in the WC. Edit in: ....and I'm with the mad Canuck here....., Doh or no Doh, that avatar is f***ing disgusting!!!!!
  17. I've a nasty feeling that England might just end up "with a bloody nose" tomorrow night.
  18. Unless the other 2 (I've discounted Arsenal I'm afraid) can shake themselves clear of City before the last few weeks, I too think the inevitable will happen. Although I cannot see City winning the Champions league "in a month of Sundays", the irony of disposing of Pellagrini, should they end up winning all 4 competitions, would be there for all to mock!
  19. I would say that is most likely the case. If it was one, his future might also be in jeopardy, if they know his ID.
