  1. Just an aside Ularu, but do you know if they still have Manhattans as part of their portfolio.
  2. If you fly in the premium class cabins, the savings could be significant and maybe worth the detour, not so much for economy. However there is a bit of a smoke screen going on though, as all 3 of the major airlines, for Thailand (Emirates, Etihad & Qatar) charge more from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, than from English departure points. Not sure about Turkish.
  3. Well in defence of the more expensive carveries around the bazaars, most of them do include a lot more expensive products, including the very pricey "roast lamb", than the fare available here at Akvavit in their buffet.
  4. Awful movie, but it did have....Lucy Liu
  5. Looks good Gabor. BTW normally the onion bhahjis would be eaten as a "starter", with the curry and rice as a main; but what the hell, who cares! I always eat things in the order that I like; although I do sometimes show exasparation when the "missus" orders up and eats ice cream halfway through a meal!!
  6. I'm just guessing Kev, but I think that the Crab would be reasonably sheltered by the Apex. The problem with the Sandy Spring is that those sea view rooms are directly facing the place and unobstructed. Apparently you can almost look inside Hooters through the open roof, from the upper floors.
  7. Also, I don't see Benitez as a "saviour" type of manager. Very "tactical", but not really known as a great motivator. However, if he does stay after relegation (can't see that happening myself), then they do have a good manager, given the finances, for the first time in many, many years. They have gone through 9 mediocre to "kit bagman" level ones since Sir Bobby Robson, at an average of 1/year! Could well end up as a one-on-one with Fat Sam at Sunderland to stay up..... I know which one I would have my money on!
  8. I was in Nang Nual a few days ago, and the Oysters were 125 Baht each there, so the price quoted including plonk, is in relativity not too bad. It seems that Oysters and the Rock Lobsters that I like, have joined the likes of large prawns for big price hoiks recently.Strange how Oysters changed from "peasant food" of the 19th century, to be bunged in meat pies to flesh out the absence of more expensive meats and other pauper dishes, to the status that they have today!
  9. I would imagine so, the Soi 13 facing (slightly cheaper) rooms should be Ok, for both noise sources.
  10. Beetlejuice Edit ; Oops just checked for repeats. Delete that and I'll try Mermaids
  11. I know a lot of BMs stay in this hotel, and this is just a "relayed" warning from a very good friend of mine staying at SS at the moment, who MAY find this sort of thing important. There are currently 2 noise problems with the hotel affecting the "Seaview rooms". One (which is temporary) is a bit of construction racket going on in the Whitedel condo next door, involving the normal grinding "screech" and chipping type noises; but they are reasonably considerate with this, and times seem to be restricted to between 1200 and 1800. This has been going on for a few weeks now. The second one will no
  12. Apple actively take down these clips, especially Magical Mystery Tour stuff, which I believe is the only time the Beatles "sort of" performed it. Dailymotion has the full film available and the song lies between 25.00 and 30.00 if anyone knows how to crop and present these things.http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x27ybd8_magical-mystery-tour-1967_shortfilms Not the same I know, but the Oasis (2002) cover is pretty damn good too.
  13. Desperately trying to remember the actor's name playing Stan his partner but can't so...... Harrison Ford
  14. Good looking fare! I wimp out on the raw shrimp though! Have tried it, but it just doesn't "agree" with my retch impulses, for some unfathomable reason!
  15. With all meats I would say Gary. Certainly any roast joint "on the bone" beats the de-boned rolled joints hands down for taste.
  16. And one final retort. No, none of them are friends or even acquaintances of mine. I have been aware of the manager for just about as long as I have been visiting the establishment (not frequent), his movements and actions around the bar are self-evident. I did profer a complaint to him a few years back, about the removal of what was a very good "Prawn Salad" from the menu, and his explanation was apologetic, pleasant and ultimately for good reason, and we have been on "silent nodding terms" since then. My thoughts and sentiments have nothing to do with personal battles, and as far as I know,
  17. I've no idea! I have never been a member of any forum other than this one and a couple of long defunct ones which started up before Pete invited us to join here. However, it is good to see I am not alone in disliking deliberate attempts to unnecessarily besmirch the local eateries; the hardest of the services to suceed in, and also the most prone when it comes to thoughtless reporting. A problematic situation with regards to the masses on Tripadvisor/Facebook etc, but one would have wished for a bit more decorum from a supposedly "Pattaya wise" forum. The fact that it has gone out to multiple
  18. Enough said indeed.......by yourself in every post so far!
  19. No but......A"bloke I know from a bar", and occasional pushbike user, was regaling us a few days ago; Alledgedly one, spotting a "ting tong farang", tried to "milk him" for not wearing a helmet! Obviously he didn't cough up. (Again alledgedly!)
  20. On the assumption that it doesn't star "Chesty Morgan" Ray Winstone
