  1. From my limited knowledge gained from driving up it a few times, its dark, smelly and full of ladyboys who try and stop you even whilst you are driving your motorbike.
  2. If you cant afford to be out of your own country for more than the 2 weeks of your holiday then surely you should have saved the money for more important things.I don't think its the welfare states fault, just stupid people living beyond their means.
  3. Is this a dating thread,or is this a real woman wanting to share accomodation in Pattaya advertising on a mongers board? I don't think so.
  4. And the point of this post is? I know that inflation is a pernicious problem for people on a fixed income ,but If your imaginary man does live for 40 years then no matter where he lives he will still have the same income and inflation. The point surely is that with that income he would still be better of now in LOS and as he would need less than if he lived in the UK or USA then he would be able to save some of his (to you)small income and invest it to offset the inflation ,he would still be better of in LOS than if he lived in either UK or USA. As I said before you should not assume that what you spend to live in LOS, is what others need to spend to live in LOS because that is just not true. From your point of view your costs are X so everyone else must spend this to have a decent lifestyle, wrong 100%.Everyone lives their lives in differing ways and not all of that difference is down to money but a lot of it is ,What is really different is the fact that some (like me ) have never had a large income so are expecting less in any case, that is just a fact of life.Speak in large amounts and large numbers of people will only switch of as you sound like a stupid politician who know nothing of real life and how it is lived by "normal" people, people like my mother who died aged 73 and left the grand sum of £12000 as her life savings ,she actually thought of herself as better off than most of her family as she had no "DEBTS". Now I am not as badly off as her but I have no notion of the amounts of money that you seem to think of as "necessary"and whilst I do not think of myself as better of than most of my family I do feel that no one in my extended family has the sort of money that you seem to think is normal and I only personally know 2 or maybe 3 guys who could raise that sort of money and I have a great many friends and acquaintances. So whilst I might agree that your figures are right ,as far as they go,I don't think you have any real knowledge of the real world and how "normal" people manage to live in it.
  5. There is one place in Soi Arunthai that advertises a fan room for 180 Baht (or did last year)but it looks like a vermin infested joint to me.
  6. That will be the Dettol then.I once many years ago asked a "friend" what to do about my erupting skin,he said have a bath with some Dettol in it.I did as he suggested and bought a small ,really quite small, bottle of Dettol and put it in the bathwater only to find that I felt as if my whole body was on fire from too large a dose of Dettol.I jumped out of the bath I had only minutes before entered and started to shower with cold water to try and get some relief.Suffice to say when I told my "friend " he laughed his bollocks off and "then" said your only supposed to put a small capful in a bath otherwise you will get a chemical burn.I can say from bitter experience that it will hurt for days ,you will itch for a lot longer and the skin on your bollocks is definitely coming off. Mind you on thinking back, it did clear up the spots.
  7. The best thing you can do is take the time to read the posts in this section .That will give you a starting point to ask about specific places otherwise you will get many and conflicting posts about places you cant afford ,or dont want to pay. There are far to many places all at differing prices to advise you, unless you get specific on costs, facilities, and areas wanted/not wanted .
  8. If the cost is no more ,then yes I would use it ,if it cost more then no.The trip from BKK is not all that much different and unless things have changed I do believe the taxi costs are comparable from both airports.
  9. I don't know what the future will bring as far as inflation is concerned, and to be honest as a working man with a job I used to do quite well out of inflation as I had no savings but the price of my house shot through the roof, but I think the guy had savings as well as a pension. He could always save his lump sum in long term ISAs (4.5 - 5%over 4 - 5years)and that would help to defray any reasonable inflation.or he may even have an inflation linked pension ,I know many do. But to give my real opinion I would give it a go if thats what he wants ,be careful not to spend up everything and always give himself a back door home if things go wrong, just like I would no matter where I was to retire. I should also admit that over the last few days I have decided not to go on holiday(to Pattaya) this year due to the falling pound and some unexpected costs I have to pay at home,(new shower and Boiler)so I am failing to follow my own advice but the holiday money needs to be spent a little more wisely this year.
  10. [ It is ludicrous to suggest that you can do that on 12k or 14k a week. How ludicrous is it when many expats I know do it quite happily. You may need a car,a house and you may be able to afford it, others cant, that does not stop them enjoying the life they have rather than worrying about the life that is out of their reach. There is much to recommend life in Pattaya,to all people of all financial states. If you don't want guys with no money clogging up your wonderful holiday town say so, don't tell tales about how expensive it is for everyone when its really cheap, if you want ,and need it to be. I understand you have some sort of financial backround and know the facts and figures of retirement but, your figures are pie in the sky to most of the guys I know and as I said in a previous post in answer to you ,the ammonts that you quote for lump sums to enable people to live in Pattaya are quite often higher than most guys total life time earnings, they are definately higher than my life time(35 years working) earnings.
  11. Of course I am Scottish but, I have lived 41 of my 58 years in either London or Essex so I Think of myself as British. But I am still skint no matter where I am from.
  12. Just to add another two penceworth,I have an annual income less than the OPs pension and I manage 2-3 months a year in Pattaya as well as funding my ,yes its frugal, life in the UK.I neither smoke or drink (so little it counts the same) though I spend many nights in bars I drink only Diet coke so the cost is minimal.I feel that too many are being put off by those of you who have greater expectations of life than many who live like I do.If I had more I would spend more but, I have what I have, just like the OP and his income in my estimation, would let him live much better in Pattaya than it would in the UK.
  13. Wont he also get his state Pension ? That, whilst not a lot on its own, would make up the difference. I think you could live quite well in Pattaya ,but there is the medical insurance to take into consideration.
  14. Strangely I spend the summers in Pattaya ,anything from 2 to 4 1/2 months each year, hopefully 3 months this year May,June,July, and the rest of the year I live at home in the UK.
  15. And the American government has never assisted American companies?. I have no wish to enter a debate on a subject I know very little about (technically speacking) and I wont but. governments are there to assist their own citizens and that is just a fact of both life and politics.
  16. Hopefully I will call in when I am next in town.Good luck .
  17. In answer to the OP I would not wish to live in Pattay permanently.I would however not mind staying 4-5 months a year and still live in the UK for the rest of the time.Might not suit everyone but I think it would suit me.
  18. On further research ,I looked again when you asked for the web address,It seem the place I read about was the SC apartments Piyada. So not what was asked about after all.Sorry for any misinformation,I will try harder next time.
  19. I had a look for the web site of sc apartments and it led me to a place that's on Soi 17, not soi excite.Soi 17 is in the hinterland of pattaya and your own transport would be needed if you stayed there.I know soi excite quite well and I cant remember any sc apartments, though there are some apartments that have no visible name but, those all seem to be for thais or at least long term Falangs.
  20. If these companies spent less time in courts worrying about who pays for what ,they could use all their energies making better and cheaper Airplanes.
  21. I do hope it is just a slip on your part but, at 5000baht a week thats actually more than the daily rate. I was quoted 13500 baht a month ,but they could not give me all the time I needed as they were booked.
  22. Another one bites the dust.
  23. I would say that a 3% dissatisfied rate was poor. I don't know all the facts but I do know that the longer you keep saying that it is not your fault the less I am willing to believe you. Let it go ,forget it ,as you are just prolonging the agony and making a poor situation worse .Just my my opinion.
  24. That will be standard fare in all the hockey rinks up and down the UK by this weekend. When I saw it I immediately posted it on my own teams as well as the largest Hockey forum in the UK.
