  1. Check with SFdude I think he stayed at the new sabaii wing in september.
  2. If you are up for a diversion. United is flying to sinapore from ORD and SFO for $700. many days available. From there you can catch an asia air flight for about 150 round trip. Only problem is that flying in you et inot singapore at 23:50. Too late to get an air asia flight meaning you have to stay over in sinapore for 1 night.
  3. Many Pattay hotel are booking up for the next couple months. The Hard Rock is already sold out for several days between now and New years including Nov 21, and nov 22. Go figure. Same for some other hotels.
  4. So what do you think. Where do the thais go to live? Hint the number is over 200,000.
  5. The bankruptcy of the airlines is affecting flights from 2nd tier cities. i.e. minneapolis. the airlines are cutting out alot of their feeder flights and no longer subsidizing the cost of the the flights on their feeder airlines. This mean less competition for Northwest ergo higher fares. I was checking some flights today and found $440 total cost to tokyo, $400 total cost to London, $700 total cost to singapore. All on United from SFO. So it depends alot on your departure city.
  6. I audited several of the oil companies. In Northern Ca United owns a major4 tank farm at one of the refineries. Each Tank holding something like 200,000 barrel of jet fuel. But they use alot every day.
  7. Different machines have different individual transaction limits. I have a card with $1000 us daily limit. I have found that some ATMs limited me to 10,000 baht withdrawal others 20,000 baht. Of course I could then process another transaction until I reached my daily limit. But each transaction has a fixed service charge.
  8. Try using travelocity. i just searched for one way BKK to SFO and found several prices of $440 to $500. Almost every day was available.
  9. I shopped for a diamond for my wife in LOS. I finally told her that they want to much in LOS. I didn't feel like hasseling with jewelry store in LOS. We tried at a couple of places but after 30 40 minutes of bargaining we walked out. I can get better/bigger diamonds with known quality here in the US for 30 -50 percent less that the lowest price I could get a store to go in LOS. I bought her a nice 5000 baht gold ring. She is very happy with that. and told her I would get her a nice diamond later. Maybe if I spoke better thai and was willing to really duke it out I could get a good deal in LOS.
  10. Eric, Not that i can think off. sometimes word like Lift can confuse a yank. But words you have given are one that were made up. I thought that in Brit just like US people like TV reports are always trying to turn a new catchy phrase. Thats were jargon gets in the Us language.
  11. From everone I know - cyber covered the 3 best contenders. but ever once in a while thai air(surprise!) runs a special to sinapore.the cheapest roundtrip fare I have seen them offer was 900 baht. But it seems to be ifferent evertime I check their website sometimes cheap or sometimes 4500 baht. Sale seem to come and go frequently on their asia routes.
  12. cybers, most certainly correct you are. But they only way I leave LOS is by plane. I suppose if I was to stay at udon thani then a run to the border would be appropriate. But i got the impresion the question was from someone that wanted to come to LOS then leave and come back more than once in a 90 day period. If that is the case a tourist visa seems a little pointless. But you have a thai wife. What type of visa do you get??
  13. Transit visa 30 days or less. Cost zero Tourist visa 60 days or less. Cost I am not sure. either one you pay 500 baht to exit the country every time you leave. If you have a transit visa and leave on day 29 then come back next day they will give you another transit visa. So why would anyone want a multiple entry tourist visa??
  14. ajweiss1, As long as he is flying out after Jan 15 he should have no problem finding a fare. his problem might be he is only choosing flying on a out on a saturday and returning on a sunday. Since EVA fly out of SFO at 0140 that flight leaving on a friday morning and then returning on a Monday might do the trick. If he is leaving from SMF I would suggest just straight booking out of SFO. I used to live in SMF and for international flights I had a variety of tricks to get to the SFO airport on the cheap. If he wants detailed info pm me and I will send you my email. I give him the full rundo
  15. IMHO why waste the time with that site. Why not go to travelocity to start with? That is the search engine the site uses.
  16. I don't know. i have tried Orbitz several times. It has never been even close to competetive. Maybe becuase i am flying from SFO and United is very competetive from SFO and ORD. Flying from Dallas travelocity had the best rates. I think it would be a toss up to me. A direct flight from DFW to TKY with an econ window seat. Or flying SWA to LAX to catch EVA in delux to Tapei. The SWA to Lax would require you to leave at like 18:00 on a wed to catch a thur 01:30 flight at LAX on EVA that arrives BKK at 11:30 on friday. The AA flight would leave DFW at 10:00 WED and arrive BKK 2030 thursday
  17. Okay i take it back. I tried out my fav method using american out of DFW to bkk. American's website will not give a price of less than $1000 even when travelocity is selling tickets for 798 with all taxes for the same days. I got right up to the buy my ticket on travelocity. But the good trip from dfw is using travelocity. It will route you on AA direct flight from DFW to Tokyo, there on thai to BKK. Leave dfw 10 AM arrice BKK 10 pm next day. No suffling around in the US. But AA has got DFW locked up so ther is no easy way out of DFW without either using AA or routing to some other american c
  18. Forever, Eva is a good bet. If you want to check out other possible deals here is how I do it. I am a member of travelocity. (It’s free, don't bother to upgrade to a paid membership) I log in. Search for trips using flexible departure dates. I pick the months or 2-month period I want to fly. Select it to search for only one airline. Usually united as I fly out of San Francisco. I would suggest American for you since you will be out of Dallas. Using the fare prices on travelocity I search departure dates to find what days cheap fares are available. When I have acceptable days I write them do
  19. Thai has frequently advertised nonstops to Bkk from LAX. Everytime I check they only have connections via Japan. So I belive nonstops on thai form east coast when I see it. United hasplan to eventually reduce the 747 fleet substantially. But for the forseeable future the west coast will probably be served by 747s. If flying out of Chicago direct flights to china, singapore, hong Kong and osaka on 777s will become the norm. From there it is an easy connect to BKK. On singapore I really like the vidoe entertainment. osmethinh like 40 movies on demand plus TV plus ninteno etc.
  20. 1500 baht for car service is about right. Some fancy service want 2500 baht and some private drivers will go for 1000. Both Hawk and i have some numbers for drivers if you wind up in a pinch. My favorite is a guy named "Him" When most people would see 2 lanes he sees 5. Left lane, right lane, lane on the center line between the semi and the car, right shoulder, left shoulder/sidewalk. as for his driving style my girls says ' i sacred to ride with Him :crying . he old man if he die bo bin yang dou, I young I want live" But he has gotten me thru some of the worst bangkok traffic you can imagine.
  21. Check out the montien. They are not monger friendly and it is a very nice property. You will find Farang with thai wives and I think they have childrens facilities but check with them.
  22. BigD, I don't think new batteries will help. Roland must be on some serious medication if he thinks he wa listening to rock and roll at FLB.
  23. If anyone in the US would like a brochure PM me with your mailing address. You can just use your screen name if you like. I will cover postage. limited to the first 24 people that ask. I recently stayed at the swiss grottino hotel in bangkok. 1500 baht including all taxes. Very nice place. Many post about it on Bangkoktonight. I picked up about 24 of the hotels brochures that includes pictures etc. Excellent location suk at soi 19. by country roads 1 block from soi cowboy, down the road from nana plaza.
  24. Royal Princess, right in the heart of town, good breakfast, girl friendly, nice pool. 2000 baht a night from directrooms.com
