winter rate are already posted for many hotels. The good place to go this year just might be phuket. Their booking for december are way down. Normaly they charge 2 time normal rate for xmas. If you book now you pay haf of normaly rate or even less. As they get more bookings they will undoubtably raise the rates.

Those results looked AFU. I have flown singapore, and thai. Singapore is definately one of the best but thai has a long way to go. I would rate eva, united, and several others ahead of thai.

Joe, is sunbeam not bg friendly? It is in the middle of all those new bars on soi 7. I have never stayed there but on my last trip I was at flipper. When I opened my laptop it showed that I had a wifi connection to sunbeam. I went over to sunbeam and asked about wifi rates. they said 100 baht per hour. I looked the place over and it seemed pretty nice. BTW i mentioned sunbeam's wifi to Ben and he said the residence gardens now had wifi. has anyone used RG's wifi?

Try sabai lodge. you will discover alot more of pattaya on your firswt trip if you stay there. nice place and you can easily be under 1500 baht. If you want a nice place with wireless internet access try sunbeam hotel between soi 7 ann soi 8.

I have stayed at the majestic grande several times. I bought the prepaid book that allows you to stay for 10 nights for 20,000 baht. The coupons are good until 2007. when you stay using the coupons you don't get the breakfast but the last we went to breakfast and paid and my wife thought the thai food sucked. I found the wireless service to be terrible. on many floors it does not work and it went down completely for about 65 of the 72 hours I was there one trip. The a/c in my room on the first stay failed to work. Assholes would not move us and didn't get it fixed for 2 days. Complaining to the staff is absolutely useless. They will not fix any problem. On my last trip security stopped my wife. They proceeded to tell us bar girls were not allowed in the hotel. This followed by a 5 minute conversation where I told them we were married and they all but accussed us of lying. Finally they let us get on the elevator. My last 2 times there the place was crawling with arabs. They are complete assholes and hearing them beat their wives, concubines, whatever when you walked down the hall was always a treat. the place does have good parking and the bell staff was very good. I know the owners and they are nice guys. I wasn't going to make any posts but after this last stay i didn't want anyone else to have to suffer the crap I went thru. I intend to talk to them next trip.

Maybe he was talking about singapore airlines SA. General rules are if you are say a united premier exec gold you can use the lounge of the star alliance carrier you are flying or the united lounge. If you are flying united you can only use the united lounge if there is one available. Sinapore's lounge in Hong kong is pretty nice. to use a star alliance lounge you must either be a gold member or above on an international ticket. A red carpet club member or be flying in business or first.

Hawk and i went into the new sabai lodge on july 6th. We took a tour of the standard and delux rooms. rack rate was 1350 and 1650 baht but we were told that if we paid in aqdvance 1100 and 1400 would apply and that if we wanted to stay for a week or more further discounts depending on vacancies. The rooms are very nice. We were staying at flipper new wing (what a joke) and were paying 900 baht for a delux room. The new sabai lodge was on par in quality to the sandy springs.

I have noticed the same thing. RDtrip airfare on thai BKK NY-BKK is alot less than NYC-BKK-NYC. Same for many other airlines.

Lemons, in all but the most rare cases parties are open to all. bottles of tequila cost 1800 baht each. ringing the bell on a party night can cost an easy 5000-7000 baht. ringing the bell early is cheaper becuase there are fewer punters on board. july is also cheaper becuase Bg count will be down maybe 35 girls. biz is slower so a lot of girls go home to village etc etc. add in the service staff (i usually do) and the drink count just for employees can reach 50. I always buy drinks for the service staff that's why I am a hansum man. LOL.
-
Lemons, I will see you at the party at flb on the 5th. If you get there early like by 6:30 and buy 2 bottles of tequila for the girls then I will ring the bell.

Tall order for Accomodations
cowboy replied to mroutcall's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I stayed at marriot in April 2004 and there was no joiner fees. They even gave me 2 room cards. Girl ordered room service and they didn't blink even though she was not on the registration. I don't kmow if it becuase I always book the rooms for 2 people but I have not had a problem with either marriot or hard rock. -

Sandy Springs doesn't have a room safe but otherwise for 1900baht if you have a membership card (500) and you have a very nice 2 room suite. Residence gardens is all suites but the bed are queen size and the bedroom fairly small while the SS has large bedrooms and large living rooms. -
many times you wil find that places like nana majestic are booked. I tried walkup one saturday night at around 5 p.m. I had a car so I worked my way down nana soi. nana was full, sme for majestic, dynasty, worburi, etc. etc. finally at the end of the soi nana tha mansions had rooms but not cheap. 1200 baht and the rooms though big were pretty seedy. st to book in advance you will get a better rate and are more likely ot gte the hotal you want.

I have been looking to bokk for July. Price are through the roof. I have been quoted as high as $4600 for coach. BUTTT price for august are low plenty of $750 -900 fares around.
-
It is in an excellant location, unless you are really drunk Lolitas is crawling distance away.
-
I have been looking to travel from mid of june to early july. United doesn't have any seats.(except for $2000 and up, on one the coach flight came back as $4600) United is are from sfo to tky but full from tky to bkk. many of the thai flights were sold out in economy and eva has whole planes sold out every class. no cheap fares until august. bummer

siam, hard rock or somewhere else?
cowboy replied to thai style's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I am not sure about the joiner fee some people talk about. I have stayed at hard rock 3 times in the last 4 years. never was charged a joiner. never asked for Id from any girl. Maybe it makes a difference that I always booked directly with the hotel and made a reservation for 2 people. each time they would give me 2 keys for rooms but never asked me for 2nd name on registration. My most recent time was April 18-22 of this year. I took a bunch of pictures and if I can ever get pictures to post I will put them on the board. So far each time I try it fails. -
There is some property I am looking at outside Khorat. they are asking 200,000 baht for 18 rai. I offered 20,000 baht for 2 wai for the property next to my in laws house. I was just going to add it to theirs to make in a little bigger. (The have 1 rai.) Now suddenly she says she doesn't want to sell it after all. My wife's sister says that becuase the woman knows their is a new farang in the family. (I am the 3rd) the woman is just seeing if we will up the price. I have no idea if any of those prices are typical, high or low. I will ask one of my farang cousins in laws that built a 3200 sq ft house on some property down the road. He has been living in Khorat for more than 3 years, he should have an idea.

One of my Bud's mother work for starwood. He get a pass that lets him stay at really good rates. His mom would probably cardiac if she knew he was using them to whoremonger. I am sure he will add the pattaya to his list since the sheraton in bkk is one of his favorites. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will start showing up on priceline. I have gotten both the sheraton and westin in BKK for as low as $65 a night. I watched the 2004 superbowl at the westin BKK whilst eating breakfast.

here is where those FF miles can really pay off. 40K miles gets from tokyo to BKK on any star alliance partner. That includes thai which has a ton of flights every day. When i have looked for fares from tokyo to bkk iI have often found it difficult to find a fars of less than 800 and sometime 1200.

I have had hotels ask for CC info online. In every case they did not have a secure website so I emailed them I wanted the reservation but did not want to send Credit information over an unsecure site. Every hotel that I did that with gave me a reservation without CC.

Areca Lodge all booked out!
cowboy replied to thai style's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I just stayed in pattya april 15- may 3. For second part of the trip I checked into Sandy springs for 5 days. The day I got there I got the last rom a suite. Over the next 5 days i heard them repeatly tell people ther was no rooms. The second day freind came to pattya and wanted to stay at sandy springs with us. No rooms so the went to dynasty which told them it was their last room. The next day some more friends showed up. Sandy full, dynasty full, Lek hotel full, AA had a room. Now this was for april after songran so it is not a particularly busy time. My point is that if you want a specific hotel better to check as far in advance as possible. Especially if it is a small hotel. If you are traveling during high season you can spend a lot of time trying to find a room if you have a certain standard/ or price you are trying to find. -

siam, hard rock or somewhere else?
cowboy replied to thai style's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I stayed at hard rock and sandy springs last month. Stayed at hard rock for songran. Booked my room directly wth them for 3200 baht a night including breakfast. I stayed there becuase I could go outside and wander around without getting plastered with water and paste.(at least noit until I walked off the property) The pool is the best in pattaya and they have a great gym. As soon as I have time I an going to post a complete hotel review. Definately guest friendly. one morning there was maybe 9 punters and their girls eating breakfast. Sandy springs was 1990 baht 9with membership card) for a suite that faced the construction site. There was some noise on 3 out of 5 morning but it was only bad 1 morning. Very nice room and great parking. Both are easy to get to big c , tops, and walking street. -
In BKK NANA hotel. they use latex mattresses. Very comfortable.
