  1. Ruen Thai sounds interesting, I'll check it out. THIS is what I call an Irish Coffee: The Guiness Book of World Record's largest Irish Coffee. From the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco, which serves about 2,000 a day (mostly 6 ounce glasses), and where I discovered this exhilarating elixir.
  2. I really admire the Irish, they'll put whiskey in anything. So, whenever I need a break from crawling the GoGos I like to 'sober up' with an Irish Coffee at King's Cafe, across from the Ice Bar. It's a good spot for people watching, and you can peer up at the Eastern European girls on the Moulin Rouge preview stage next door. I've never been inside, so it's interesting to watch customers walking up and down the stairs, and note how long they stay. Your Irish Coffee is prepared table-side at King's Cafe. Igniting the flame temporarily attracts the attention of hoards of Walking Street strollers, away from the Michael Jackson impersonator, as they're wondering along like zombies with motion camera turned on, usually fixed on the Moulin Rouge stage girls. Do they bother to watch these when they get home? After the inside of your mug is coated with whiskey, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar are evenly distributed inside the glass and heated with the flame. Add the coffee, topped off with a delightfully gooey layer of unwhipped cream. Finally, the whiskey is lit and poured over the top like a lava flow. Be careful the flame has expired before raising the glass to your lips. 200 baht, plus 10% service charge, maybe the most expensive Irish Coffee in town (unless it's served at Moulin Rouge). Used to order at 19th hole, for 150, but is no more. Also, Cafe Patani on Soi Buakhao. Irish Coffee 'purists' may complain about the use of whipped cream, but good value for 130. Where else can I get a good Irish Coffee? Irish Coffee, it's not just for breakfast anymore!
  3. I one I use want 3 month minimum. I've heard some good reviews of this one, but I haven't used them personally http://dancewatchers.com/
  4. Rent a condo for a month. Much more cost effective than a hotel.
  5. One place on Oahu I really enjoyed was Kailua, off the usual tourist path. There's a beautiful beach there, particularly good for wind surfing, that's nearly deserted on weekdays. For lunch, Cisco's Cantina, home of the Megarita, served delicious crab enchiladas. After one of their Megaritas (a 40 Oz Margarita), I was in no shape to drive back to Waikiki and would spend the rest of the afternoon at the beach drying out.

  7. Wouldn't it be great if Pattaya beach was kept as clean as the beach at Waikiki?
  8. Diamond Beach hotel collects IDs but it appears 3 times on this list. Fake and stolen IDs aren't difficult to obtain, surveillance cameras may be more effective in apprehending perpetrators, as was the case in one of the homicides, where the woman used a stolen ID: http://www.pattayada...ead-two-in-icu/ http://pattayamail.c...81/news07.shtml
  9. If you like freelancers, be aware the risks. Here's a list of recent incidents, by no means comprehensive, complied using google, includes some fatalities. Most occurred this year. 18. I've heard there can be some unpleasant odors in the sea-facing units because of cremations at the Wat.
  19. I used to live on the 4th floor in Center Condo and enjoyed my 9 month stay there. They actually had a GoGo bar on the ground floor at one time, I think it was called the Blue Lagoon, and they added the pool while I lived there. I rented a 51 sq m unit for 14,000 which included electric, water, and cable, but it was a few years ago.
