All of these articles make it sound like United offered $400 and then $800 CASH. Unless something has changed, they always offered Vouchers of that amout toward another ticket. I did this a bunch of times, but not recently. One time I took a voucher for $800 thinking that would buy 2 domestic flights. However, later, when I went to cash part of it for a flight, I was told I only get to use it all at once or lose the rest. I had to fight like heck to get them to allow me to use the balance for another flight (and perhaps only got it because I'm Platitum). And if I remember

The Marriott Pattaya usually has rooms in the 4000's, especially if you pay in advance. You'll pay closer to the 6000s for sea view.

Can I get some recommendations for reputable jewelers?
statman208 replied to MM's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
MM -- Yes, I'm 99.9% sure that SJ International Jewelers in Bangkok is reputable. I've been there several times and being in there feels the same as being in a good shop in the US (as opposed to the scam plances in Thailand). I have a card with the number and address if you need it. They'll sand a van to pick you up at your hotel free if you want. -
MM.. My original post is correct in reference to The Avenue site of Shenanigan' which was there as far back as I've been staying at the Marriott (2010). I didn't know Shenanigan's was at the Dicey site before it moved to The Avenue (learn something everyday on here!). I used to eat at Shenanigans over at The Avenue (upstairs) quite a bit until it went under. It became Acorn after a short while, but that didn't last long. I saw last month that the Acorn sign is still up there, but the place is still closed. Tavern is either the Old Jim Bean or next to it. My memory is fading on

It is NOT the old shananigans. That became Acorn that failed. Dicey is actually a part of Marriott. The only burger I like better is Tavern by the Sea on Beach Road.

Update: Hamburgers and Other Food at Sky Bar on Soi Six
statman208 replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
Evil - Tavern by the Sea (Amari Hotel) on Beach Rd has a decent burger. That's my "go to" for one.... (as you said, after many experiences not so good) -
Apparently you guys have not been through Jeddah (lucky for you). It has got to be the standard for worst airport in the world. The old Qatar airport is 100 times better than Jeddah, believe it or not. I stopped flying through Qatar awhile back because of those busses and switched to Etihad. I'll look at going back to Qatar now.
-
I fly a lot and I typically use Lufthansa, Qatar, Etihad, United, ANA and Turkish and they are all about the same in the back of the bus. I choose based on price and it works fine.

Pupen Seafood Restaurant In Jomtien- UPDATED Feb. 19, 2014
statman208 replied to Evil Penevil's topic in Restaurants and food
The Thai lady that took me there said Pupen translated to "spicy crab". Not saying she is right, only that it is interesting Thais translate it differently.- 35 replies

23 days in May - 1500b/night - tactics?
statman208 replied to aldriglikvid's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Sandy Springs might fit your criteria.. -
I've been there many times and I like it. There are about 8-9 rooms and the cost is 500 baht for ST. I think it is quite nice, much better than others I've been to on WS. If you have a Happy Group barfine (Happy, BC, Baccara, Peppermint), she gets 100 baht of the room cost back from the hotel upon leaving.

United BKK-NRT possibly being eliminated 3/30/2014
statman208 replied to MM's topic in Airline Discussion
I just bought that flight from NRT-BKK for July 2014. If it's no longer available, somebody didn't tell the website... or I guess I'll get a message at some point. I did notice it is a 777. -
Where exactly is the action in samui? And is that action gogo, bar beer, soapie, and/or massage? I'm thinking of staying in Lamai for few days early next year. Thanks...

Any hope of meeting some non-drinkers?
statman208 replied to m4321's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
OP confuses me. Do you really mean you want to go to places that do not serve alcohol...and where might that be? If so, that would seem to eliminate essentailly all the places where there are girls, which is the reason most (if not all) go to Pattaya. I don't drink much (maybe 1 per night) as I like being sober to make good choices and enjoy the girls. However, I'm amongst the smokers and drinkers most of the time. -
I flew both last month.. Etihad from Saudi to BKK and Cathay from Hong Kong to LA. I thought both were about the same in coach.

Agree with LBJ.. TheLimoPattaya.com has worked great for me. I've had about ~20 trips with them and only minor issues a couple times, never anything major like a no show. It's owned and run by a Thai lady (Eve) and she knows what she'd doing. I don't even screw with the website anymore. Just simply send her and email with my flights/hotel and done. 1200 Baht each way.

KTK Royal Residence Review
statman208 replied to bastax33's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Do you still walk from 2nd Road when you have a barfine with you? -
Yes, I've flown recently and they were relaxed. The only airline that I have that problem with is EVA.

Do you spend many nights alone in Pattaya?
statman208 replied to Butch's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I NEVER want to waste a night in Patts, hence I make sure I have a lady each night. About 95% of the time, I send them home before 2am. I like to sleep and wake up alone so that I can do what I want, when I want, the next day. -
He might try the Dusit Thani if he can't find the Villa he wants. It's very nice and on the other end of Beach Rd from Walking St. Hence, it's a bit out of the way, but close enough (without going all the way to Jomtien).
