  1. I visited with the wife and daughter a couple of years ago, managed to get in for the Thai price by showing my Thai driving licence. Looks like they have added/updated some of photos. Daughter loved it for photos to update her Facebook profile, well she is 17. Regards
  2. Here's hoping it finally happens this time ?? Regards
  3. Looks good, nice report, thanks for posting. Regards
  4. Your links that you posted are at least one year out of date. The upto date link I posted shows that Hull or any other consulate around the UK are no longer issuing non 'o' visas, everything has to go via London since 15th January 2014. As I stated, as of last week there was no financial requirement from the Embassy in London if your other documents were in order. The financial requirements are actually for the yearly permission to stay stamp, although I know that some consulates were asking for it just for non 'o' visas. Just trying to keep the information as current as possible to
  5. Even if you are married to a Thai the consulates are now not giving out non 'o' visas, all have to go through London. Regards
  6. Hi, yes my original marriage certificate is in Thai. I got a certified translation done by the Thai Consulate in Hull UK. Sorry can't remember the cost exactly but not too expensive. Done around five years ago or so. Regards
  7. Hi, Just a quick update for the above subject. As from the beginning of this year the Thai consulates around the UK are no longer issuing non 'o' visas, just thought I would post my experience of applying directly to the Thai Embassy in London. A link to the Thai Embassy website stating that the consulates in the UK are no longer issuing non 'o' visas. http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/401 I am in the UK at present, last Monday the 7th April I posted off my application, I followed their instructions on the website. I submitted my original marriage certificate, a co
  8. That is actually not too bad from NE Scotland, always a surcharge when we have to transit through the main airports in England. Regards
  9. Thailand is maybe more expensive than in the USA, but in this case definitely cheaper than buying in the UK, where I presumed the OP is from looking at his profile location. Regards
  10. No I didn't, I was aware of the possibility of getting the 7% back as well. I initially ordered it from the Thai online Apple Store, but for some obscure reason my credit card was declined this particular time, so I purchased it at an Apple re-seller in Sakon Nakhon, I asked about the form (forget the name of the form now) for claiming back the VAT but was meet with even more blank stares, not too many tourist buying Apple stuff in Sakon Nakhon so I decided to call it quits and be happy with my saving of £87.00. I would have mentioned it but the OP states it's for his niece in Thailand
  11. Hi Greg, I bought an I-pad in December of last year in Thailand. No brainier price wise really. I went for the 32GB wi-fi only model £479.00 in UK Apple stores. I paid 20,400/ 52/£ (at the time)= £392 so a saving of £87, exchange rate slightly better now as well. Went for the wi-fi only model as you can get online nearly any place these days, didn't see the extra price for the SIM card version as being worth it. Good purchase well pleased with it, so much easier to carry around when travelling. Regards
  12. I actually backed out of booking with Lufthansa, my mate got delayed in Frankfurt with the ground staff strikes a few weeks back, now with their pilots on strike as well and knowing my luck, guaranteed to strike the day I'm flying. I booked with Etihad, which came in £593 instead of £518 of Lufthansa, but peace of mind and all that. Regards
  13. Stunning vibrant colours in the photos, top quality stuff. Thanks for posting. Regards
  14. Is there not a Chao Doi coffee outlet in Pattaya ? It is a Thai brand of coffee from the Chang Rai area I think, quite a few outlets around Isaan theses days, good tasting rich coffee IMHO. Regards
  15. Thanks statman, think I will go for it, the price difference is too tempting. I also travel a fair bit, just not on the aforementioned. Yes you can pick your seat on their website before you actually pay for the ticket, The normal seats on the long haul legs are free to choose, but £9 on the Aberdeen Frankfurt leg, which is only around two hours ? Know what you mean about the difference in classes, I'm in business class tomorrow from Doha to London on Qatar's 777, but have to bite the bullet in May/June. Regards
  16. As the topic suggests has anybody recently flown economy class with them. I have to plan a trip from Aberdeen to Bangkok return for May/June, I normally always fly Qatar but they are looking expensive for this trip £800 +, Lufthansa are coming in at £519, with only one change of plane in Frankfurt and total travel time of 16hrs each way approximately. I checked seat guru and they are showing 31" seat pitch for their A340-600's and 300's which they use on the route. Just wondered if any members had any recent experience of what their in flight service is like ? Quite tempted with the
  17. Once you get your confidence up, then there is the very stringent motorcycle test to pass in Pattaya (no wonder there is carnage on the roads everyday), sorry I know I have posted it before, but thought it relevant for this thread. Ha ha. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqoXlI5p8D8 She probably still passed ! Remember and take your umbrella to shield you from the sun/rain, also your phone so you can text whilst driving and chat to your two mates on the back at the same time. Best one I have seen was in Nakhon Phanom outside Tesco Lotus, a Honda wave with husband driving
  18. Is what's app not available for a blackberry ? Then you could text for free all day and at least that's one part of the equation solved. I have never used blackberry so apologies if it's not available. Regards
  19. We always go and pay once we know the bills have been issued but not arrived at our baan, only exception is the lecky which we give straight to the landlady. Although we have given up trying to change our address with 3BB, we moved house around 6-7 years ago and after telling them every month in the office for a few years when paying our bills, also numerous calls and letters to head office in Bangkok, still no joy. Not sure if the bill still goes to the old property or not, must please the tenants there. Just part of the charm of staying here ha ha. Regards
  20. Drive down to Ubon today, few days business !

  21. I'm sure they didn't feel too much pity for us when the UK pound went from 75 to 43 in the space of a few years, likewise the US dollar. Also our saving rates return from 5 +% to .05%. Regards
  22. Hot season is here 38 yesterday in Nakhon Phanom !

  23. Cheers Tom, have installed AbBlock as you recommended, seems to be doing the trick against the main culprits. Never realised it would just be an extension on Chrome. Regards
