  1. Never had a probelm either. But be wary of paying anything more than the "deposit' as required as any payment you do make will be "non-refundable", which really bites if your plans change or if you want to switch hotels for any reason. Also, be sure to check for pricing directly with the hotel website as I learned too late they often offer cheaper rates than the "discounters"
  2. Checked the site. United is charging $1500. However, THAI is flying non stop those days for $1080. Not bad, really considering my June flight on THAI cost $1600.
  3. Yes, I used KAL. 22 hours going over (not bad at all), but 37 hours return. But that's all they had and I really wanted to rid myself of the Delta FF miles just in case. Thanks for the help. Flying N/S Thai June 28!!
  4. Early, I know.. Just had to post it!
  5. Excellent Advice! I called the international Partners Awards desk (a separate number) and spoke to a very knowledgeable and friendly agent. She put me on hold for 5 minutes and "FOUND" an award travel ticket available- can you believe it- in PEAK season! Now I'm coming back in late Dec/Jan and this time for free!! Thanks for the input.
  6. long ride better shared drinking beer with new friends. Staying at Majestic Suites and going to Pattaya July 1st (flexible). PM if interested in sharing cost. -Pat
  7. no wireless as of January 2006. The 4 terminals they have in the lobby I believe are 1 baht per minute, with 20B minimum? Anyway, the connection speed sucks bigtime and is very frustrating. Other than that, excellent value for what you get.
  8. The BG I was with for 2 days mentioned that as being a, "very nice hotel" and we were at the Areca at the time. I'm thinking it must be pretty good
  9. I agree. It is a lot less walking than having to cross 2nd road and cut through the shopping mall to get a baht bus to Walking Street. Interesting ride as well as you get to see a little more of the poorer side of Pattaya on the way.
  10. If this is your first trip I think it's best to overbudget to the tune of $200 US per day (roughly 8K baht), including lodging. You will still want ATM access to more if needed, but this should be more than suffiicent unless you're planning on ringing the bell everywhere you go. I'll be there in July myself and I hear its hot as hell then.
  11. Dear Sirs, Please be informed that we are charging every visitor who go to the guestrooms at B.1,200 net per person per day. For your information. Regards, Front Office Siam City Hotel 477 Si Ayuthaya Road, Phayathai, Bangkok 10400, Thailand Tel: (66 2) 247-0123 Fax: (66 2) 247-0178 E-mail: frontoffice@siamhotels.com www.siamhotels.com
  12. sitting on a load of FF miles and finally decided to make a reservation. IMPOSSIBLE! Does anyone have a tip/advice on the best way to book a Delta or codeshare r/t from east coast? My dates are flexible, but I just can't find ANY dates when they offer the skysaver ticket.
  13. Yes, with the exception that the 1st pool really does sort of suck? Everyone goes to the 2nd pool in the back. from thrtr they have a service desk and the pool is much more attended. (i.e. cleaner. with jacuzzi, ripples, towel service and dedicated food staff if you want it). The saunas are great. You can fuck your girl in there because A) it steams up beyond recognition once you pour water on those rocks.... and the attendants know this is a private affair and will knock on your door before attempting to enter. Never had a problem with privacy.. Only real problem is? tr
  14. You had me at hello! Drink in moderation? Might as well kill myself now and save the estate...
  15. holy shit. they honored the $157? Lucky man. Generally speaking, what is the best price you've paid for low season sans error? though not low season, my early July flight on THAI is costing me $1590 n/s. I think I should have waited instead of booking so many months in advance. I have FF miles with several airlines. Anyone want to work a deal?

  17. Since I pretend to be an accountant at times, here is my 2 cents... ASSUMPTION $450,000 in the bank today at 10% (before tax). Spend $2,500 every month (30K per year) and EXPECT 3% inflation every year for the next 30 years? Question..How long before I go broke? If I'm taxed at 25% rate, I can go 27 years without working. at 15% tax rate, I will still have $222,000 in the bank after 30 years If these are "tax free" distributions I will have over $1.4 million left in bank after 30 years. All this assumes no additional work or investments. (not likely). At any rate, $45
  18. Believe it or not 99% of the Hotels are NOT in business to rip you off. If they did, they wouldn't be in business very long. And yes, you do have protections against fraud from you CC company. In the US, you are only liable for the 1st $50, and that's ASSUMING you don't notify them of the fraud. (if you do, your liability is zero). Don't know about outside US though - maybe different. The Areca Lodge (and businesses of that caliber) are reputable and take great pride in their reputations for doing a good business. That being said, there can always be the occasional dishonest employe
  19. Food is excellent and varied. My question is does anyone leave a "tip" on the table for the waiter who comes around and fills your coffee, or for the person who eventually cleans off the table? I did but now I"m not sure if it was appropriate.
  20. I have a part-time job in a hotel in the US. We do the same thing here. The 3-digit code to ensure you have the card in your possession and did not simply steal the CC#s off the internet or statement. No worries.
  21. I almost took the bus from Ekami to Pattaya but got confused as to which one. The place was super crowded and I was reluctant to show my ignorance by asking too many questions. Which bus is it that has the AC? And is it true that it takes 3-4 hours on the Bus?
  22. Thank you for mentioning that. I have since spoken to MR. Aan of the Sabai Inn and he has assured me of a room facing the water. Unfortunately, sawadee.com reservations were not willing to credit my account even after I told them I don't want the fucking breakfast! Oh, well... thanks again.
