This wasn't quite as funny as it was when it was posted a couple of months ago.

I took an oveland trip to Siem Reap from Pattaya last year in December. It is a long trip taking most of the day but you see a lot of the countryside. I booked through Sea, Air, Land tours on Soi Post Office and they looked after everything. Included ground transport to and from Siem Reap (cahanged vehicles in Poipet), hotel, driver and guide for 2 days for Angkor Wat. I think I paid around 13,000 but it may have been less. Not a bad trip but the roads are pretty bumpy and they all drive like they are in the Monaco GP.

If you had to move from Thailand where would you go and why?

The "active volcanoes" bit is enough to turn me off. Bad enough when the woman you're with explodes without warning! -
6 of one and a half a dozen of the other. Doesn't matter much which way you get to and from the airport I figure your odds are equal no matter who the driver is.

''ASIANA KING'' PHONE CARD......
Braveheart replied to AL151's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I actually went with a long distance carrier instead of using phone cards. Right now I'm using Tel3 Advantage. It costs 0.10 per minute through the local access number or 0.11 for 1-800 access. Tel3 Advantage -
cheap longstay place?
Braveheart replied to doughnutmeal's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Welcome to the board. Have a look through the hotels section and you will find many of them that will give you a good rate for a long term stay. It would also help if you specified what exactly you are looking for such as a pool, security, location, price range if you wish for specific answers. -

Typical 3rd World infrastructure. No problems with anything in Kathmandu - ATMs, Internet, Hospitals and other amenities are readily available. Don't know the quality of the medical care there as I never had to partake of it. I have heard that the other large towns/cities in Nepal are similar to Kathmandu just scaled down. Outside of the major population centres don't expect much. -
Land values would also go through the roof and most of us wouldn't be able to afford it anyway. Those that could afford it would definitely be expected to pay grossly inflated taxes.

Pattaya accepts many different perversions.

Welcome to the board. How about a little more information on what you require. Amenities (Pool, In Room Safe, Weight Room, Pool Table, Internet, Hot Water AirCon), Price Range, Location, Duration of Stay that sort of info is helpful if you want reasonable responses.

Look"s like the Phillippines will be the New retire Heaven
Braveheart replied to mrstein's topic in Expat Issues
I hear you. As with most places so long as you know the rules you can remain safe. Many North American cities have places I wouldn't be found near after dark. And I can also remember spending the entire night in a bar in Belize City because I lost track of the time and refused to leave by myself. I don't consider that being afraid as much as I do prudent, especially in an area where the locals only go out after dark in large groups. -

You might have a problem finding what we would call real security anywhere in SEA. The standards are not as high as we in the Western world are used to. -

Braveheart replied to sinkorswim's topic in Expat Issues
The only one of these countries that I have any experience with is Cambodia and I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent there although it was limited. The only other places in Asia that I have spent any time are India and Nepal. I really had a great time in Nepal and have some very close Nepalese friends who have made me welcome there but I'm not sure what their policies are regarding foreigners living there full time. My experiences in India have not been as good and I would not consider moving their unless it was work related and paid extremely well, which is unlikely. -
Might work for some but I'd be too drunk to write, let alone remember to write after the first couple of dozen.

What are my Internet options
Braveheart replied to Trvlr's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Metro Apartments, LK Metropole, Residence Garden all have in room wireless. Metro Apartments and Residence Garden both require codes, not sure about their cards but I believe that is the case at RG. You'll have to get more info about LK Metropole from another BM. Plenty have used it. -

Braveheart replied to Trvlr's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
There are some bars in town that have wireless available. I thought someone said you could even get at Starbucks or somewhere near there not long ago, but I could be wrong about that. -
No problem gizmo. We're not flaming you, just trying to help you out a bit.
