  1. You're mistaken. That link went to a post in which one BM called another's bluff. Evil :
  2. I can't recall anyone on his board bragging about how much money they spend. Can you give an example of a post where a BM bragged about spending a lot of money during a Pattaya holiday? There appear to be more posts from people who brag about how little they spend. Evil
  3. That Swedish guy was mistaken - nowhere near two million visitors per year from Sweden. I can't be bothered to look it up right now, but closer to 200,000 than 2,000,000. Evil
  4. At the day-to-day operational level which most farang tourists or ex-pats would notice, there's very little evidence of foreign "mafia" in Pattaya. The Russians and other E. European mobs use Pattaya mainly for money laundering purposes and whatever scams/extortion they might try are aimed at their own countrymen. With a handful of possible exceptions, the non-Thai women involved in P4P in Pattaya are all beholden to one trafficking group or the other, although the scope of their operations is small. There's just not that much demand for their services, in Bangkok or Pattaya. Iranians a
  5. Definitely guest friendly. It is a bit out of the way, but not outrageously so. I agree that it isn't a good choice for anyone who wants to stay in the thick of things. But for those who may prefer a quieter location or have steady female company with them, it's great value for money. Evil
  6. I'm sure P-L will be back up in a day or two. It does indeed have its moments and a spot to fill among the LOS boards. Sybarite had the Internet equivalent of a mental breakdown on P-L a few days ago - one of the best illustrations of karma in action I've ever seen. Evil
  7. The promotion with rooms at 986 baht/night runs from Oct. 11 through Oct. 31. For those of you who may on occasion need a much larger suite, the Citin Garden Resort has a penthouse suite (400 sq m with four bedrooms) for 5,000 baht/night at the promotional rate, then 8,000 baht/night from Nov. 1. Evil
  8. It's seldom you find 38-sq m rooms which hold such a high standard at such a low price. Check out the details: Citin Garden Resort. You have to stay three nights to get the low rate. The hotel's location is a bit out of the way (off Pattaya Tai not far from Sukhumvit Road, maybe five minutes' walk from BigC), but it has tuk-tuk service and it's really not a long walk to the baht bus routes. I haven't stayed at the Citin Garden Resort, but I have stayed at the Citin Loft and it was an excellent hotel. Evil
  9. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Keep it the way it is. A thousand gold stars for the volume - it's not too loud, which is a real rarity in Pattaya. Evil
  10. Through the years, the Yankees have won 27 World Series championships and 40 American League pennants. It's hard to argue with success. They are the defending Series champs and aren't doing badly this year. The Padres are a fine team, but they have some catching up to do. They entered Major League Baseball in 1969 and have won two National League pennants but no World Series. The Yanks swept them 4-0 in the 1998 Series. It's interesting, though, that Ray Kroc of McDonald's fame owned the Padres from 1974 until his death in 1984. Maybe if this topic is debated on Pattaya Talk in th
  11. It was almost impossible to get award flights from NYC to BKK for under 100,000 even in the NWA World Perks days. Evil :
  12. No, we settled that the Yankees are the most profitable sports franchise in the world over the past 100 years. They may not be this year, they may not be in the next 100 years, but up to now, they have been. But if it's not the Yankees who have been the most profitable, which franchise is? Evil EDIT IN: Change "team" to "franchise"
  13. I knew this was going to get complicated. From the top – the New York Yankees have been involved in professional baseball for more than 100 years. If you added up all the money the franchise (not just the team) and all its various income streams has made (and lost) in those 100 years, it would be more than the corresponding total for any other major professional sports team in the world. This is based on the fact that professional baseball was relatively big business in the U.S. in the 1920s and 1930s, when other professional team sports were minor operations inside and outs
  14. I don't fly Delta much these days, but have about 30,000 SkyMiles. I plan to use them to pay for my hotel in Bangkok next trip or to pay for rental cars in the U.S. Evil
  15. The topic notification function works fine for me. Evil
  16. Maybe I'm giving this an optimistic read, but I thought the second post in this thread WAS an invitation to the Office's opening night. I took it to mean that all members of FLB were invited and the "private invitation" wording was simply a gimmick that's used in many such situations. Evil :
  17. This discussion could get complicated. The Yankees have been the most profitable franchise for their owners when all sources of profit are considered. The franchise cost a consortium headed by principal owner George Steinbrenner $8.8 million in 1973; it was valued at $1.6 billion by Forbes magazine in 2010 and some considered that a low estimate. Steinbrenner died earlier this year, but many feel if he had wanted to sell it, he would have gotten more than that for it - just like his heirs would if they choose to sell. Right at this momemnt, the Yankees may or may not be the most valu
  18. She's in one of high-end Thai-for-Thai gentleman's clubs. But I was mistaken about the first one - she freelances on Beach Road. Evil
  19. It's been rumored for a long time that some of the starfish pictured below are employed in certain bars. A rental fee instead of a bar fine. Evil ---- ----
  20. And a few of them are active members of the various LOS-based Internet boards. Evil
  21. I was sent this joke through an email. I don't know who the author it is. I have adapted it so it refers to Pattaya and is funnier. Evil : A new bar opens in Pattaya and its special gimmick is a robot bartender. A punter is very curious about this, visits the bar, and sure enough, there’s a shiny new robot bartender. The robot says, “What will you have?” The guy says, “Martini.” The robot brings back the best martini ever and says to the man, “What’s your IQ?” The guy answers, “168.” The robot then proceeds to talk about the history and culture of T
  22. The New York Yankees is the most profitable professional sports franchise in the world and most would argue it is the most successful by any measure, whether in terms of sport or business. The interlocking N and Y is the best-known sports logo in the U.S. and has been used by the Yankess since 1909. For all these reasons, the Yankees' logo could be considered lucky in Asia. I'm just guessing, but most likely a clothing counterfeiter in China or Thailand slapped it on baseball caps as being the most appropriate symbol. You see a lot of them because they are widely available and cheap in
  23. Wrong as wrong can be. On Aug. 12, 2009, shares in Delta Airlines (DAL) closed at $7.20. Spending $1,000 would have given you (round up) 139 shares. On Aug. 11, 2010, DAL shares closed at $11.36, so 139 shares would be worth $1,579.04. That's a very excellent return (assuming you sell the shares today to lock in the profit). Evil
  24. I always remember how the desk clerk at a U.K. hotel almost gave a U.S. matron a heart attack when he told her that someone would be round to knock her up at 8.00 a.m. the next morning. It may just be an urban myth, but supposedly one village in the U.K. has an annual cock-blowing contest in which roosters are chased into cages using fireplace bellows. The cock-sucking contest was banned because vacuum cleaners injured the roosters. Evil
  25. I did have the same sort of problems - pages kept timing out - on Saturday and early Sunday, but now it seems fine. Evil
