  1. Sounds like you have more money than sense.
  2. Have been using Open Office for several years (too cheap to spring for MS upgrade). I don't need to work with others so I can't comment on that. Word and Excel substitutes work just fine for me. I've passed the word on the to others who are also quite satisfied.
  3. The original had two or three times the number of crew. Back then the bilge pumps were manually driven. If they went out, it was bucket brigade time. Just no way to say had they sailed further east they might have survived.
  4. Where are the spinners? All the pics are appreciated but there's an awful lot of fat ass. Not many that Gabor or I would pick.
  5. I'm 70+ years old. Have traveled quite a bit over the years and have never had nor needed travel insurance. I've never lived pay check to pay check and have always had saving for those just in case times. I just dislike insurance companies, i quess.
  6. I find the attitudes of immigration/customs people reflect the attitudes of the traveller. Be happy and pleasant towards them and you get pleasant back. Now supervisors who see long lines and refuse to man more stations are a bigger problem.
  7. Have any of you considered that the OP might want to talk to the girls in Thai?
  8. And your are not now or ever been a tax paying citizen of a super taxing welfare nanny state, never enjoyed the benefits of such citizenship and never reaped the fruits of wealth available therein and are foregoing any pension (welfare) payments from that place? Quit bashing the place that brung you up.
  9. I received a brochure in the mail from one of those "We'll show you the way" tour companies about 30 years ago. Read it but chucked it in the bin. Ten years ago as I hit the 60 mark I was browsing the web and clicked on something that brought back memories of that brochure. Research and more research and than "what the hell, buy the ticket". Several nights in Bangkok first were just overwhelming. I could count on one hand how many times I had been into a bar up to that time. I was reluctant to take part. Than I went to Pattaya. Some sweet young thing dragged me into a gogo on Pattaya Land 2 an
  10. Check EVA Bangkok to Taipei to New York via Seattle. They may even have an east bound flight Taipei direct to New York. The best connection flight leaves Bangkok around 1630. Longest leg Taipei to Seattle is about 10 hours.
  11. Use the back entrance after midnight. Top floor (fourth) has the deluxe rooms with balconies.
  12. Geez what the hell are you carrying? I fly with one carry-on less that 10 pounds.
  13. And if you miss the bus you can take the shuttle to the bus station and catch the other companies coach.
  14. Stayed there in September. Asked for and received a first floor room (216) so I didn't have to climb too many stairs. I'm old you see. Noticed the deluxe room on the floor faces soi 6/1 and is pretty big and includes a sofa. The small room on this floor is really small. Just enough room to maneuver around the bed. The room I had was quite comfy for 800 baht. The in-room electronic safe is bolted to the wall. It's too small for a lap top but there is a hook bolted to the wall for a security tether. I used the hot pot every day. Fridge is empty but 2 bottles of water replaced every day. They hav
  15. I'd much rather watch the world go by on the street that watch TV. Do we really need to be entertained electronically all the time? I kinda like the Thai soaps they're always good for a laugh. You don't need to even have the sound on. You can deduce what's going on. Even the tg's don't need the sound. Look at the girls staring at the TV's in the bars with the sound turned down.
  16. Last time I was there, TG had room in Naklua in your price range. Lots of "room for rent" signs in english.
  17. I had same sort of problem. Returned new battery and still lost power overnight. Turned out the light in the glove box didn't turn off due to bad switch. Found the source of the problem by accident. Good luck.
  18. I was impressed, every garbage truck has recycling options. Here in the States my garbage is picked up my one man with big truck. A couple of hours later the recycling bin is picked up by one man with big truck. In Pattaya, same size truck has six men plus driver and recycle items are picked out of trash enroute. Those bags up topside have the glass bottles, plastic stuff, newspaper all sorted before the load gets to the dump.
  19. Be mindful that implants cannot be done on a two week holiday. You'll need something like 6 months for them to set and several progress checkups before you get the final dentures.
  20. What do you carry that needs an in-room safe? Lobby units are not too inconvenient to keep wallet, credit cards, travellers checks, extra cash, and such. If you worry too much that girls are going to rip you off, stay home. Flipper house on Soi 7 has contruction on new wing next door. Pouring 4th floor this week. It won't be too long before all rooms in old section city side will be covered.
  21. EVA mid August to mid November SEA to BKK return $1036 buy today.
  22. Think rate is based on midnight to midnight. I know usually if you check out before check out time that day is not charged but TIT. In their mind, you used part of day so were charged. TIT
