Here's a few photos from Om's funeral held yesterday.

It was of course a very sad occasion but the generosity of board members, FLB staff members and other Pattaya friends helped to make the day a little easier.

Over 100,000 baht raised for Om's family in just a couple of days was an amazing effort. Her mother and father were overwhelmed that people in unimagined countries knew her and were so generous as to help with a little financial relief as well.

After the funeral the FLB staff met with Om's parents and passed on the donations.

Someone asked about the financial situation of the parents. As expected they live in a rural area and have very little. Their simple house was built by Om over the past few years. It's not finished yet and perhaps the donation will enable her parents to complete it.

We were invited back to the house after the funeral for the inevitable som tam but I did not take any photos there. I know Ben did so he may post a few here later.

I'm not one for emotion (hence pattaya). But this definitely brought tears to my eyes. Kind of overwhelming what the punters did for this family. The fathers wai....... see ya next week Doorman

Even though we had heard about it all from Ben today those pictures were still a major tug at the heart strings. Dads wai was so high that Martin should have felt a huge compliment was being offered which as some may know is not often to be expected from a Thai to a farang.

Good on the FLB management/owner for making all this possible. Closing the bar was a major decision in itself but hiring a coach and providing for all the staff to get there with all the added extras that were bound to follow was a gesture that is rare anywhere let alone in the LOS.

To the members and the visitors who threw so much money into the pot you can feel proud to be part of this tragic event in the families lives. Regardless of what the Buddhist religion says on reincarnation, to loose a son or daughter must hurt just as much as it would in any other country. Those donations are going to make the families lives just that little bit easier in the future after they come to terms with their loss, if anyone really ever does.

Very nice gesture by the FLB ownership.

Even though I only visit the bar occassionaly, it makes it seem more like a 'community' then just a place to have a drink and pick up some 'entertainment'. The 10 or so times I have been in FLB, the bar staff were all a delight. Very friendly and nice. I joked with all of them, Om included and they, more then either the regular customers or working ladies made the visits to the bar worthwhile and memorable.

Great pictures of the funeral. If I had been in town, I would have contributed and I know most of the regulars who were there contributed generously. In the times of tragedy, peoples true nature comes out and the FLB did itself proud.

Thanks Pete.

Having seen and talked to Om so shortly before her death has made this all the more poignant for me.

I hope our efforts will in some small way help her family to get through their tragic loss.

Every now & then, i get back with my feet on the ground......this is one of those moments....! I lived a good live, though, filled with moments where I was the one ....I thought....to get "down"....!

I got through.....and it amazes me even more, that young people, just going to, or coming back from work...get killed......Not taking any risk, just doing a "simple routine thing"...........

.......it still amazes me.....it makes me humble......!

Both beautiful and heart-wrenching. The pictures bring this tragedy home to us even more. Thanks for sharing them with those of us unable to be there.

I was planning to donate some money to the parents, when I visit in a couple of months. Does any one know how and where can I meet her parents?

At times there is a lot of BS on this board that goes on with members throwing Shit at each other and I think that the board is going south to be polite.

Then a tradegy like this happens and the humanity that is shown by the group reminds me of the real nature of all you hard asses.

The management of the FLB as well as the board did good, thanks.

Pete, Martin and Ben,

I am very proud of you guys and my fellow board members for their generosity. Martin, I have never met you. The respect you have shown to Om and her family is remarkable. To close FLB and provide transportation to Om's friends and coworkers was a woderful act of kindness and compassion.

May God bless all of you,

Bobby

The sincere compassion and consideration the FLB owners, staff, and members demonstrate to Oms memory is remarkable. It expresses the true gift of friendship that develops when kindness is foremost in the relationship.

My sincere appreciation for how this board responds in trouble times.

I’ve really found it hard to find the words to describe the sorrow I’ve felt at the passing of Om. She was such a warm and friendly girl with a smile that couldn’t help but warm your heart whenever you saw her. I too echo the others that have said that looking at these pictures have brought a tear to my eye. It was a really moving experience looking at them. Thank you, Martin, Ben and Pete, for allowing us to contribute to the family in this time of sorrow.
