I manage three trips a year by being frugal.

1) I always walk to LOS,straight away I have saved £500

2) I always stay in a broom cupboard in one of the expensive hotels, always have some blue cotton overalls just in case. These cupboards are bigger than standard rooms in Hoiney Inn.

3) Always play connect four with my bar girl for money,my wife stands 3ft behind the bg telling me my next move.

4) Always drink the sea water. It has done me no harm!

5) Don't waste money on toilet roll, just shit yourself in the sea.

6) Always tag along with a drunk-he will love you for spending his mony.

7) And finally...................when presented with a bill for ANYTHING just :eyecrazy

It works for them !!

Try not to go out as much on the weekends at home, stay away from clubs, learn to shop in bargain places.

In other words be a big Cheap Charlie but only when you are at home. Come to Pattaya twice a year for two weeks and have a great time.

I lived in Thailand for over three years when I was in the military and fell in love with the country, the people and the culture. I also made an effort to learn some of the language. I am NOT fluent but never quit learning. I travel to Thailand 1-2 times a year and will be back for 2 1/2 weeks this year Oct. - Nov. (I will be there for Loi Kratong this year).

How do I afford it? Ditto on what many have said already. I used to party a lot which included drinking and basically throwing money away. Once I decided to go back to Thailand the first time for a visit, I changed my ways.

For one, I own my own business so time off is flexible. I DO NOT make a ton of money, but I quit throwing money away and put it away until I have enough for a trip. Every spare dime I have goes into the kitty.

One thing I do religiously is to use a credit card that gives frequent flyer miles. I purchase EVERYTHING on the card, groceries, gas most everything. I also pay many of my bills with the card, house insurance, auto insurance, cell phone, etc. You'd be surprised how fast the points add up. When I accumulate enough points, I purchase a ticket.

Once there I do not require 5-star accomodations but stay in modestly priced hotels. In Pattaya I stay at Sunshine Vista on Soi 3. I eat some very nice, relatively inexpensive meals and have no problem eating food from the local street vendors. Speaking the language also gets me a price beak in many instances.

If you really put your mind to it, you'd be surprised at how easy it is to afford a trip to Thailand.

I go to Thailand 3-4 times a year and only after accumulating 90 working days of vacation in addition to my 21 days of annual vacation. Now that I'm nearing the end of my career, I'm taking my full 21 days and dipping into my accumulated vacation days each year. While not vacationing, I put in all the overtime offered me and keep from spending on fancy restaurants, bars and high-cost trips. The return on the dollar is so great in SEA that I will continue returning as long as I am able.

After retiring, I will be taking only 2 trips per year but my stay will be extended to months instead of days.

Same reply as many others - work overtime, live frugally ( never eat out in the UK, never go to clubs/casinos/expensive bars )- and one key thing - any cigarette smokers in the UK well if you didn't - just add it up!

get a 2nd or 3rd mortgage on the house...max out your credit cards...sell other peoples' personal property, even a pint of blood will get you from BKK to Pattaya. Whatever you have to do....DO IT!!!

 I travel to thailand 3-4 times every year, i have built a house up country which took me a year and a half of hard slog !!. But now i reap the benefits of no hotel bills etc.

Im off in 5 weeks for a 2 month stay on a 60 day visa.

Ive been traveling to los for 8 years, the first 6 years cost me an absolute fortune every time i went (approx £2,000 every time i went) now i have cut that expense down by half.

Living as the thais do is incredibly cheap , i spend no more than £6 every day now , i smoke , drink ,and have a great time over there.

If i need a mongering trip im only a £7 bus ride away from bangkok.

The house initially cost a lot of money but the way i view things is "short term loss long term gain"

Chock Dee :beer

I try and come to Pattaya three to five times a year. I was offered early retirement when I was 44. I have a decent pension and a wife who makes way more money then I ever did. Plus investments and savings come into play.

BTW my old man told me it's just as easy to fall in love with a rich women as it is a poor one. I followed his advice. :dhorse

Same as everone else, work nights, sleep all day, don`t go out, buy cheap cigarettes, save my coin for pattaya :D ,

Get 25 days holiday a year, if i run out of holidays, i go sick :D

Don`t drink, only in pattaya

Same as me I only drink and smoke when in Pattaya, twice a year for 4 weeks each time.I am lucky to have strong will to be able to do this, also on doctors advice.

Like many others live a very frugal life here, and I am on a pension. :clueless :drunk :D

I live frugally during the year. I take only one vacation for 6 weeks to Thailand. Try and party like crazy during my stay. Then 10 1/2 months of recovery. Then start the cycle again until retirement to Pattaya in about 3 - 4 years. Then it will be reversed. Vacation in the States for 4 weeks a year to see my married friends and rub it in about how nice it is to bonk the lovely ladies that are the same age as they were when I was in my teens and 20's. Of course, being in my fifties I appreciate them much more now.
