Best Seafood Restuarant

From beach road, go up Pattaya tai and turn right on second road and you will see

this view

http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/?UGuRUGookc8D

Those baht buses on the left wait there all day and once loaded with people they head

off to Jomtien.

Get one of those to Jomtien and then find another one which will head down beach road

jomtien right to the end.

Or find one which is empty and ask for prices to take you down to jomtien and haggle

the fee if they will.

Sorry to be pedantic but if giving directions better get it right. That would be Phratamnak Rd.

Marine Seafood is a good cheap place. I'd rather dine there instead of Kings. But when I take a date, I go to Nang Nual on Walking Street, right before Covent Gardens.

The ones on the Walking St have got it together, and are great for the tourist. But for those that live here they are overpriced. Look around and see how many Thais are eating there.

For a change, go right to the far end of Jomtiem beach, where the estuary is. There are 2 good ones there.

I like the food served at the Jomtiem Beach Rd resturant. Many Thai eat there.

Indianbrit asked about seafood places in a new thread but since this one had more entries I figured I would answer him here.

Not sure what the best is but I have been to Nang Nual on walking street and can confirm that it is good. Price was okay but I am sure there is cheaper. I have been to Vientiane also but I didn't have the seafood. I do remember that I didn't like what I had. I would give it another chance though as I have read a lot of good things about the restaurant. The location and setting do suck however. Big open air place with a view into a dirt lot and the worst music imaginable. Saw pictures of food and setting at Moom Aroi , Naklua and that place looks awesome. Plan on giving it a try in May.

Never eat at a resturant that hires touts , their salary comes from overcharging you.

The small resturant/shop opposite Marine Seafood is best for me between 7-9pm as food is good and cheap with the traffic being mostly working girls on the way to the 'office'. But the resturant need to work on their service!

Seafood is a personal favorite and enjoy seeking out places to eat in Pattaya. This being said, Marine has good food and much cheaper than the competition on the main walking street area.

Nang Nual, has ok food, one point to make, that is why I stopped eating here, is their restrooms for staff and customers, do not have soap or toilet paper. One sure sign of questionable hygiene and potential for food borne illness.

King seafood, is a good place for me. Service is good, live seafood is comparable to any other seafood place on WS. Taste is dependent on how you want your seafood cooked, grilled, fried, steamed or cooked in broth(such as tom yum) and what seafood you want to eat be it squid, octopus, differing shellfish example, king, rock, spiny lobsters, blue or black crabs, river, sea prawns, mussels, clams, scallops and oysters. Lobster Pot beside King is also very good. Try their oysters rockefeller or just topped with melted cheese, delicious.

Mom Aroi(sp) in Naklua is good as well as Bang Saray beach seafood, where you actually see the fishing boats dock with their catch of the day. Go to Bang Saray during sunset and it is really a site to behold. There are other seafood places the locals go to off the highway before arriving in Pattaya, which I was brought to. The seafood was so fresh, you could really tell the difference being that all the seafood was picked from huge tile bathtubs, including a favorite live baby abalone, a rarity and very cheap compared to US prices.

Vientianne, alas is no more on WS. This last 2 trips, I tried going to the other branch, I believe is on Pattaya Klang. The food that came out, wasn't even half as good as the former WS restaurant. Both the issan and seafood left a lot to be desired.

One thought about a documentary that I watched was that some of the live fish sold in tanks caught in the reefs and oceans are netted by means of cyanide. This stuns the fish, in order to keep it alive and transported in holding tanks. Although, you can see alot of fish pens, prawn farms dotting the seaside, so aquaculture is evident to raise seafood for consumption. Just watch the trucks that bring live fish in holding tanks being delivered regularly in the afternoon to the seafood restaurants on WS.

Lastly, there is one decent eatery on Soi 15, that does great live seafood. Not quite as expensive as the bigger restaurants, but don't expect gourmet specialties such as cheese or butter being used in their cooking. :nod

I went to one just before you get to the one you mention. There is a largish car park on the left just before the restaurant then a large covered restaurant and also seating on the other side of the road by the sea. Had a great meal there, let the TG do the ordering. Ended up with a bucket of mussels, a big fish in one of those fish shaped trays on a burner. Dont know what the fish was but the TG said it was a river fish not a sea fish, whatever it was it was bloody lovely. Also had a big plate of the most amazing soft shell blue crab cooked in chilli, lots of rice, beer and ice cream. I was shitting myself waiting for the bill but nearly fainted when I saw how cheap it was. The place was packed with Thais so I presume thats a good sign.

Damn, bloody hungry now

Mom Aroi(sp) in Naklua is good

I like this place very much. Mum Aroi (testy corner) located on the end of Naklua, next to Ananya Condominium, on soi 4 naklua rd.,

Big beachfront restaurant with huge variety of dishes (thai and seafood), very popular for thais.

I was having a look for any “Best Seafood Restaurant” type thread and could not believe how far back I had to go until I found one, and being honest comments or recommendations from this long ago are pretty useless.

I have eaten at number of seafood restaurants in and around Pattaya and Jomtein, though in no way would I claim to be familiar with any of them as I’m not in town often enough and not at all in the last 12 months.

I recently read on here re Longbridge Restaurant and have heard of Moom Aroi, also in Naklua. Does any BM have any recent, first hand experience of Moom Aroi, Rim Talay etc, or similar in Nakula, Pattaya or Jomtein? Any reccomendations? I don’t want to go any further.

What is the best place on Walking Street? Surely a few must be good?

Often the WS places are slated for being poor, expensive and touristy. I feel that’s probably justified, but to be expected, however the setting and the atmosphere, I always found very pleasant. The worst I experienced was the Lobster Pot, and the best was Nang Nual. I had some great nights in Nang Nual and loved the food. Would I get much better quality in Jomtein or Naklua? I know it may be cheaper, better value etc, but is it worth the effort to save a few Baht or is the food really that good ? I ate at a place on South Jomtein Beach Rd, with tables along the other side of the road, don’t remember name, but it was just ok, though I’m sure cheaper. It was a night, mid-week and it was pretty quiet with zero atmosphere.

I am meeting a friend during my next stay, a Thai lady who has lived in my home town for the last 15 years, and off course she is a seafood aficionado. Hence my post.

Thanks for your help.

As jacko mentioned early in this old thread, the one at the end of Beach Road in Jomtien is probably the best. There is a problem getting there because the baht buses don't like to go that far down. You will probably have to charter a baht bus to take you there. Getting back is easier because the staff will call a baht bus to pick you up. My Thai wife is a seafood expert and can easily tell what is fresh and what is past its sell by date. She refuses to eat at the ones on Walking Street. She says they are far too expensive and not everything is fresh.

I dont each a great deal of sea food but have a second hand recommendation. I have been to this place but not eaten there however a Thai/Farang couple I know thought it the best value in Pattaya. The place is a vast buffet restaurant and it is two street to the Naklua side of Big C in Second Road. Walk down a hundred meters and its on the right. Early on there are a lot of tour buses here but I believe its an eat all you can for about 180 baht per person. I am sure that there will be some that know the place and have thoughts on the place.

Myself and a pal of mine like most people are partial to seafood but not too keen on seafood restaurant prices especially those in Walking Street. We used to go to Tops and order a selection of sea food, prawns, fish, cockles and mussels. Unfortunately they do not sell crab or lobster. We'd also get a couple of loaves of French bread, butter, garlic dip and a bottle of spicy sauce. We'd also pop over the road to the Best Supermarket or whatever it's called and buy a big 2 litre bottle of plonk.

Tops will steam or barbeque the seafood for you while you wait and then we'd take it back to our room with the girls we were with and have a good old feast. The whole lot used to come to less than a 1000 baht back when we were getting about 70 baht to the UKP so it would probably be around twice that amount now but still good value for money for four of you especially when we found that the four of us could not eat it all. What used to fascinate us was the fact that the girls used to prefer the prawns' head to the actual prawns themselves

A good selection of seafood is also available at very reasonable prices in the Smelly Market behind the big Kodak shop in South Pattaya Rd and winkles are also sold but make sure you have a pin with which to pick out your winkles. But this much cheaper option is only recommended to those who have cooking facilities and know how to prepare seafood.
