Moved Into My New Rented House In Khon Kaen

Recommended Posts

Well time seem to pass so quick now I live in LOS,

I have now been living in Khon Kaen,North East Thailand now for 8 months

Been very happy and the City is a great place for a home base :gulp

I have just finished a six month rented contract on my last house.

I have moved because my last house was too large for me and my TG ,also the new house

costs 10000 bhts month compare to my last house which was 12500 bhts month.

Even though this house is smaller ,it still has 3 bedrooms ,2 shower rooms and a very relaxing

sitting room come dinning room.

The garden is smaller but im happy about this as its more easy to keep ,less work for my gardener HA HA.

This is a typical house ,in nice location by the lake and only 10 minute Baht bus run to city

Houses like this can still be found for around the 8000 to 10000 bhts month in Khon Kaen,

Sure is not a expensive city to live and a great place for any body thinking about living in LOS.

I paid down payment deposit of only 10000 bhts ,unlike my last house which I had to pay 20000 bhts deposit.

Now thats anther story about getting your full deposit back ,so far I was happy

because before I left my old house ,the landlord gave me back 17000 bhts keeping hold

of 3000 bhts till end of full month.

Now he tells me he must pay gardner ,I said ok the costs should only be about 300 bhts for cutting

grass and small shrubs :clap2

But he tells me the large trees,in which there where many must be cut and trimmed :drunk

When I moved into the house 6 months ago the trees where large and he never cut :thumbup

Also tells me we damaged many of the mosquito mess at the windows, this is bull shit as the damage

was there when we moved in,all i did was to tape the damage frames when I first moved in.

Well im not going to worry over 3000 bhts, also I have a friend who lives in Undon Thani who is high

up in the legal system, she tells me if i have any problems she will deal with it for me

and no costs to :D

So to all future renters ,when you first rent house ,point out to owners any damage found

and take pictures for future reference if needed.

Well all I can say now ,Is I am very happy with my new house and have settled in very well

Hope to see some of my friends in the future in Khon Kaen

Wow Dr Mick

What a classey looking place ,but then you are one classey bloke yourself

Great looking place.

Did TTT make it up to your place :thumbup and how did it go ?

Was great catching up again, hope to do it again sooner rather than later

All the best

Mick, you got off lightly. Deposits are often not returned here. I had to shell out 50k in Pattaya, 20k security plus 2 months. Been here a bit and the evidence of a past cheap renovation is showing through.

Probably all be my fault.......

Looks like a nice 'little' house.

Yes TTT and his TG stopped for 5 days with me ,he loved Khon Kaen and the beauties of the city

Being with his TG he felt like a boy in sweet shop and could not taste all the sweets which

was displayed in Khon Kaen :drunk

We all had a great time together and went to many places :clap2

All I can say if most of the money were not given back ,I would have had my legal friend from

Undon on the case,as my TG worked so hard cleaning every where, left the house spotless.

Not like when we first moved in ,it was so dirty and infested with insects :D

I do not understand why people keep deposits when house has been well looked after :gulp

Nice house. Do such places typically come furnished?

That would be my problem. What would I do for furniture if the place came empty?

Anyway, you can't beat the price.

Obviously. Actually, I'd never rent a house in Thailand unless it came with armed security guards, 24/7. Too many burglaries, from what I read. And in any event, I wouldn't need that much room.

This is pretty must the standard thing to do and all rentals any where not only in LOS.

Looks like a fantastic house for the money Mick, will give you a call when I arrive in Khon Kaen on 20th May. :allright

Ya think.......

When you go away for a bit, who do you think tells the thieves which house is open for attack? Best thing is good neighbours who actually have eyes in their heads.

Feel more safe here then in a large city in the UK

Does have 24/7 security, but have never seen them stop anybody

I agree ,best to have good neighbours.

My neighbours are

Major in Thai Army

Cheif Police Officer

A ritired falang who cooks and sells falang food

A aging Lady Boy :rotflmao

Great stuff Dr. ! That house looks great. Glad to see/hear all is well with you. Great pics BTW from Hua Hin. I think we are going to fly to KK instead of a bus. We will see you in October! I will call you next week about the tentative plans.

Question for you Dr. Mick.

Did you find your house through an agent or on a walk about?

About three years ago I contacted an agent in Khon Kaen with regard to renting a house there but at best he was uncooperative and in the end i gave up on him.

He was a farang.

About nine years ago I spent some time in Khon Kaen or I should say Ban Don Bom which is a few clicks outside the city with a female i was involved with at the time.

I was there for the opening night of the number 1 bar which at the time was run by Geoff from the UK.

The last time I was in the bar the owner was a guy called John.

Since the number 1 bar opened as you know other farang owned bars have appeared in the Kosa hotel area.

I’m told that the Hollywood complex has gone and if that is the case what’s in its place?

Top West was always on my list of places to visit.

If ever I move out of Pattaya or should I say the ‘Darkside’ which might happen in the next year or two then khon Kaen would be my first choice.

The best way to find a house,go on walkabouts ,ride around estates looking for boards on houses with tele numbers,

Get to know the x patts in the falang pubs, will get some good leads from them

There is some good house to be found in very good locations for 10000 bhts month.

No 1 bar now owned by a man called Dave ,great guy.

he puts parties on about every 2 months.

14th May he is having a beach party ,should be fun

4 falang bars around the kosa area

Also some very nice Thai bars can be found around the big lake

I have just been to Undon Thani ,many lady bars now there.

But still very happy with my choice living in Khon Kaen

Thanks Dr Mick.

I thought walk-about was the way to go.

Is there much in the way of available rental accomodation around the lake area?

I have my own furniture which is more than enough to furnish a three bedroomed house, is unfurnished available?

I used to go to a sea food restaurant by the lakeside forget the name but on one occasion it was my ladies birthday so i booked a private room with our own personal waiter and Waitresses.

A night I’ll never forget especially seeing the smiling faces on the children.

Cost: Drinks, mountains of food and generous tips set me back less than 5000 baht for 20 people (30% where children who had the time of their lives).

If you bump into a skinny Scottish geezer around the circuit that lives in Santisuk called Bobby and works off-shore then tell him an old friend from his Phuket/Pattaya days says hello.

I live around the lake, also many other falangs, sure be other here to rent.

I also have a american friend who will have new house ready to rent about June, sure he would love

to rent this unfurnished as it would save he bucks buying stuff for the place

Thanks for info Dr Mick.

Keep me posted on the accommodation situation; i'm interested in a 3-bedroomed unfurnished place, preferably single storey.

I'm away back to the UK in June for three months doing some work on a house i own there so it won’t be before then.

The house i live in now which is a 5-minute bike ride from Jomtien i took on an unfurnished basis as it was brand new which saved the owner a few bob on furniture and allowed me to negotiate a discount on the monthly rental cost.

Most importantly it enabled me to choose furniture to my own liking.
