Hotel Advice

Hey,

 

I am visiting Pattaya for the first time in November and am hopeful for some guidance regarding accommodation. I have narrowed down my hunt for a hotel by making a shortlist which consists of:

 

 

Sandy Springs

The Pattaya Beach Resort

Sabai Lodge

Hotel Vista

Flipper Lodge

 

My budget is £35.00 which works out at approximately 2000Bht (a night). I would appreciate it if anyone can pass down their knowledge and help a guy out.

 

I personally like the look of Flipper Lodge and The Pattaya Beach Resort albeit my friend prefers the look of Sabai Lodge.

 

We would prefer no joiner’s fee but this is not essential.

 

If anyone else is visiting around November the 6th time feel to PM me.

Flipper lodge would be best for your first trip as you will be based on soi 8 and close to the bus route, you should be able to get flipper lodge for about 1000 baht per night.

Would for example it make a big difference staying around Soi 8 at flipper Lodge oppose to staying at Sabai lodge (Soi 2) North Pattaya, from a location point of view?

Sabai lodge is a fine hotel but not exactly close to bars, it is ideal if you dont want to be hassled walking back down soi 8 to Flipper lodge.

Sabai lodge is usually slightly more expensive than Flipper lodge.

I like the Sabai Lodge just because it has a mellow atmosphere. And the Soi 2 area has it's own bar scene. Big C is down the block, long with three soapy massage places. The baht buses come right by, down Soi 2. And it's girl friendly.

Sabai Lodge for me to , 4 pools , has two gogos virtually next door plus a heap of beer bars close by. Big C and the Soapies are approx 100metres away. baht buses travel down Soi2 so baht buses are always going past the hotel and by baht bus you are approx 2 minutes from Soi 6 , 5 minutes to soi 7-8 and 10 minutes to walking street

You do not have to pay 2000B for a perfectly good hotel. Suggest you look at Soi 7 and 8. Google the Eastiny group and the Sunshine. These run from approx 1000B and there are some good specials at the moment.

Ive stayed on Soi2 a few times, i liked the location....bars at one end of the Soi near big C, loads of Baht bus`s going past and a bit more mellow place to stay....hmmm i did find myself down Soi 7/8 drinking quite regular but enjoyed staying at the more mellow Soi2, good place to stay...baht bus`s go straight past Sabai then down beach road to walking street if thats your thing.

Location Point of view is minimal , if you plan on experiencing all area's Pattaya then Soi 8 is marginally better located than soi 2,

Stayed at Sabai also. Hotel and location is fine.

 

For a newbie I would also look at Areca Lodge which has a good location in Soi Diana. Nice room, No joiner fees and two nice pools. Approx 1200 a night.

Have not read the other responses in this thread, but with your budget I would choose my hotel of choice (writing this from a room there now): Tim Boutique Hotel at second road soi 13,5 (or something, near Soi Diana). Go to www.agoda.com and you can book it at 1800 baht. Great rooms, guest friendly (no joiner fee, bring as many girls as you want), fantastic pool on top, good service, in room internet (1 baht per minute), great location.

 

EDIT in: I just looked at some other posts here, one suggesting Areca Lodge. Stayed there, cheaper yes - but worn out rooms and not worth the money they ask.

I have taken on board all of your comments and have decided Sabai Lodge is probably our best choice.

 

teelack - I understand i don't have to pay 2000BHT for a perfectly good hotel but i didn't any hotels been ruled out due to the cost.

 

erik_e - Cheers for the advice but Tim Boutique hotel seems to be fully booked on our dates.

I understand Soi2 isn't as lively as Soi 7 or 8. however just like nus01 said it is a very short bus ride away from all of the (filthy) key attractions.

Location is a key point, but you don't know about Soi Metro area

 

If you didn't need a pool, Irish Rovers is the place to go, hospitality is #1 and location is the best

You have to be very careful not to have a room near to the bars, thai girls can get very jealous, such as if you have taken one from a bar near to your hotel, then you come back to your room with other girls.

Transport is very cheap and plentiful, stay just off the beaten track.

 

Sandy springs is a good location, a quiet soi and a short walk for the baht buses depending which way you want to go. A nice cheap bar at the end of the soi, Wonderful bar, just drink there but not take lady.

Gus, you said it right. I have stayed at Flipper many times, used to be my favorite, then switched to Sandy Springs. I've stayed at the Sunbeam, Sunshine, Eastiny, Areca, Lek, and Diamond Beach hotel, (this one I use as shortime rm., when I'm on the walkingstreet shagathon), to name a few. Of all these for location and overall satisfaction Sandy Springs takes it hands down. Much quieter than flipper, where even on the top floor, the thump thump bass lines don't stop till 4 Am. Sandy is situated not too close to the beer bars, though a quick walk to the baht bus or to 2nd rd.

 

Look at Sandy Spring websites and decide for yourself. The seaview deluxe is a must however. My problem with Sabai Lodge was always the lack of view.

You have the Kum Punn pub outside the front door, all the bars in Sois 1, 2, 3 and 4, the three soapies, the Big C shopping centre, a multiplex cinema, a huge choice of restaurants etc etc probably within the same distance as it is from the Flipper to the top of Soi 8.

I agree with Tom. It's a great location and somewhat less noisy then soi 7 & 8. You won't go wrong staying there.

First and only time I stayed on a Soi 8 hotel was NOISE disaster.

 

With all the bars on that soi, the din in the whole area will drive some nuts!!

As it did me.

 

Quiet is as quiet does.....go out and play and rent-a-chick if your so inclined......then go back to your digs of choice and enjoy some quiet.
