Pattaya bars to be allowed open 24 hours for High Season?

Recommended Posts

Pattaya Bar owners are becoming excited following news that venues in some areas may be allowed to open 24 hours a day during the High Season months. A meeting led by Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya, of local bar owners was held at Pattaya City Hall on Wednesday Afternoon. He explained that rules governing the operating of bars had to be strictly adhered to, such as no admittance for patrons under 20 and no employees could be under the age of 18. Better control of drugs and weapons within licensed establishments must take place. A letter is now being prepared and will be sent to the Interior Ministry to ask for a special zone to be created for Pattaya where bars can open 24 hours a day. For now the licensing only permits bars to be open until 2am, however most bars are being allowed to open later. It is hoped the new 24 hour license will stop some of the alleged corruption involving local government officials and Police Officers which was highlighted by delegates during the meeting.

a good idea if tehy want to encourage bad behaviour. enough problems at 4am as it is with drunks. Now we will have to condend with more of them at 9 am. Enough of a paucity of good looking girls now. who are they going to find to work at 7am in a bar.

The whole and sole potential benefit of this proposal surely lies in the final sentence of the OP: "It is hoped the new 24 hour license will stop some of the alleged corruption involving local government officials and Police Officers which was highlighted by delegates during the meeting."

It's irrelevant whether bar-owners actually stay open 24 hours - the point is it would stop the uncertainty, shake-downs, abitrary arrests and sheer extorsion exercised by people in a position to make life difficult for bar-owners and line their own pockets. Whether it will happen is one thing (I'm not holding my breath), but surely it is desirable for that one reason alone.

If you run a bar/agogo in Pattaya you are literally at the mercy of not-very-nice people who have earned or purchased positions of power over you, and that should stop for the good of both the business owners and their customers (to whom the costs of doing business are passed on). This would be one way to crop the wings of the corrupt. Gets my vote, certainly.

In the UK we can now apply for 24 hour license - hardly anybody does - what it does do is allow bars to open later - good thing in my book - i left a certain bar associated with a small fruit several times at 7-8am - that was alot of hours I was drinking water tee hee

Actually the opposite happens for a number of reasons

1.Instead of a huge group of drunk people pushed out on to street at same time in large numbers. You get a trickle out effect.Less drunks in a small are = less trouble

2. People not rushing in last couple of drinks in short amount off time before closing, people drink at steady pace.Less very drunk people at ounce on street = less trouble

3. Not a huge wait on transport for people to get home,so no big groups of drunk people annoyed at long waits = less trouble

Sometimes things are NOT what people first think,or what certain people push who have certain agendas.

As Bushcraft also mentioned.

No extortion from certain people therefore less cost to bar = Bar can offer less charges to customers

24hr liciences in designated tourists areas are a very good idea for many reasons

I'm really just guessing here, but I suspect the push to allow 24 hour opening comes from the places like Insomnia, Mixx, Lucifers, Candyshop, Torus, JP Bar...all the late night venues that cater to customers after 3-4am. They'd love to stay open till 7am/8am, but after that time, every bar in Pattaya can open.

So, it's really a push to get another 4 or 5 hours of open time for the late night crowd.

Most bars, even the latest night gogos, need to let their staff go home at 4am or so,, or pony up for another shift.

Ain't gonna happen.

It's all about late night discos.

Would the FLB stay open 24/7 and does it make good business sense to do so?

I wish they would close all bars by 1.00am so that the girls would be more eager to find a many earlier, I hate looking for a girl after 2.00am

I'm going to agree with you for a change, far more shit don't stink at a reduced price opportunities the earlier we get these pole hugging venues closed for the night.

I've said before; open out the windows and put a drinking terrace out there, it could be a good daytime drinking spot.

No way will FLB be anything other than an evening bar. I have one shift of staff, I like them, they work a decent shift. I'd not want to add another shift. If you want 24 hours, you can find it somewhere...maybe not in the same place, but there will be bars open.

I personally doubt there is anything to this petition, nor will it happen.
