I don't feel inferior for staying in low cost accommodation

Recommended Posts

When I was young and silly I treated farang ladies to weekends away in plush 5* hotels, these hotel rooms cost a bomb but I did not sleep any better.

I remember staying in one hotel where they charged us extra for changing the knife/fork and spoon at dinner in the restaurant.

I came to conclusion that these places were for daft people that wanted to waste money ..... if you have money to burn give it to charity.

The snobs on this board look down on those that don't waste money like we are somehow inferior.

I do not travel 6000 miles to stay in a cockroach infested dump but I don't look down on those that because of economic circumstances choose to do so.

On all my trips I constantly look out for better value accommodation, I do this to break the monotony of my daily exercise walks, I like to discover new places.

The only place that I have seen that I considered paying over 1000 was Nova Gold on my last trip(1500 baht per night) but it is awkward to get to.

It makes no sense to me to stay in the Dusit or Marriot in Pattaya surrounded by pretentious snobs that look down on you as a whore monger.

I do not like guesthouses over bars because I have to pass by the girls working there, there are many quite superb guesthouses in LK Metro most notably Armageddon.

There are many apartment complexes offering quality full service accommodation to longerterm guests in the 700-800 baht per night bracket.

Many quality hotel rooms are available for 1000 but if you look around and negotiate you will get superb rooms for about 1000 to match the so called 5* star hotels.

This is the cheap charlie "dump" that I am staying in for 1000 per night in high season.

sure the rooms in the expensive rooms may be nicer but is the internet free and can you bring back multiple ladies at no extra charge, did I mention that there were surveillance cameras everywhere.

I have found and even better cheaper place for my next trip by walking about and checking places out.

Personally I could care less what the forum snobs think. I stay where I like. Eat where I like. Drink in the bars that I like and pay for the BG that I like.

Looks outstanding. I usually stay at a place that I find cheap as possible. All I'm going to do is sleep and shower anyhow. I try to keep it below 500 a day.

Given the state of the places that most bar girls live in (and probably grew up in), trying to impress them with a fancy expensive room is a waste of money.

Some folk might not care about cash, while others may feel more secure in "high-end" accommodation. Whatever, it's your money and it's up to you how you spend it.

I recently had a friend from Houston who earns a mint with Schlumberger come to visit me. This was his fourth trip, and previously he'd stayed in the side streets off Walking, places like the Top Thai hotel in Soi White Rose. This time he wanted to stay in a guest house near the condo where I live in Jomtien, so I booked him into the Comeback Inn, run by an English guy called Phil. It's 500 Baht a night for a very nice room, and he was quite happy there. This guy is probably earning not far short of $200K/year, plus his American live-in works as well, yet he sees no point in chucking money away on overpriced 5-star hotels that disdain mongers.

Looks a really nice place, id have no problems staying there.

Where i am coming from as examples like yours above show how cheap quality accommodation is , yet crappy rooms above a noisy bay can be virtually the same price or a few dollars less.

The difference between a really nice place or a dump can be $100 over 2 weeks.

Most of us are here on holidays , so why wouldnt you want a little luxury in your life.

Good find. I have paid 1000 - 1200 for places a lot less nice. LK Mansion was one of them that comes to mind.

Anyway, by many peoples standards you have money to burn. I never begrudge anyone who enjoys the finer things in life, even if the price is not proportionate

If I'm staying put for a week or more I prefer a one bedroom and end up paying more, but that's just my personal preference.

If I had money to burn I would fly first class, as I already give to charity :whistling:

This room looks perfectly acceptable to me for the money it represents - I'd prefer a little more counter space around the sink, but at least it has a screen of some type for the shower, I don't like those open concept bathrooms where the shower water gets the whole room wet.

Nice place and at a great price... nice going.

I've stayed at both of these places many times, and I don't see the snobbery at all. In fact, they have treated me just fine, and I get smiles when I bring my latest over. Also, there is a bunch of mongering going on at the 'malliott', as I've seen the stack of ladies IDs kept at the security elevator at least an inch thick or more.

You gonna keep us all in suspense as to the name of this place?

It's the Soi 2 Inn Serviced Apartments, next door to the excellent Sabai Inn (where the Welkom Inn used to be). 1k per night seems to be a reasonable price for the area - in line with the Sabai Inn.

Thanks for that. They do look nice. Is it me or did you post this before on another thread?

Somebody else did but I don't think dontcha was keen on naming the place. However, since he posted the view of Northshore and the arse end of the A1 Royal Cruise, it let the cat out of the bag. It'll be interesting to see if the place matches the Sabai Inn's low season rates - could be a bargain at 700/800 Baht a night. Personally, I like the area and the Sabai places tend to have something to fit most budgets.

Thanks for that. The published rate is well over 1000 however I see that there is a good rate for a monthly stay. At 1400 per night off peak for the Soi 2, I will still be staying at the Sabai Inn if they have it for 830 again next year.

I note that the hotel write up says nothing about a safe.

1000 per night is a negotiated rate with the manager for a longer stay. ... 1400 is the walk in rate.

Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate.

Safes in room are excellent.

You used to slag me off for staying at the Jasmien Manision!

I stay in cheap GHs. Wouldn't stay above a bar.

Skyslops was only booked as it was the only place with vacancies ( go figure!) back then , on 5th December, and a BM lied that it was newly refurbed. It's usually JP Court, Jasmine Mansion level of budget GHs as I wouldn't pay 30k a month for a few months and don't use pools. But since Kevin got buped out the Jasmine, I am still looking for a reasnoable place. Maybe Jomtiem next trip if I don't stay in Bkk.
