I want to open a account over here and be able to manage it from England online so does anyone know how easy it is to do and how. Any help would be appreciated.

I am with the Siam Commercial (Purple)

Their online facility is very good, to open it you will need passport (I had O Visa) and a letter/note from where you are staying.

Mind you I went in one first with a card or the place I was staying, a cheap guest house I was wearing a Singha vest dressed for beach the girl said "no you dont live here"

So I went back to the digs put a shirt and some strides on , wrote the address on paper then went to another branch and opened it...

They send an SMS every day with the balane and any transaction I get an SMS, very good indeed when I sent money Swift from a UK bank they gave me the chanve to wait a day if I thought the rate would get better.

I would not hesitate to recommened them, they recently gave me a wall calender and a desk one I use the one opposite Tops on second road.

Good luck

I would also recommend Kasikorn Bank. They seem to be pretty lenient about opening accounts for people without visas (30 day stamp), and they have a good online account management system.

They were also giving away free condoms with a Kasikorn Bank logo :clueless

Not really the best of marketing ideas, "I was shafted by Kasikorn" :D

Been using SCB (Siam - the purple one) for 18 months now and they're great.

The online access is easy to use, no accouont keeping fees (they even pay interest - small but better than nothing) and you can have multiple accounts and link them together with internet banking. This allows you to move money from a primary account into one (or more) accounts for your teelack/s.

They have a branch in Tuk Com and branches all over the place. Signing up on a 30 day visa is a bit hit and miss however - just bring evidence of your rent and passport etc and most of the time it's OK.

If you can get an official rental receipt you can go to immigration on Soi 5 at Jomtien and get a residence certificate (200 or 400 baht, I forget) and this will guarantee you an account when you apply.

Other thing too is ALWAYS transfer money into your account from overseas in your sending currency (ie Oz dollars if from Australia) as the exchange rates they give for TTs are better than the money exchanges.

Cheers :allright: Admiral Ken

My phrasing was ambiguous. I meant to say that "In addition to SCB, I would also like to recommend Kasikorn"

Ok, the condom thing ran for a few weeks earlier this year. I tried some just to see what it felt like to fuck someone like a bank does.

Sorry MM,

How would I find out about my online access for my Kasikorn account? go into the branch? didnt realise I would have that facility!

There is a form you need to fill out. I think it's available on the site. You may be able to mail or fax it to the branch for online access.

Edit in:

Here is the description of the service and application process http://www.kasikornbank.com/EN/ServicesCha...berBanking.aspx

They do say you have to sign the form in the presence of a bank officer.

Do you know how much Kasikorn Bank charge you to do an online transfer from a account in England to my thai account?

I don't, because the transfer shows up as a single amount in my account, and it's not itemized at all...no exchange rate or transfer fees shown.

I did hear it was 500b somewhere, but I don't recall the source.

Agreed, you have to sign up for it. I was asked if I wanted online access when I opened my kasikorn account and filled in a form with my e-mail details etc.

Ahhh, a sperm bank. So they don't offer a withdrawal service.

I have had an account with the Bangkok bank for years....

When I went in recently they told me I could apply for a credit card (after they tried to sell me insurance).

I have never had the internet facility as years ago it was a zenophobic Thai only facility, but I recently checked and you can apply for it via the ATM machine, which I will have a go at soon.

With my Kasikorn on line account I can also transfer money to other bank accounts, even accounts with other banks. this is how I pay the rent on my room when I am not here. You need to set it up while you are here tho, as they send you a code via SMS to input on-line and you wont get the sms if you are out of thailand. You can also get them to send you an email with the info in it, but you need to organise that with the bank while you are in thailand.
