Where can i get a good curry in Pattaya / Jomtien.

 

I am new to town and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I personaly have never been to an indian restaraunt thats british style.The best indian curries i have teasted are mine,and a company who sells wholesale to a friend of mine so i get the jalfrezi at wholesale price,and very nice tooe

The very best Indian i have had in Pattaya was on Pattaya new plaza.

 

Afew years since ive been(bloody credit crunch)

 

Defo worth looking to see if its still there.

 

Approach New plaza from 2nd road,take the right hand lane and it was about 30 yrds up.

Tikka Centre place on Soi buakhao (opposite soi Honey inn) does great British type curries. Can recommend the Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Tikka Marsala. Reasonable prices about 150 baht. Crazy Dave's on Soi chaiyapoon also does reasonable curries not quite as good but cheaper.

its a cracking Indian restaurant opposite mak mak bar in pattaya new plaza.

most of the customers are Indian's so it must be cheap as chips.....

If its the same one as i suggested its definately not cheap.

If you want English style curries ,then try NeeRoys in soi Chiapoon (just opposite Crazy daves)Nee learned the art of Curry making at an award winning Indian restaurant in Halifax (IIRC)Nee and Roy supply many other places with their curry on a wholesale basis so you may already have tasted it.It is a very well priced place and a very friendly one as well.

PS It actually has a large yellow sign outside that says, ENGLISH STYLE CURRIES,so its hard to miss.

My opinion is English style means,curries that have been developed to suit English tastes,cooked in a more or less authentic style.

 

Neeroys is slightly different,his curries though very tasty are more the consistancy of a thickish gravy and not authentically prepared.Dont get me wrong i have had many curries at Neeroys and never been disappointed.In fact i love them and they indeed excellent value ie a curry with rice app. 160B ish,for quite a large portion.

I think Layla's on Soi 16 Walking Street is very good. Unfortunately (for some), it's not English curry...it's actually authentic Indian curry.

I call "English style" the curries that I buy in England.I have no idea what you mean if its something different from the curries you can buy in England then surely its not English style.I do agree that personal taste will play a large part in anyone's enjoyment of any kind of food ,and I am a very choosy eater and I do not eat curries very frequently,but I do wonder what you mean by English Style as that's what I buy locally (in ESSEX)and that's what NeeRoys offers.I am afraid the nearest I have gotten to Authentic Indian food was when I flew Kingfisher Air.The food was excellent ,but much less spicy than I am used to.

Haven't been in for a couple of months so you may be correct. Will have to try it again soon and report back here.

English style to me are curries made using the ingredients used by the sub continent but varied to fit English tastes.

 

It is well known that most people from "India"(i use " " to indicate those from the indian sub continent)do not eat the very hot curries that the English love,me especially

 

Going back to Neeroys,when i first ate there i loved the flavour,but the texture and colour were nothing like ive ever had before.One ingredient he definately doesnt use and there may be others is Ghee,an essential ingredient if cooking Indian food authentically.

 

But hey this is getting much too heavy,ill be there in 6 days enjoying Neeroys curries along with any others i can hunt out.Along with all the other,more interesting delights of Pattaya. etc.

I think Layla's on Soi 16 Walking Street is very good. Unfortunately (for some), it's not English curry...it's actually authentic Indian curry.

If this is the place that is upstairs above the tailor shop-it is very good. I love my Indian food and i think this place is the best Indian food i have eaten in Thailand for the 7 years i have been here. The owner is a really friendly man and will adjust your meal to suit your tastes. It is reasonable and i always like to eat Indian food in an Indian restaurant, so this is the place. I have had the curries from Neroys, but they are not as authentic as Laylas.

I might say it seemed more like an Indian cafe than a restaurant....

Yes it was cheap, but I felt concerned I may regret eating there later....

As it was, no problems.

Went there Saturday night, Food as good as ever. Same cook that I remembered. Didn't get a cracked plate.

They may have opened up a new restaurant as only had half of the staff that used to be there. Didn't ask them.

i do enjoy indian food but have never tired it in pattaya yet, mainly cos i dont want to spend alot of time on the toiet. There is one indian restarant i want to try and thats Abi baba's on pattayaklang just off the 2nd rd turn off.

I have noticed 2 more on my waking expeditions

 

1/ I think its called red chilli,head up 3rd south north from klang,and when u get to a snooker hall turn right,which can lead to the back entry to carparking at carrefor,then left after 20 meters,which leads onto the new estate,cant miss it,a big place.I heard they do a buffet for 200 baht but not tried yet

 

2/ pakwhan on 3rd going south from klang,and on your right,about 1 k and looks a small place but the menu looks quite good
