each time they bring a slip. sign it or initial it. Than if one isnt signed you'll know and you can point it out

Yes, an old recommendation that perhaps was SOP in the Philippines......

I gave it a go once, but after several beers I started to forget to do it which somewhat defeated the object.

It may make them move on to...adding up the total wrong or just returning insufficient change.

It really isn't that bad these days, it is just so much easier to hit the bin of the guy buying for everyone........ and many places have the itemised computer billing.

'Had the server in Babydolls ask me for a LD as I was buying a couple for the two girls I was sitting with. I made it a point to clearly say No (cause I was pretty sure I knew what was going to happen next). Sure enough, she got one for herself anyway, and when she put the check in the cup I lifted it out immediately, saw that I'd been charged for it, pointed it out and asked to have it removed, and initially just got the "confused" look. I simply handed it back to her asking her to please fix it, whereupon she said she couldn't change a check, and went to get the Mamasan. MS set it right, but she made sure I understood that SHE would have to pay for it - about which I could've cared less.

Stuff like this hasn't happened to me very often at all, but you do have to watch.

Yeah, I suppose it was easier with the separate tabs per drink...rather than having to squint at the itemised bill in the black-light.

I don't remember it being hard to read, but I THINK I remember the MS saying even SHE couldn't change a bill, and actually paid me the cash (not sure I remember now exactly what transpired in that regard - I know she made it right, but can't remember how she got around not being able to expunge it from the bill). I think maybe I just "caught up" the bill and she added the amount in dispute to my change.

I don't remember it being hard to read,....

I never take out my reading glasses, I lose things. Her indoors says she won't be lending me any more umbrellas when I go out.

So now I will buy one each time on the way back and present it to her saying thanks for the loan. :D

Babydolls is one of my favorite gogos, and I'm surprised the staff would do that, although they are notorious for being VERY pushy for drinks. I'd have done the same thing, she should not have gotten herself a drink without permission.

Yes, it's one of mine as well (and I'll definitely be going back, too; and would recommend the place). I consider the episode completely anomalous, and I know it was dealt with. I was just making the point really that it doesn't really matter much where you are - always best to stay up with what's going on around you. Pattaya is probably not the best place in the world to get into the habit of taking things for granted.

Of all the times I've been in Pattaya bars, I've only noticed being overcharged once or twice. Then again, maybe I was a little bit drunk and didn't remember how many beers I'd had. All in all, I'd say there isn't much to worry about.

I think you handled that correctly and the mamasan did as well. It sounds like a fair resolution between the bar and yourself. Now I ask, 75% in jest, was it fair for all parties concerned including the waitress?

1. She had to pay for the drink for herself, did she get the commission?

2. She paid for the drink so did she get to sit down and drink it with the purchaser?

3. Did she get an employee discount on top of her commission?

4. Did she drink all of it with herself, or leave it half full and get another drink from another customer?

5. Did she give herself a tip for serving herself? I hope she did not over tip.

6. Since she became a customer, did she buy one of the other girls a lady drink?

:bhappy

The life of a waitress is so complicated. Oh well, just some mindless pondering while I attend to the mundane life in the high dessert of Afghanistan. :glare: February never looked so far away. Maybe i can make it there in January :whistling:

Other way round this is to pay for every drink as and when it arrives.

Only had a bill padding problem once and that was in Philippines at Sabang Beach, I pointed it out at it was sorted out straight away

Same thing happened to me in BabyDolls, but I let it go after first getting the 'confused' look and then one of disdain. I didn't return for awhile, but am now back...on occasion.
