Thanks. I'd have considered the Pink Apartment, except it's one of those showers that's over the toilet bowl. Mosaic is still the front runner for me.

You could always sign up for the one year lease and leave your deposit behind. Just depends on how much they want for a deposit. I left ONE month early from Chiang Mai and my beeyotch of a landlady k

I had no problems walking back to the condo. There are a number of gay bars on the way. Like I said, I had no problems day or night.

Not particularly helpful as I was looking from some comments from people that actually knew the area and could advise if it is safe or otherwise.

There you go - BigD reckons it was OK around 10 years ago. What more do you need?

Apart from that, there was a thread about the place last month - if you look it up, it may answer your concerns. :thumbup

It's a bad area these days. Many drugged up gays and lady boys alongside dodgy types of dubious national background. Dark streets that don't look any fun to navigate in the wee hours. Horribly run-down condos in which I wouldn't kennel a dog. Don't give it 10 seconds' thought.

You bring up some good points. Unfortunately the same could be said for many of the streets in Pattaya. One thing to remember. When one is looking for cheap lodging. They tend to not be in the upscale parts of town.

Thanks Evil. That is the sort of no nonsense, no bull shit response I was looking for.

I perhaps don't know it too well as I don't venture around there.... these days....

I recall it from years ago and back then would not like to have been wandering around, getting back to my room, late and drunk (often the case).

I think Mr Evil has put it well enough.

Thanks to all the those that have been responding to this thread.

Looking at the usual booking sites such as Agoda and Sawadee I believe that prices are on the rise and perhaps more people in the future will be looking at alternatives. The following are some of the points that my research have bought up.

Apartments and condos under say 20000 baht a month are hit and miss if you look at the reviews and check the map for the location. For instance the best buy by far was the Yensabai apartments but the neighbourhood seems so difficult that I have stopped considering it.

The reviews are enlightening and the problem is to know what is real and what is not. One place I saw had only 2 reviews and one was 1 out of 5 and the other was 5 out of 5 so go figure.

The rental agencies seem dreadful to deal with at a distance in that the terms and conditions some impose are draconian. You have toll of a lot of digging only to find that the lease is for a year, needs 3 months deposit and will only accept cash and so on and on.

If you are not interested in finding your way back to Jomptien, Naklua or the dark side a look at Google maps is a must. Some of the places shown as being "Central Pattaya" are not!

I have researched dozens of places and I will keep looking but the moral of the story is clear. You need to bite the bullet and do the leg work while you are in Pattaya and not just rely on the Internet.

If you see a place advertised on the Agoda type agencies I would always Google the place and look at its own website.

I do believe that I will have to soften my insistence on a swimming pool and accept that it might be better to pay 100 baht for the days that I swim. This in itself will open up the search parameters.

This year alone I will have spent well over 100,000 baht on accommodation and that seems a bargain for a hotel (looking at the accommodation web sites) but if I want to keep coming to Pattaya at least 3 times a year I need to keep the search going. I do still believe that this is where this forum is very useful and worth the occasional irritation. I still look forward to suggestions.

Always happy to help.

1. Type "Yensabai" into the search box at the top right of the page.

2. Set to search Forums.

3. Click the Search button.

4. On the list of results, it's the first thread below this one.

Easy peasy. :thumbup

I was having that very thought only recently as I watched advert after advert for yet another condo being built in 'central Pattaya'.

The other one is 'in the heart of Pattaya', which I guess means 'not in the centre'......

'Minutes away from' another good one, The only place minutes away from Walking St is Walking St.

I was coming here in the 80s and still think of Jomtiem and Naklua as different towns!

And certainly getting from a condo on Jomtiem 2nd Rd to walking Street you might think yourself some distance off stuck in the traffic.

You should perhaps waste some time searching out a good option on one of your trips, and when satisfied, stick to it. I did that for years with The Residence Garden and then Nova Park.

I still think this forum to be a good place to ask, someone will propose a good place.

Some areas may look too far out, but in reality, if they are on a baht bus route or near a main Rd, Tai, Klang or Nua, be actually easy.

Thanks but this thread which I did read tells you absoloutly nothing about the Yensabai Condos or the area that they surrounds them other than a general comment about lady boys. It is clear from Evils post that he has been in the Yensabai area of late but he again didnt mention the Condo's as there are other options in the area. Based on this look about he has given a heads up about the area and thats exactly what I was looking for rather than generalities.

Perhaps Cicero will come back with the promised report?

Well, absolutely nothing except that the condos were shabby and the guests were mainly Indian, Arab and Russian and the location was convenient for Walking Street. But, in the same thread, another BM described the units he was shown as being "fine" and "clean".

Well if the reason to avoid a place because it has Indian, Russian and Arab guests then you may as well stay away from Pattaya. I have been staying at one or the other Sabai properties for perhaps the last 3 or 4 years and there is a complete mix of all races and types. Very few Americans but plenty Germans, British and French. The only issues that I have seen were some Turkish guys felt that they were on a romantic date and decided that the pleasure of their company was better than money and refused to pay. Security soon sorted that out. My guess but on the basis that I am pool side nearly every day that at least 50 % of the Sabai clientele fall into the three race bracket above but I would without hesitation recommend the Sabai group to anyone.

Nobody, certainly not me, suggested they were/are a reason to avoid the place - only that they appeared to make up the majority of guests.

To quote from the report on my recent visit to Bangkok. Again no suggestion whatsoever that anyone should avoid the hotel ... if anything, quite the opposite.

"Just to finish off … a couple of comments about Bangkok. Native English speaking tourists in Bangkok appear to form a small minority in the 4/5* hotels. There were lots of west Asian muslims around (it was the week following Eid-al-Fitr) (confusingly many were speaking quite refined English in their groups), Indians and Russians. And contrary to what is often written, they were well-behaved, corteous and obviously not short of a few bob."

And? :clueless I am pretty familiar with the Sabai Group properties, having stayed at them for many years from 1999 when the Inn first opened and have recommended their properties several times on this forum starting from when I first joined this forum in mid-2002. I'm sure I have also done a few pictorial reports about the Inn. :thumbup

I agree CTom that you made a fair comment which you reproduced in your post.

But what about comments such as the above? "Dodgy types" I can understand and would like to avoid. But what about "dubious national background"? What is that? Are some national backgrounds less "dubious" than others? I have been led to believe that there are good and bad people in all nationalities, and I think most of us believe that.

Comments such as those serve no purpose - they simply detract from whatever point the writer is trying to make.

I would have believed what the writer was saying if that had not been included. Now? I simply disregard everything that is said in the post.
