This new BM is someone who deliberately joined this forum with the sole purpose of slagging off.   I have read the entire correspondence between this poster and Nam.   The real story is quite diff

There is no way I would consider that dishonest - You asked for a booking for 3 people and Nam responded with a quote for a SUV at 1800 obviously because she considered an SUV would be preferable for

Based on what I had read here, I booked Nam to bring me to Pattaya from Swampy earlier today.   Booking via email was very efficient.   Nam was waiting at the appointed place for me, and had no

Being a Tight arse and seeing her prices I'm getting the Bell bus at 350 Baht :ninja:

Not sure what you expected?

I doubt any taxi can match the bus price wise.

I don't think Nam's prices are excessive - but Mr. T is a bit cheaper.

I apologise if I seemed rude, it wasnt intended. I need to be pretty tight with money this time as I will be buying Jade in Burma a week or two later and need to save most of the money I can.

Just a point is Nams Taxi price per person or per vehicle ?

No need to apologize - I am a CC myself - just thought it can hardly be a surprise that a seat on the bus is cheaper than hiring a taxi.

Seeing as we are all admitting to being CC I will expand on the Bell Bus prices. Buy from their office or online and it is 250 baht. Buy from a Pattaya travel agent and it is 380 baht and I am sure that there are in between prices. They pick up and deliver to your accommodation as long as it is listed on their website. Suggestion is that if you know that you are going to use them book from home as it is easy down load and print the tickets although a ticket is not essential to get to the transfer station. One last point. I was on Bell last week. I could set my watch on a 90 minute journey but they took is so gently that the trip took 105 minutes so if the extra transit time is an issue, beware. Seems that they are trying to save gas and run more economically.

If you think 105 minutes is bad, my last trip after I caught a bus down to Pattaya from Ekemai Bus station in Bangkok and it took 150 minutes..Drove slow but the worst bit was as we were nearing Pattaya he pulled into an LPG station and then kicked us all off while he filled up with gas.

My wife has just arranged for us to be picked up by her regular taxi driver who has a newish airconned Minibus.

He'll collect us from the Hotel in Patts and take us to North of Kanchanaburi for 3500 Baht so were going for that now.

Cheap Charlie will also get the wife to pay him !!! (I Hope)

  • 3 months later...

Getting this thread back on track:

I haven't posted for a few months, since Nam's Taxi has taken a life of its own and is now well established, and growing steadily.

However.....

I just got the following message from Nam, with a request to pass it on to all BM:

As of now, until and including January 5, she will not be able to take anymore bookings. Many of her drivers take off a few days for New Year back in their village with family.

All current bookings for these days will be honored, but no new bookings accepted.

Anyone who who wants a booking for January 6 onwards is welcome to contact her, most of her drivers will be back on deck by then.
When you are trying to contact her between tomorrow and January 2, for bookings from January 6 onwards, you may not get immediate reply as usual, but may have to wait a day or so, since she will also be in her village..

And she asked me to wish you all a wonderful New Year!

Another Public Service Announcement:

The Utapao Airport Authority has announced that no private taxis can be used to pick up passengers or drop off passengers from Utapao airport, those that do will be charged 500 baht.

Since most of Nam's drivers fall into that category, she will not be taking any requests anymore for service to and from Utapao.

Those who want to go to Utapao are advised to ask their hotel to order a official taxi. Those arriving at Utapao are going to have to take an airport taxi there. Expect higher prices.

How do they determine if a vehicle is acting as a "private taxi"?

What happens if a friend or relative gives one a ride to the airport?

Think if they see a car roll up with passengers in the back and only the driver in the front the assumption is taxi. A few years ago they tried the same thing on at BKK. Driver just asked that I sit in the front seat to give the illusion of a friend driving me to the airport.

This restriction was attempted at Bangkok numerous times and ultimately failed.

I was once told to claim the driver was my brother-in-law if we were stopped.

I still get picked up by such a 'taxi'.

Sounds like taxi-mafia tactics again and we may get the usual 'no insurance' justification.

A clue may be when the driver stands looking out at a meetings point with a name on a sign ,

Joe

There's that, but I was thinking about arriving in a car with a friend or relative.
