Now you didnt hear this from me as I didnt hear it from someone at Thai but.

TG fares wont drop in the near future.

Why?

Because as I surmised previously, TG are really raking it in transporting food to Qatar so any empty seats just means more cargo weight.

Its a win win for Thai

You would think Qatar Airlines would get in on this... they most certainly are offering some low fares lately.

Bit confused here. How do empty seat to USA, UK, Australia or indeed anywhere but Doha work in transporting food to Qatar?

Because a lot of food is goint IN to Thailand from various countries then being Trans shipped out to Qatar. Thai are raking it in.

Silly me. That blockade must be biting bad especially considering the amount of flights direct to Doha that the food could be put on before having to route it through Thailand.

You misunderstand. Flying in to a country is one thing. To retain those Traffic rights they HAVE to keep flying in, but though they fly in they dont want to be upsetting the Saudi's and breaking the embargo by flying shitloads of food and supplies into Doha. You can bet your left nut that the Saudis have their spies and agents at Doha Airport watching who and what goes in and Thai simply dont care.

If you check your newspapers a few weeks back it was even mentioned that Thai were raking it in running food rice and veggies into Doha.

Well I for one am not shocked that Thailand might be selling rice to Qatar but I doubt they are importing it from the UK by bumping up the price of passenger seat prices.

I surrender, its just not worth explaining

GP, if TA is misunderstanding, could you spell it out, please.

I tried to spell it out a little but he, she or it fails to comprehend the way traffic moves around the world and the way certain companies will raise or lower their seat prices dependant on revenue.

Simply check Thai fares pre Qatar embargo then check them 2 weeks after when the cargo trans shipment deal was done.

That explains everything. I'm out.

I do have contacts in the travel and flights industries that sometimes gets me info that isnt usually available and I try to keep some people advised about fares and rates but it looks like those advisories are pointless now so I wont bother any more.

  • 1 month later...

OK Guys, I'm back from Thailand.

I used to love Eva, but for me they are too popular and now with the 3-4-3 and less bogs it's TG for me. :)

I flew out on a Tuesday hoping the TG917 flight with the A350 was not too full, in spite of looking at seat availability just a few days before, the flight was virtually full, I did manage to get a seat with nobody next to me so that was the best I could hope for. I loved the 350, the seats seemed a lot better and roomier than the 777 or 380, I am a big falang and my knees never touched the seat in front, I loved the larger screens with the headphone sockets next to the screen instaed of trying to find them in the armrests. The temperature and lights etc seemed fine and it looks like 917 and 916 next time for me.

On my return it was my debut on a 380, the seats were the old kind with the smaller screen, sockets in the side of the armrests and in 3-4-3 not overly spacious. It was quiet and there were plenty of toilets as i was sitting in the back section, I'm sorry but the 380 didn't hit the spot for me. There were a number of empty seats on the return flight and I sat in D row and there was a Thai lady on G so that worked out OK.

When checking in at BKK the CSA guy put a priority baggage tag on my case, I initially though it was cos he took a shine to me, but it was because I am now Silver FF whatever that means.

Nice to hear about the A350 I "prefer", using the night -time flights from LHR to BKK...but as they used to use the 777s............I used to use the mid-day flight from LHR..........As it uses the A380

I may well fly on the a350 in October next year....

Im already booked on the A380 for January.

Silver FF means you have reached the "next tier!" of frequent flying...I "think" you get this if you fly 15,000 miles in a 2 year period..........or something like that!

I forgot to mention that on the A380 I was 4 rows from the toilets at the rear of the aircraft yet I could still hear the flushing very clearly, normally it is only a couple of rows that are noisy.

Once, I think it was on BR068 I managed to wangle 3 seats to myself, then after take off a couple told the flight attendant that they were seated seperately and wanted to sit together, yes, youv'e got it, mine were the only 2 together so I finished up flying to BKK in a window seat trapped in by 2 other pax. :)

I couldnt sit in a window seat even if the flight was free. Gotta be aisle so can get up as and when without disturbing anyone. Only thing that bugs me is a lot of women wont put their gear in the overheads but pile it around their feet. Fine if stays in their space but any incursion into my space and it gets quickly kicked back lol

marley, Well done Sir! Did you pay the next higher fare to secure a seat up top? I am wondering now that I am Silver if that would let me go upstairs if I was 'All Smiley' on check in.

Up stairs at the back is still economy and if you book through Thai website, you can pick those seats as well.

I sat in the exit row halfway along bu near the toilets and I couldn't hear the flush - better quality noise reducing headphones perhaps? :D

I did pay the higher fare yes.

The main reason I paid the higher fare, was, by doing so, I would attain silver status.

I booked on Thais web-site...Im pretty sure, Silver means you can book a seat upstairs.Perhaps worth looking on their web-site to book it upstairs?

Im too mean to pay business class fares!.........I wish though. that Thai would have introduced premium economy seats, on the UK flights

I'm sure up stairs is better than downstairs, well it is in Downton. :) It's just the seat comfortability and pitch plus the size of screen etc means that I prefer the A350 over the 380.

I hope to go again the end of January beginning of February so I will make my mind up nearer the time.

FWIW, If the flight is not full do TG tend to have more free seats per passenger upstairs rather than downstairs if you see what I mean, such as leaving upstairs economy for higher grade economy tickets plus maybe Silver Royal Orchid members?

Are the same fares available when phoning TG London as they are on the airlines web site? I think with Eva, it wasn't always so.

Im "hoping!" that there will be more spare seats upstairs as opposed to downstairs..

I doubt it though!.... I think , Ive only had a spare seat next to me , on 2 occasions with Thai........On one memorable trip with Thai......I had 3! seats to myself... inbound and outbound!

I have been booking my tickets with West East travel for years now........But the last two times...Ive booked on Thais website..They are a few quid more , than using West East...but I prefer it.

Never tried phoning TG in London to book flights..

The upstairs seats do not appear to be 'reserved' for anyone, i.e. it doesn't matter if you have silver status or whatever - they are open for anyone.

If you ring Thai Airways to book, they will quote you a higher price than the website, so you end up booking via the website anyway.
