OK, I just bought my ticket for my next visit.  I am flying EVA in t heir Evergreen class.  Including taxes and transposrt from Phoenix to LA, my ticket price is $914.50.

 

I'm happy with this rate.   Wish there was a non-stop from the US though.  This trip is killing me.

I got a quote on Monday from Ann at Angel Travel

http://www.angeltravel.com for my Dec. 27 departure from LAX with a 6 mo. return date and the fare is US$891 plus $65 (taxes & airport security fee) for a total $956.

 

This too is the Evergreen Deluxe class seating and is a low season weekend fare as the 27th is a Friday.  I'm spending Chrismas with family but I want to be in Phuket for the last days of Bill and Bruce's Paradise Bar at Patong (next to the Holiday Inn).  Their lease is finished Dec. 31 after 20 years running a very, very successful business.  I've been a customer since the early days of the bar and look forward to New Year's Eve when the bar gets demolished!  :-)

According to my travel agent you got a pretty good rate.  I am traveling in September return November.  My fare required leaving on a week day NOT a weekend.  It would go up to $968 for a weekend departure.

 

I was also told these routes cost more in December so I think you got a deal.

 

Sorry to hear about the Paradise Bar.  Can't honestly say I've ever been there but probably a nice place.

Yes, Paradise is really unique.  It started as an ex-pat bar and evolved into a tourist and tropical drinks place.  At one time very much a "lads" bar where the regulars all knew each other.  But, last March I was sitting with Bruce one of the two owners and he said to me, "You know something?  You're the only person in the bar I know!"  So, in a way it's time to close up as it's just not nearly as much fun as it once was.

ANA has a low economy rate of $650 plus tax out of IAD (Virginia) during September. Requests have to be 14 days before flight, so that would make 16 September the last day to take advantage. My ticket cost more than $700 with tax and another $25 for leaving on a weekend. There's a few hours layover in Narita, making the trip about 22 hours.  My Thai agent, Sirion, of TT & Tours (703 528-8861) handles my traveling.  Maybe ANA has other specials.  This is about $200 below ANA economy flights during low season.

I assume your CP flight doesn't include FF miles.  I did NYC-BKK on CP last year $613 all incl.  But no FF miles basically means no free third trip so you must keep that in mind (basically add $350 to your ticket price).  You can get NW for about $750 RT with the miles. I like CP better than NW, especially schedule, but can't pass up FF miles.

I just got my ticket on Cathay Pacific from LAX for $598.00 and included FF miles plus a 5000 mile bonus.

 

I called Angel Travel at the reccomendation of people on this board and they quoted a higher price without FF miles, at that time I was also considerating EVA and the price from them was more than from the EVA web site, so if you like to work with them I'm sure they are helpful, but if you want to look around you can sometimes a better price.

To get the 5000 mile bonus, you must purchase ticket online on their website and be a Cathay or American Airlines member.  If your a Cathay member. they send you monthly emails with all their special promotions.  This special 5000 mile bonus applies to all purchases made through 30 Jun 2003 with travel completed by 30 Jun 2004, however they only have a few seats available with the extra low fares so you need to book early and are probably  available during their low season.  Just got back yesterday from Pattaya, traveled on JAL and they are connected to American Airlines, but was told I would only get 70% of the actual miles because of my discounted ticket.  Better than nothing though.

Thanks, I am a AA member, and have about 31K FF, so one more trip means free trip next time.  I'm in the same boat with NW (about 42K miles) so angel travel deal of $750 RT sounded pretty tempting.  I like CP better, especially since they upgraded me last time from HK to Bsusiness! ;D

 

I get the CP emails, but all cheap trips seemed to be w/out FF miles.  I did see the 5K bonus though.  Thanks again and let me check the CP site for the deal you are speaking of.

Booked with the CP web-site and it was full AA miles, also very nice as you can pick your seat on-line so I got lucky and hve the first row of coach on the asile so pleny of leg room, good luck with what you need.

I used 20K FF miles and am paying $360 RT ($426 with all fees and taxes) from NYC.  Usually 60K FF miles for free RT ticket, this time only 20K for half price (Angel Travel was $840 with taxes RT).  

 

Very good deal, but must book quick as elligible seats go very quickly.

You might want to take advantage of the Cathay Pacific special for a future trip.  That would then give you sufficient miles for a free trip if they offer that 45K special next time.  Thanks for the info on the NW promotion.  I have around 25K in that account laying around and although I won't be able to take advantage of it now, I will check their website monthly to see if they offer it again in the future.  Did you get those travel dates that you mentioned earlier?

That's a pretty good deal, I probably would've paid the extra 300 to get 20K FF miles instead of having to use 20K. Same for the EVA deal Emil mentioned, I guess.  But probably better financially for me now to save the $300.  ::)

Yeah, the dates are actually a little better 11/23-12/8, because I leave on Saturday morning and return Sunday, so less vacation days required.  Angel Travel required I leave Friday morning.  I'm hoping to get to 46K on AA miles by next year using AA credit card and CP has their 50K offer (I'll get 4K off for booking on-line).  At least the ticket is on it's way.  

 

NW is not letting me request bulkhead seats until 24 hours prior, any suggestions as I'm 6'1" and don't want to get crammed between rows?

JAL wouldn't let me select my seat because it was a discounted ticket, but I arrived early at the airport because I caught a ride with my buddy who works for United at SFO and was the first one in line when they opened the counter.  I asked for an aisle seat and she asked me if I would be willing to set in the emergency exit row which I accepted.  I didn't have anyone in front of me for at least 8 ft except on take-off and landing when the flight attendants sat in their fold down seats about 5 feet in front of me.  I'm guessing that they don't allocate these seat until they can see you in person to ensure that your capable of assisting the flight attendants in case of an emergency.  I'm leaving on the 17th so it looks like we won't be able to check out Chicken, catwoman was gone when I visited the Buffalo bar this past trip.

I believe bulkhead seats are reserved for disabled and bassinets for babies until the last minute. Row 35 and 51 are emergency row seats on both sides of the plane on NW flights to Tokyo and BKK and you should be able to reserve with a phone call.

;D you might check united online. i have tickets from  kansas city to bkk for 721 us  total leave on sunday back on tuesday. if you can handle mid week return you mite beat price. this enconomy class. but if you get em. exit  it has room for legs. plus you get ff miles. good luck.

I'm not sure if the airlines have a plane with that kind of range.  It might require a modification of in-flight refueling which would then cost alot more.

I think Airbus is coming out with new planes in the next year that fly non-stop anywhere (28 or so hours in the air).  I read something on the last CP flight I was on.  I assume they will be expensive as hell to fly initially.  That would be nice, just put me in business class, recline the seat, and wake me up when we get to BKK.  :)

NWA has great promotion going on called Cash and Miles....I bought my ticket yesterday...R/T Boston to Bangkok ....i paid $474.50 and cashed in 20,000 flyer miles. Tickets must be purchased no later than Oct. 31st

 

Without the miles price was $711 R/T (Bos to BKK)

Thats a good deal - However they (NW) don't give you FF miles for that flight.  So the promotion is actually costing you the price ($474.50) + 37,000 miles (20,000 paid +17,000 you would have earned[ more for Elite members])  Then the $236.50 that you saved is actually costing you $437+ worth of miles.  That's why you will see the airlines offering this type of promotion on a regular basis - it gets you to pay for the flight AND use miles, while not earning any more miles.

 

Of course miles are worthless unless used and the NW NRT-BKK leg is almost impossible to get for free with FF miles.  So if it works for you - go for it.

 

BTW, the regular fares for NW have dropped a ton.  LAX-BKK is $600 + tax ($47) before 10/31, $700 +tax after.  The also have a new reservations site that they are testing:
