Why does masturbation get such a negative reaction?

Recommended Posts

First of all I am the husband half of "weareacouple" however my wife feels the same about the subject. We have been married for 25 years and we admitted early on that we were both addicted to sex. When we are together the sex is great however we both travel a lot and we both use porn and masturbation to get what we need. When we discuss it with our friends (especially church friends) most of them say it is wrong and even cheating on our mate. I would love to have an open and honest discussion on the subject. 1908732439_7(2).jpg.8588767a477ccfa5a5268169b10c9b5f.jpg

It's natural, healthy and everybody does it at one time or another. It seems to be one of those taboo subjects in society which really is "out of bounds". It isn't discussed within families, it isn't discussed during banter at work (as such), and it is rarely, if ever, discussed socially.

The consensus among people not wanting to say the "M" word, is that it is "dirty", the actual name from years ago "self abuse" implies that it is something that we shouldn't be doing, but it has changed now to "self gratification" which still has questionable connotations. Most people refer to it as masturbation or one of its many other names, but it still seldom discussed.

With society being as it is, the sheer amount of porn available online gives an indication that it is still a major pastime of many males, females and those inbetween. It is a default setting for people without a partner, and adds quality of a sexual encounter to those who have one, but masturbation is seen as fulfilling a need for many rather than something that can be shared between a couple, hence your "church friends" reaction.

Bottom line being, if you enjoy it, do it. There are no negatives in doing it to fulfill a need, meet a climax or enhance a relationship. Absolutely no point in spending your life doing stuff you don't enjoy, because there is more than enough time we spend doing that kind of shit.

Lastly, if that's your Mrs in the pic, her tits are epic.

Without commenting on the wider subject I have found it a reasonably normal conversation with Thai girls. I even had one Thai lady tell me that she was open with her son as she would rather he did that than get some teenager pregnant. I think we could be surprised how many Thai girls have a "Buzz Buzz" in the bedside cabinet.

For guys living in Thailand it is very easy to hire it done. Most massage parlors offer a happy ending.

Yes, it is a job one should not need to do yourself.

Like washing the dishes.

The cultural disapproval of masturbation in western society comes from the christian church's desire to control all parts of daily life. The christian church decided that sex and anything to do with sexual pleasure was evil, the "original sin" was sex and sexual pleasure. This goes into the idea that abstention as a way to glorify their god for the priest class has gone well for them  In cultures that are accepting of sex and sexual pleasure as a part of life also tend to see masturbation as a part of a normal sex life.

My old man always said "there are a billion Roman Catholics in the world who think masturbation is a sin. So there are at least 500 million Catholics feeling guilty every night..." And he's right.

I luckily come from a very sexually liberated family so have no time for prudes. Masturbation is good for you, simple as that.

I bought a version of a Fleshlight from Japan recently, best purchase ever. If anyone is interested I can dig out the name of it as it slips my mind right now. It wasn't cheap but well worth it.

I'm not sure I agree with this at all. It's very subjective. In the UK wanking is talked about all the time, certainly in my line of work (construction).

People hardly shut up about it at school and my old man is a dirty old bugger so he's never been ashamed of admitting to a 5 knuckle shuffle either.

As most things sexual, it is up to the person, if solo, or people involved.

I only care about my own sex drive and don't care what others do.

I have heard many guys describing in great detail their conquests and prowess. Give me a break. I hear general negatives, including about Thailand, from ignorant people. In general, people don't talk about sex. We hope everybody is getting laid but understand many don't. They still have sex drives that need attention from time to time. Asian massage or wanking or porn or whatever is going to happen and I give it little thought.

Please excuse me...
