As usual it’s started in Pattaya already I read. I think for those that want it fair enough but there are a lot of people who don’t who just want to go out for a beer or two. We have a lot of idiots these days in town just spoiling for a fighti saw it in one video yesterday. Who is at fault the Ferang prick with his long pipe gun or the spoiler looking for a brawl ?

The bar owners certainly have a responsibility setting up water for them and I don’t see it boosting their profits probably the opposite.

Me personally been around long enough and gone to Isaan but will be back before the big day which apart from the traffic is ok once in while.

When I lived there it was in View Talay I.  They have bars, restaurants and shops on the ground floor that open out onto the sidewalk, and water throwing is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.  That worked out very well, because I could escape the water without becoming a hermit or a nomad, but go out in it if/when I wanted.

Back when I owned a condo on Soi 13 between 2nd Road and Beach Road there was no way to leave and not get hammered.  Large groups of drunk farangs at both ends of Soi 13.  And they weren't there "celebrating" anything.  These invaders were complete assholes looking to screw up someone else's day.

Songkran in Isaan is fun.  In Pattaya it sucks.  And is way too long.

Too right - two years ago during Songkran I was staying  in View Talay 6 and one night when I was heading home around 10:30PM I encountered a group that was heading OUT to play Songkran - when I politely informed them that the water throwing was really supposed to end at nightfall they just looked at me like I was some kind of idiot; I had my fun back in the day during the festival when I could drink for days on end with no seeming ill effect but those days are long passed now - I tried it for a couple of hours last year and I just didn't enjoy it any more and will never partake again.

I agree, I saw one Vlog from a bar owner on how he was going to start things off on Saturday, 2 full days before official Songkran.  Hoping to boost weekend takings I expect.

The building I lived in last couple years had direct connect to the BTS/SkyWalk in Bangkok. I could restrict my exposure to Songkran by avoiding street level, water guns aren't allowed on the BTS.  I took these photos last year overlooking Soi 8.

Yep, it's not for me..sure I could enjoy a few hours 20 years ago when I wasn't quite such an old grump, but in recent years it seems a lot more malicious. If it's obvious you have no intention of wanting to be involved, then you become a target.

Places like koh Chang must do quite well out of it, as people make a run for somewhere less mental.

We need something like this in the USA. Let people battle with water pistols and watch the gun violence plummet.

The only really bad experience I had during Songkran was, while sitting on a baht bus a farang came from behind and dumped a huge bucket of ice water over me.  The water was so cold I couldn't breathe for several seconds.  This comes close to assault, IMHO.
