There's a post in the members bar the same subject, netflights used to be Airline Ticket Network and have booked with them every time the last few years as they usually have good deals with Etihad and Qatar. Just checked and plenty of availability if you are able to fly out the next week or two, price comes in at £402 inclusive, excellent value if you usually fly from London. I fly from Manchester but I guess a coach to Heathrow would be feasible-maybe they will qoute Manchester flights soon-I guess the planes are pretty empty at the moment-be warned though-you would arrive right in the middle of the rainy season, but if you don't mind that, worth going for.

Used to get roaches at the old Lek and AA hotels, have had mosquitos and the odd roach in Dusit Resort, just the nature of the place. Had tons of those tiny ants in a room at the Sabai Inn once, left a bag of donuts out one night and they were all over them in the morning-so I got into the habit of going to Big C to buy bug spray at the start of my stay just in case-a good spray round the usual areas did the trick. But I would certainly not put up with roach infestation on that scale, would move rooms,if still persisted, check out quick.

Had a mate last time staying in Charming Inn, took him to Sabai Inn to show him the place and my room, he couldn't believe how nice the room was compared to the one he had. Charming Inn rooms do have balcony (no in room safe), there is a nice pool and they serve breakfast, and it does have a great location, will be interesting to see what the new rooms are like and what the new rates will be.

Increased Hotel prices for high season ?
pauly77 replied to Daveuk's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
the rates for Sabai Inn seem to have gone up about 200 a night for both standard and superior rooms, partly I guess to pay for the new carpet! I have stayed there for the last few years and really like the place, not able to make it this year, but was thinking of trying somewhere new anyway in a new part of town when I hopefully return in 2009, and I guess those new rates have decided it for me-maybe look at Pattaya Bay resort,so long as they don't put the rates up as well. -
Room looks o.k,but no window and door to balcony not for me, I'm sure you could get better elsewhere low season for that price.
-
Definitely Queen Pattaya, with the open restaurant etc,an old hotel, usually advertises rooms on board outside for about 600,has specials off season. From what I've heard it's past its sell by date-but a good location for everything-best to have a look at rooms on arrival before booking as I would imagine they would always have rooms outside Xmas etc.

I usually stay Soi 2/3 area-I know the place from the front bar area in the pics-good location and the rooms look really nice for the price-the monthly rate is very attractive. No pool but you could walk round to Sabai Lodge and use their pool. I have been staying at BJ Lodge in same soi but that is blighted by construction next door at the moment. Will certainly look at Seaside guest house on my next trip-wonder how many rooms it has and what the difference is between standard and superior.

I stayed there a couple of times when I used to stay in Bangkok before coming to Pattaya,so going back 10 years now. I was able to stay in the towers section on the top floors with club room and personal butler etc, really nice rooms, bathroom etc and great views-the best Bangkok hotels are among the best in the world and good value too. But these days Bangkok doesn't interest me-it's straight to Pattaya for fun!

that link mentions a joiner rate of 400baht-ouch! always thought of it as more of a tour group place-better options elsewhere.

the ironic thing is the owner of the BJ had an option to buy that lot, which would have preserved the seaview, but the site cost more as it was nearer the beach road-bad decision in hindsight. My mate will be staying at Charming Inn the beach road side in a couple of weeks, will ask him to take some pics of the site to see how far building work has gone,as it started when I was at BJ back in May.

Just to give a mention to Mr Aan the day manager-good bloke who always remembers previous guests. If you are checking in and see him make sure he checks you in as he will sort you out a good room, unlike the (very pretty) reception girls. If you arrive early morning say 9 to 10,he will put you in a room straight away if available. If you are sending an email booking enquiry, mark it for his attention. The big screen tv in the foyer is great for watching Premier footy in the evening.

Wow-they are finally replacing those smelly old carpets! Would have preferred tiles as easier to keep clean and fresher. The low season rates are very good and you can choose standard or superior-they both have their pluses, for instance standard has a good big walk in shower whereas superior has bath with shower. Superior rooms are on the quiter lighter seafacing side, standard overlook noisy Thai pub and carpark. Superior have hairdryer and tea making facilities, topped up daily. Don't forget the voucher for a free coffee and cake each day-doesn't sound much but quite welcome. The outside terrace is very attractive and an excellent place to sit and watch the world go by. Again you can wait on the steps and pick up a baht bus right away. All rooms have excellent electronic safe. Use of pool across the road at Sabai Lodge.

When Qatar were offering flights for £380 in the summer the planes were full but Etihad have been undercutting them recently which is probably why the planes were less full. I found the seating better with Qatar,Etihad had the better entertainment system,I preferred Doha to smoke filled Abu Dhabi airport-all down to price really as both airlines offer good flight and connecting times.
-
never stayed there but ate there plenty of times-the food is excellent and good value-the place has entrances front and back and not a bad location as it is close to but not on Soi 6. The rooms look really nice-700 in high season would be good but in low season I would prefer Sabai Inn for same price with access to pool and in room safe.

Hotels with Remote controlled Air Conditioning
pauly77 replied to weaver93's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
BJ Lodge on Soi3 has remote aircon, Toshiba make, found it a bit cold for me as it is opposite bed,TG's were freezing so had to turn it off sometimes. Hotel nearer beach road than second road but only a two minute walk. -
Whats the best off season bargain?
pauly77 replied to teelack's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Sabai Inn on Soi 2,standard room now 700,superior 850,great location, good rooms with electronic safe, use of pools over road at Sabai Lodge, great staff, girl friendly,no restaurant but plenty of places to choose from-Big C just over road. -
Glad to see you have decided not to stay there-Royal Cruise caters for the mass Jap/Indian/Korean/Chinese market mainly and is certainly not guest friendly-I would have recommended BJ across the road but construction work is just starting next to it-courtesy of Royal Cruise!

Just got back after 3 weeks in Pattaya, flew with Qatar for first time at £383 ex Manchester, every leg was full as their price was much less than Etihad etc. On check in at Bangkok when admittedly the Etihad flight was 45 min later than ours, their check in was empty while Qatar was full, so perhaps that's why they are reducing their prices. A little bit of good news with Qatar, you don't need to pay the 700 baht departure tax,it is included, don't think that is with Etihad for instance. Doha airport was fine, better than Abu Dhabi in my opinion, also I never noticed anyone smoking, unlike Abu Dhabi where it seemed compulsory! One drawback was flying and arriving back on Saturdays from a chaotic Terminal 2 at Manchester as the charter holiday airlines use this terminal. This caused a delayed departure and as there was only a 1 hour connecting time in Doha,we had to run straight on to the connecting plane, didn't see the airport. Things looked even worst on the return flight as plane was at gate, departure time passed and an announcement was then made that due to technical problems flight was delayed and further announcement made in 2 hours, and voucher could be collected for sandwich! Worst case scenarios of missed connections,12 or 24 delays in Bangkok or Doha were being looked at by me and my friend and then after about 30 min a further update from engineer was made. I was expecting the flight to be cancelled but it was to announce that engineer had fixed problem and flight would board soon.Eventually took of an hour late but easily made connection and arrived in Manchester early along with a load holiday flights and mile long immigration queue.

Standard American breakfast is 55 baht at BJ,you can add other items from menu,I prefer freshly cooked stuff rather than buffet food left out in the open. Plenty of non residents eat there as it is good value and restaurant is at front so you do not need to go through hotel. However, see my other message re imminent construction work next door-breakfast could be noisy!

Just back from Pattaya, stayed at BJ 3rd to 15th June,I really like the hotel and location. The heavy duty machinery was being moved into place for digging the foundations so there will be a lot of noise and disruption I guess til the end of the year. I heard it was an 8 storey hotel/apartment block owned by A1 hotel across the road. The resulting building will impact more on BJ as regards blocking the view and the sun on swimming pool, will be interesting to see the finished product as I like the BJ and would hope to stay there again.

Just back, stayed a week at Sabai Inn,having stayed two and three weeks there on previous trips. Excellent off peak rates of 700 for standard room overlooking car park and noisy thai pub, or 850 for superior room on other side overlooking Welkom Inn pool. Rooms are fine, use of swimming pool across road in Sabai Lodge, would recommend walking to BJ Lodge on Soi 3 for breakfast.Loads of bars on Second Road and Soi 6 is short walk away, also baht buses stop right outside.

I'm flying from Manchester in 4 weeks with Qatar for £380, booked some time ago. Last year I was able to get that fare with Etihad right up to the week of departure but everything seems to be about £100 more this year.

Sabai Inn mini bar question
pauly77 replied to newbie34's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I have stayed at Sabai Inn on all my recent trips, back again in 4 weeks, never had any mini bar/phone problems, just buy my own stuff from 7-11, really wouldn't worry, I have always found the staff to be very good. -
At least when a place doesn't come up to expectations, there are plenty of choices in that price range. I guess when people check out early they don't care as there will be someone waiting for free room, as the place always seems to be full.

I personally found the Flipper House fine, rooms o.k. and very nice rooftop swimmimg pool. Older wing has been renovated so may be worth checking out. I had a look around Eastiny Inn, in room safes but I thought the furniture was pretty cheap looking and several rooms already had cracks in walls, despite not being open long-great location though and o.k. swimming pool, though not sure how much sun it would get.
